Default Tearing my hair out trying to connect this new phone.

Hi,

I just brought a new phone but i cant for the life of me figure out how to connect it to the computer ! (Win7).

Firstly i know nothing about smart phones although iv been working with computers all my life.

Now i do not even know what this phone is (make/model) , i know it runs android 2.3.6 but thats about it. it has nothing saying what it actually is on the phone, in the phone, on the box or instructions.

It had no software with it.

When i connect it to usb it shows as MediaTek MT65xx MS USB Device.

I searched for the hardware id from the device manager and it seemed to be an HTC so i tried installing HTC sync manager & driver and it seemed to accept the driver, now it says "My HTC" under Android USB device and it says its working correctly but the sync manager just does not "see" the phone.

Iv had a mate who has had phones all his time look at it but he could not figure it.

I brought it from ebay :- (i cant post links) so pleas search eBay for 350674652870

Can anyone please please point me in the right direction, im at a loss

Many thx.
Jack

Before you give up, try hooking it up to a Win XP pc, they handle that stuff not better, but differently, worth a try.

Who knows who the manufacturer is - apparently a Chinese knock-off by someone the seller is ashamed to name. Hope you got it *very* cheap. Return it if possible and reduce your stress level. No chance HTC software will work with it.

Someone please point the OP to the off brands sticky please. I'm in a Chinese restaurant at the moment drinking baijiu and singing songs.

i think you are trying to treat it like a PocketPC or a BlackBerry and using sync software. with Android it's more simple. plug in, go to the phone, there should be a little USB icon up top. pull the notification bar down and click on 'turn on usb mass storage' and a drive letter will show on your computer. use this to transfer stuff

Looks like the A600 MT6515 generic phone made in China. I've searched around but cannot find any support website or USB drivers. None of the numerous websites that sell the phone show any support info. You might try a Google search and have better luck than I did.

The MT stands for Mediatek, the company that builds the chipset used in the phone. You might try contacting them for USB drive info. They have Windows software on their website. I'm just not sure which would be right for your phone. I'd start with the top one (newest and says it's USB).

Your mode info KDI-i360 probably refers to KDIMobile, a company that sells generic phones. I didn't see any support info on their page either. You might try contacting them as well.

Hi all,

Many thx for the support.

I went out and got some SD mem today as i thought i might have something to do with it (although it shouldn't )

I now get a "USB connected" in the top pull down menu when i connect and can now access the SD from my computer so i can at least transfer photos, vid etc etc but im sure it is still missing something , its the "USB debugging connected" thats throwing me but iv turned debugging off now.

I don't know if i am missing something or not but i suspect i could not backup or factory restore the phone without major problems.

As i say i know bugger all about phones and all this started cos i thought i had better do a full wipe of it before i start using it (its was boxed but not sealed). i started reading about factory resets of rooted phones and it just blew my mind with stories of people losing all/some/part of the functionality and the methods to used to fix all these problems.

So im happy atm but will wonder if it should be able to connect in some other way and also if it might possibly have malware installed or not.

O and btw the phone was up for 49 a week ago so no i didn't pay a lot for it

Something that MIGHT help ... if it has a removable battery ... remove the battery and it just might have the manufacturer's information on a label under it.
