Angry Help with hdmi output

I recently went out and bought the micro hdmi cord to hook up to my tv. And much to my surprise it seems to only play youtube and videos taken on my phone. I also purchased "tv shows stream" with the desire to watch it on my tv via the hdmi out but it wont work. My question to you all is can this be done? Or do I need to go return this usless hdmi cord?

Well first, it would REALLY help if you told us what phone you have, so we can try and help you.

Second, many phones will only output a few things, like pictures, videos, and youtube. To output everything, your phone needs to have HDMI Mirroring, not just HDMI Output.

I have an evo 4g with 2.3.3 not rooted. I know about full hdmi, I just have some worries Bout bricking my phone if I root it. I had a palm pre before my current phone and had no problems using the developer mode options but that seemed way easier then the process for android. are there any apps that dont require root acess

With the evo, I believe the HDMI apps will work without root, however it wont be full 720p output. And BTW, you cannot root 2.3.3 on the evo yet anyway,.
