Default Track numbers and media players........

When I added a bunch of songs to my phone for listening in work, I noticed a huge chunk of them got lumped together in a folder "unknown artist/unknown album". The common factor was they all ended up with a track number before each song title.

I have always been a stickler for removing track numbers when working with my MP3s, so any idea what may be triggering this phenomenon?

I went back and verified some of the culprit tracks in iTunes and no where in any setting, was there a track number associated with the song name.

There might be a problem with your tags. Try getting some sort of ID3 Editor - not sure which ones are best for Windows (which I assume you're on), but Google is your friend here. Anyway, once you get an ID3 tag editor, go through and make sure your tracks are all tagged properly. It seems Android doesn't play nicely with ID3 v2.4 tags, so use an older standard. ID3 v1 has worked for me.

Retagging the music I put on my phone worked for me. Hopefully this helps you, too.

Ok cool thanks!

I'm a Mac user, but I am sure there is one out there.

Oh I see where the numbers are coming from. For each track the file name has the number, even though they do not show in iTunes that way...yay, here comes some mass editing.

Messed around with this more, used an OS X script to rename all tracks within iTunes to remove any track numbers, which didn't work.

I then took 2 albums, 1 that was ok and 1 that was not and compared everything on them. I discovered their ID3 tags were different versions, so I used iTunes to set the versions the same, still no good.

It's very strange because some of the stuff I ripped myself from CDs is good, while others is not. So I can't even write it off as how the MP3s were created. I wonder is there something internal that can not even be changed or seen, related to the original cds.

Still can't figure out this problem........but, I found a another media player to use and it recognizes all the folders and artists. It's called Antropia. It has features for radio stations as well, which I have not played with yet.

Anyone else find some alternatives for this problem? I am having the same issue I can play the music on my computer using either Itunes or Musicmatch player and the track info shows up fine on my computer. The same music some will show up unknown have messed around with some id3 tag editors but have not found one to change from 2. back down to 1.

I have finally found a way to get my mp3's to show on my moment. If using I tunes there is an option when you right click on the file to change the option is convert id tags and you can choose the different versions I changed mine to 1.0 and they all read on my phone.. I am using Tune Wiki. If you don't want to go through the trouble of changing the id tags. I also use Antropia music player it lets you see the actual files so if you set them up in sub folders of the artist and album you can play them also ..

hmm, I will look into this again, as I tried messing around with the ID tags and still had the same results.

I'm mentioning my own software here because I think it could help. Jaikoz tagger lets you pick exactly the combination of tags versions you want, and you can convert existing tags
i.e
ID3v1
ID3v22
ID3v23
ID3v24
ID3V1 and ID3v23 ecetera.
, (this can be done automatically or a song by song basis)
