Default Android's phones must diversify

Android cannot win a large amount of market share if the devices its on continue to have little diversity. There's no android camera phone. If there were a device that could be on the same level as the Pixon1 or Satio with regards to photos, that would be GREAT for android because it can snap up more people. Right now, those who are interested in taking good photos will never take an android phone because pretty much all android devices suck at taking photos. Android cab take over iPhone OS by creating lots of phones, each excelling at their own thing rather than trying to make the same QWERTY phone over and over again.

Some people are Interested in the Camera...Some are interested in a Physical keyboard....and so on. However you are clearly focussing on the Camera. Android handesets seems diverse to me.....

I take it you yourself are looking for an Android phone With a Good Camera , Well how does this look to you? : http://phandroid.com/2009/11/03/sony-ericsson-xperia-x10-officially-announced/

  • ** 8.1 megapixel camera
  • ** Up to 16x digital zoom
  • ** Auto focus
  • ** Intelligent face recognition features
  • ** Geo tagging
  • ** Image and video stabilizer
  • ** Photo and video light
  • ** Send to web (photo and video upload)
  • ** Smile detection
  • ** Touch focus
  • ** Video recording
  • ** Recent shot tray

Seems like a Nice Camera to me.... And it is an android Handset what could be better .... Maybe a physical flash but still....

Who the hell cares about face/smile detection? I have that already built in, its called MY BRAIN. I don't need a camera to tell me where peoples faces are. Anyway, the X10 is not going to take good shots. Just look at the lens on it. It's tiny, almost non existent. 8.1MP doesn't mean much with such bad everything else. 8.1MP is just a number. It does not mean much with regards to picture quality.

I would agree somewhat with the amount of megapixels , It's basically finer detail though {can zoom in fine} and makes the image Larger. But Do you not understand what the Face detection does? It can help to specifically Focus on the Face so it is clear , It's simply a benefit to have.....

But I would Hold Judgement on the Photo Quality without actually seeing any examples live. If your looking for the Perfect camera go buy a proper digital camera or an SLR until technology evolves and phones have better cameras .... For now It's more than suitable for me...I don't expect to take professional shots on my phone camera Just yet

If you actually look at the Satio compared to the Xperia(BOTH made by samsung, not exactly cannon or olympus, buddy), the lens is about the same size, and the Pixon isn't much bigger.

This thread isn't about market share, or diversity, it's about YOU whinning because you want an android with a really good camera. Well, why aren't you petitioning nikon, or sony, or a camera manufacturer? The Satio just got released and the Pixon is only available in russia. How on earth are they examples of phones that make or break samsung and sony's "market share"? Leaving a post on a forum that a camera company is likely to never ever read is like complaining to the janitor at Wrigley Field when the bears lose a game: useless.

Android is an OS, hardware is up the manufacturer. In fact, you could put android on the Satio or Pixon, (who knows, maybe they will!) so you're hardly making a fair or balanced argument.

Actually, no, those interested in taking good photos will buy a camera, not a cell phone. That's what I did. A phone that has the capabilities of my Canon PowerShot A590 would be too bulky, cumbersome, and expensive. That's why I invested in a real camera, because I want good pictures. Just like those interested in getting good copies are going to head to kinkos rather than using tracing paper.

I'm simply highlighting an issue (the lack of diversity in hardware) that may be slowing androids growth. It's just a topic. And perhaps I am petitioning nikon or sony, how would you know? And yes, I do want an android with a really good camera to be released so that more people buy android phones and hence accelerates the growth of the android platform.

I've heard this broken argument a million times. Someone who likes taking good photos would prefer a good camera phone to a phone that takes poor ones. You cannot argue with that.

if you are focus on a more capable camera on the phone, you tell the manufacture that, it's NOT Android issue. It's the hardware manufacture that releases such device.

On the topic of "hardware diversity", believe it or not there are lots of emerging devices that's running Android

Android Hub

Archos Internet Media Tablet

Japanese cellphone operator gets Android

just to name a few.

Well, I'm new here so it's not my place to rock the boat or anything, but my question to the OP is simply given all the models presently in the marketplace, and considering the different carriers they are available through, I'm not sure I see where there's any kind of lack of diversity.

rix I think you are basically correct. Some people want a phone that's also a camera and some people want a camera that's also a phone or a gps device that's also a phone.
I think in this case we are looking at the Asian markets. Everyone like to talk about iPhone and blackberry but symbian is the real one to beat here.

This is the age of multimedia & socialized web phones. Symbian was good for the traditional phone OS, but nowadays in this era everyone knows Symbian has failed. Look at the N900, Nokia playing catch up and drop the Sympbian and moved to the Maemo Linux Mobile platform.
