Default Unlocking after rooting

Hello everyone,
I am a newbie to rooting and stuff. I actually dont know how things work in my case.
I have MyTouch 3g with Tmobile service. I have recently rooted mt3g successfully with 2.1 ROM which is working great.
Now I want to unlock the sim so I can use it with other carriers too. I spoke to the tmobile rep where he agreed to unlock and took IMEI number of my phone and said he will be mailing the unlock code and instructions.

My question is, as I have overwritten the original factory settings, will that unlock code works in my code.

Even if it works, will there be any conflicts with the already installed custom rom like malfunctioning applications or something else?

Thanks,
Krishna.
