Ever since Apple started using Intel chips, thus allowing you to dual-boot Mac and Windows, my thoughts have been: why NOT buy a mac? Best of both worlds.
I have a MAC and a first generation itouch. [at the time I had a treo 750] I like those apple products, but I've never liked the iphone as its capabilities couldn't do what I want/needed on a mobile device.
I then went to blackberry (I know..I know) after the treo brand was retired and the Pre became a Sprint exclusive as I was on AT&T.
Today, I'm an android lover and I kick myself for not adapting earlier.
I guess it boils down to what product works for you needs.
I only use Windows at work because I'm forced to. I use a Mac at home, but for my next computer I will probably go with Linux - it does everything I need without the Windows and Mac 'premiums'.
Not a Mac user. I am a Windows user. I wanted to try OS X, but also wanted my own specific hardware setup.
I did try OS X in a VM (pearPC) It was cool. But since I used Linux before (SUSE, uBuntu, Xandros and some others I forgot about) for some reason I wasnt so excited about using OS X. IMO if you never used OS X before give Linux a spin. It will make the transition from Windows easier.
For my needs I figured why not just use Linux.

I hate all this fanboi fighting nonsense, some of the anger that is generated over something that is essentially a pretty appliance is ridiculous.
I am open to all new things so, despite being a Windows user (and Windows support analyst) for years, I love my Mac. Yes, it's pretty, yes, it's expensive but so's an Aston Martin and I want one of those too. My Macbook is 6 years old and runs as quickly and more reliably than my 1 year old work Windows laptop (many factors I know).
I love Android, the openness, the power, the customisation and love my HTC Desire. I'd like to have an iPhone too, for comparison and just to have different things.
I've been waiting for the tablet device to come to fruition for over a decade now and am excited by the iPad, the HP WebOS device and the Android tablets.
Keep our minds open, surely that's not hard?

I think the fanboyism comes from someone getting burned by a company, moving to another and not getting burned.
I grew up during the BSOD windows 2000 era, so my primary experience with Windows/Microsoft was... that they suck. Big, greedy corporation that puts out overpriced subquality software. I moved to Apple and got everything I need, so Apple has earned my loyalty, and Microsoft is stuck in my mind as being terrible.
Apple, in my opinion, isn't as pristine and wonderful of a company (same goes for their devices) as they once were... I think something's going to take the place of Apple as the "hip" company that "works better and is more honest," and I think it's going to be Android.
I know first impressions aren't fair, but that's life and that's the root of the problem.
If the first time you go to a restaurant, the service is terrible, the staff is rude, the food is cold and your glass is dirty... are you going back? Nope. You're going to tell everyone how much they suck, even if your experience was a once-in-a-lifetime oversight by the restaurant.

That's the thing, though. Very often these fanboys haven't even tried the product they spew venom about. It's such an irrelevant thing to get angry about.
