Picked up a tip for other 'wet phone accidents'. Don't use rice AND DON'T PUT YOUR PHONE ON, the best way to sort a wet phone is alcohol gel (the stuff used in hosptial for your hands). 90% alcohol or more (you can buy that at a chemist or supermarket). Get a resealable bag. Put the alcohol gel in the resealable bag, drop your phone in-minus the battery/sim/memory card and shake it around a bit take-make sure the gel gets everywhere. Leave it a few minutes, bring it out and leave it sitting for a bit. And voila

**Yes... I know what your thinking, why wet an already wet phone... Well the alcohol gel evaporates at room temperature, it also more or less eats away the water in the phone.

As another tip for water damage, get some scotch tape and put it over each moisture indicator when you return your phone-remove it. This may or may not work, however I don't recommend anyone try it, its just a point of conversation!!

I put my iPhone in my buddy's glove compartment after we got stuck mudding and I dropped it in a puddle, but his heater's vents were broken and blew hot air into the glove compartment, essentially making it an oven. Worked like magic. As for the rice, I used it on countless phones, and it works quite well.
The biggest thing to remember is to take the battery out ASAP, because water itself cannot damage a phone, its the electricity sorting out across the water that damages things, and if its salt water corrosion too.

not true. water can damage the phone. it can damage chips, speakers, etc.

NEVER turn your phone on after a few minutes. that is very stupid advice. ALWAYS let it dry out for at LEAST a day, if not more. if there is ANY speck of moisture in there, and you try to turn it on, it will short out.
