Default How to watch a movie thats on my phone on tv

I'm trying to watch a movie that I've put on my phone on my tv and I'm having problems. Every time I connect it to the tv with an hdmi cable my phone locks up. What am i doing wrong?

What phone, what tv, what cable, what video, where did the video come from, what resolution, what codec, what bitrate, what video player....

Sorry, its an evo I downloaded the movie from demoniod and I can wary it on my computer or the phone but I wanna show it to a buddies on my rca lcd tv. I bought the hdmi cable at radio shack. I use rock player to watch it on my phone so I was gonna try and use that to show it on tv is there a certain player that I need to install and use?

Rock Player doesnt output to the hdmi port. Only the stock player will. You will need to re-encode the video to use h264 codec.

Does HTC EVO 4G has DLNA?

I have it on my SGS and it works fine with my Sony and Samsung TVs.

Not stock, although there are a few apps I have seen that do that.
