Hi droiders,

As the subject suggests, I'm having trouble throwing LAME MP3s from my droids to my Sonos Bridge/Play3. Apologies if this is the wrong forum - but one has to start somewhere.

I have two droids (well two that are in use), an HTC One S and a Sony NWZ-F805. Both can obviously play MP3s. The irritation begins when I throw the music to my Sonos. If the MP3s have been downloaded there is no problem. If I have ripped a CD and created an MP3 using the LAME enconder (version 3.99.3 on 64-bit linux) the trouble begins... both droids still play the music without problem but when "throwing" the audio to the Sonos I get two distinct problems (one for each droid).

HTC One S: The track will not play on the Sonos, which complains that the track has not been encoded correctly... but...

Sony NWZ-F805: The track plays. Sounds great... until I try to play an album. The problem here is that a couple of the tracks will play and then the droid complains: 'Check the status of the player or the network'. Of course this only happens with albums ripped with LAME.

I'd go for Ogg Vorbis if Sony weren't whacked and their player won't read oggs.

I'm pretty stuck. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate it.

Are you using constant bitRate, abr, or vbr?

How are you serving them? Built in apps? iMediaShare? Other?

What sample rate are you using for LAME? - 44.1kHz(the standard CD rate) or something else like 48kHz? There are a few players can have difficulty with MP3s sampled at 48kHz. If they're VBR rather than CBR, could be a problem as well.

I'm using standard sample rate. I've tried constant bit rates of 128, 192, 320 and variable bitrate at 240kbps. Same symptoms on each.

I'm just using the apps that come with the devices.

I used to recommend iMediaShare back in the day, but I found as they added features, it seemed to do less. Not sure, but when I looked at my HTC last year, it looked to me like they were using an oem version of that. You might give that app a try.

I searched for other DLNA servers and this looked interesting, I haven't tried it yet.

I'm wondering if the built in apps aren't trying to transcode on the fly and that's what's hitting you.

My gut says that abr may be safest.
