According to a statement from T-Mobile, the RC33 update is on the way to the G1 soon. But this is not the Cupcake that everyone has been waiting for. Looks like just a few little bugfixes and a few new features:
“To ensure a great experience with the T-Mobile G1 with Google, customers with these devices will receive an Over the Air (OTA) update to their devices between February 5 and February 15. This OTA will include new system enhancements such as the ability to save pictures or files to file by long-pressing an item, check for system updates, and use the Google Voice Search feature. The OTA will also fix a number of known issues. New G1 activations will receive the OTA up to three days after service has been activated.”
Between February 5th and February 15th, T-Mobile will be releasing OTA Update 1.1 or RC33 for T-Mobile G1 owners. This news is official, coming from an Administrator at T-Mobile’s customer forums. Unfortunately, they have also officially said that this update is NOT cupcake and that it will merely include “bug fixes and feature enhancements”.If you’re [...]

It would be a cool thing for Rob/Phandriod to track....app count in the Market over time.

Digg, Engadget esque?
Vote comments up or down?
I hope they also realize the "most popular flaw" in the market too. Which is that I downloaded Pac-man but then deleted it. Do they track that?
Clearly if they know what apps I have downloaded or they used a profiling tool like aTrackDog they could tell us what people actually have on their phones.
I would rather trust aTrackDog's popularity index than the market's at this time.

It looks like they just added the ability to mark it as spam. I'm not sure how exactly that will be handled by them. Let's hope that marking a comment as spam is the same as voting it down so that the comments not marked as spam can shine through.

Actually... I've been freaking out a bit about my phone today because I'm using Netmeter and I can see my phone sending and receiving data and a bit of CPU being used... even after a reboot. I didn't think I was using any new applications or anything and I was wondering what was going on. I've gotten about 1Mb of data in the past couple hours without any applications running. I came here to do research and it sounds like R33 is being rolled out. Maybe that's that what's going on and my phone is downloading it in the background? I hope so.

It can be downloaded from XDA developers already. Non rooted version but apparently they are waiting for someone to mod it so that it will also work for people who want to retain root access.

Tmobile provides a random distribution in small batches to people across the country. They spread it out to prevent one area from getting it all at once.
Guys, I think it's sincerely honestly randomly sent to individuals, not regions. At least one person has gotten it in Chicago, and I still don't have it. Just like with all the other updates, we won't be able to find a pattern by people posting their time and location. It's interesting, but isn't going to give you a clue.
