How to play video on computer

I took a video using my phone and would like to move it over to my computer where I can watch it. I copied the file over no problem, but the computer doesn't seem to know what to do with it. It tries to play the file with windows media player, but can't - what can I try?

What file format did it save as?

I use VLC media player for watching videos on my PC and have yet to come across a file type it can't play.

VLC is free to download, just google "VLC"

Try installing a codec pack like Sharks Codec Pack.

Use VLC Player or Quicktime.
