Apple Sues Samsung Over Galaxy Lineup’s Resemblance to iPhone
When I first compiled my review of the Samsung Galaxy S last summer, one of my minor gripes with the device was it’s overwhelming resemblance to the iPhone. The silhouette of the device, it’s singular “home” button foregoing Android’s typical four, and a user interface looking a bit too Apple-inspired made the device feel like [...]
The Galaxy Tab was mentioned too. Yea the Galaxy S has a button, but doesnt it also have a button on each side of that button? I thought the iPhone was 1 button only?
Whats funny is its supposed to be copying the look and feel. So much for ppl claiming Android isnt as smooth as iOS...lol At least Apple thinks it feels like iOS...
I just thought about something: the Omnia 1 and 2. Apple didnt have a problem with it back then. I'm thinking it didnt have Touchwiz. I guess the Galaxy S looks more like the iPhone than the Omnia did.

What part of Touchwiz BESIDES the app drawer copies iOS? That legitimately is a crappy copy.
Otherwise I don't think Apple should be able to sue for anything else. All these smartphones look the same anyway and the Galaxy S doesn't look like it's copying the iPhone to me.
Device(s): Nexus S (rooted), CM 7.1 with Caelum theme.

I'm certainly not surprised. Apple is one of the most litigious companies out there. For ****'s sake, this is the company that got into a legal tussle with the city of New York over their logo. How many companies do you know that threaten lawsuits to entire cities?
Anyway, way I understand it, Samsung had a good part in the development of the UI design for the iPhone. Samsung isn't stupid. They seen how well the iPhone sells and just chose to replicate or mimic its design. However, "look and feel" is the lawsuit that Apple lost in the 80's. It's probably the reason that Apple sues everyone now. There's really enough suitable differences in the appearance of the Galaxy S line that Samsung won't be in any real trouble.
What's more interesting is the fact that they included the Nexus S in the lawsuit. The Nexus S doesn't run Touchwiz and the physical design is way beyond close to the iPhone. Sounds like Apple is gearing up to join the rest of the lawsuit crowd against Google. Apple is already taking on HTC and several of the other companies in the OHA are fighting legal battles. I guess open software is just too much for these guys.
Device(s): HTC Evo 4G (retired), Samsung Galaxy S 2 (T-Mobile) Stock Rom, HP Touchpad (Dualboot WebOS and CM

The thing that I got out of the article is the suit is because samsung has a working android phone.
There is no patent of how similar a phone can be when using different hardware and software.
Aside from Apple’s “intellectual property,” what else is at stake in the infringement suit recently filed by the Cupertino company against Samsung? $5.7 billion worth of business between the companies, the reported amount Apple spent on buying components from the Korean manufacturer for use in their various products. We’re talking everything from processors and RAM to flash storage and displays. In fact, Apple is said to be Sammy’s second largest client, following behind Sony. It would seem apparent that the two companies depend greatly on each other’s business.
Samsung has come out saying the company has “no choice but [to] respond strongly.” Word is the makers of the Galaxy line of Android products, the very lineup of phones and tablets at the center of the lawsuit, is gearing up to file a countersuit alleging that Apple is infringing on several of Samsung’s patents. If you didn’t think this one would get messy, you better think again.
Something tells me Apple will have to find a new parts sourcer...
As much as it seems to be that way, in the end, the two companies will reach an *agreement*, and business partnership will continue as usual... It's all about the bottom-line!
But, I'd like to see Sammy put a hurting on Apple and dent it's arrogance!!
As much as I like[d] the iP4, I simply detest the fruit's control-freak ecosystem!!

1) The notification icons. Red circle over the mail/sms apps like iOS on the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S. The new mail alerts act, behave and look like iOS mail.
2) The dual pane email/address book app on the Tab.
3) Samsung skinned all the android apps into rounded square icons like iOS apps.
4) There were some builds of the Galaxy S that wiggled when you moved the app icons across the windows. It would snap and disappear exactly the same way you move apps on iOS. It also had a circular black "x" icon on the top right edge to signify deletion. Again, exactly like iOS.
When you pinned your app on your home screen, all the icons would stop wiggling and freeze. Again, it looked, behave and acted like iOS.
There are more. These were just the blatant obvious.
I think there is a general perception that anything that comes from "THE EAST!!" is a rip-off of a "western" design. Check out Chinese car makers ripping of European brands left right and centre.
Seems to me Apple are shit scared of Samsung, in particular the Galaxy S2, are are attempting a pre-emptive strike in the battle to regain some market share after the inevitable gains the S2 will bring Samsung.
What better way to than to make people think twice about buying something from "over there", even if Apple themselves outsource from them.
Tussle between two great manufacturers have arrived into courtyard. Apple has taken Samsung to court blaming it to forge out their line of handsets with Galaxy series. all this not happened just in a few days, as infact since a long time ago when Galaxy S came into market, stunning resemblance with Apple iPhone send sufficient wind into sky. even it has blamed Samsung in manufacturing of Galaxy Tab saying it is so much identical to their iPad. let's see what happens next, but as of now, the game is on....
We must all be missing something. Apple is a very big company with lots of money. There's no way they just up and said "Let's sue those guys, cuz!"
Their very, very expensive, very, very smart legal team HAD to have said "We can win this, and it will be good for us." So... we must be missing something.
It's nothing to do with $$ it's to do with thinking CrApple is the only good/userfriendly/revolutionary device and no one can touch it. Problem is... it isn't any of those.
