as i spend time away from home an like to chat to my kids(cheaply)is there an app that i could use to do this like say chat to my computer by video call.

I use Qik video it is kind of like skype. It works from phone to phone on the atrix and is designed to use the front camera on the phone so quality is ok. Have not tried to see if it can connect to a skype account. But its free so its worth looking at just get it from the market.
Note: It must be installed on each phone and each phone has to have a Qik account but again its all free.

Also just found out there is Skype for andriods. Have not tried it yet.

Skype on Android is not so good...
It doesn't support video calls (audio only), and the app is quite crappy...


Edit: they made a recent update to support a limited range of devices with video calls.
