Default Audio Analysis with MediaPlayer

Is there any way to perform real-time audio analysis within the Android platform? I could always build the Android source code on a Linux live-disc, and from that just edit the mediaplayer source code, but I don't actually have a mac or linux (I know, sin, right?) to do heavy-duty stuff with. Does anyone know of another way to get access to the raw audio data that android uses in the media player so it can be passed through an fft or cqt for visualization purposes or something similar?
