Im going to try this tomorrow and see how it fits me, instead of buying an MP3 player. Only downside is, the battery draining out but thats why you buy an extended battery.

Clever post. I recognize the aux cable and use a very similar one. Actually, that in itself may be a good tip to share. I'm using an aux cable that came with a set of PC speakers I no longer use.

You may find that battery life isn't so much of an issue because the screen is off while playing music.

One trick is to buy a car player with bluetooth(AD2P) support.

Then you can play your music wireless.. Only (big) downside is that for some reason the music playback lags, but it will proberly be fixed in some update.

I got HTC hero and a car player with AD2p support.

I bought a T-Mo Wing in 2007 (the G1 wasn’t out yet), was anxious to try stereo Bluetooth so I bought a Sony head unit with A2DP support. After pairing the devices I discovered to my disappointment that I needed to go through that somewhat painful process all over every time I shut the car off or even just walked out of range with the phone. The hands free and the stereo BT were two separate setups on WinMo, and while the hands free worked fine the A2DP was all but unusable, so I gave up and listened to CDs.

Last week I took the plunge and brought home a G2 then loaded up a few MP3s just for fun. (I also have 2 Sansas running Rockbox) The law here in Washington state is hands free only so I paired up my new phone with my old stereo. To my surprise both the phone and music icons immediately lit up on the Sony. I tried the Android music player and it works like a charm!

Bluetooth sounds way better than the line in cable to me, the front input on the Sony seems seriously attenuated… I guess to compensate for all the different levels that could be presented from a headphone jack. But the BT is crystal clear and just as loud as any other source. Pairing is completely persistent now as well, it doesn’t matter what I do or in what order I do it the two are ready to go every time I get in my car.

Sorry about the long first post. I’m just happy as a clam with my new phone. Now I'm off to find info about the best way to organize music for the Android player.

Can I just ask a question......

I want to use my Hero to play music in the car via the headphone jack, but I also connect a bluetooth headset to make calls.

So if I'm playing music and a call comes in, does the sound switch to the bluetooth headset?? Or does it still play via the radio???

Awesome question dude... I would think the wired connection would get priority over wireless (most likely both will be heard). Not 100% sure???
