Default Do I really want Flash on my phone?

I've had my Motorola Droid a few weeks now and have been pleasantly surprised to find that browsing the Web is actually enjoyable. This is mainly because of a large high resolution screen and browsers like Dolphin or xScope and, perhaps, lack of flash.

I'm typing this on my notebook and, in other tabs, sites are blinking, flashing, playing unwanted video and audio clips and waiting for me to inadverently draw the cursor over a target so they can pop-up some irritating nonsense. Do I really want all this crap on my phones already limited workspace?

Adobe says Flash will only be available for the Droid and Nexus, which leads me to suspect it's going to be a memory and processor hog.

While there are sites I can't access for lack of flash, more and more sites offer content specifically formatted for mobile and many sites browse very nicely. If the flash-laden sites want me to visit, they can give me a mobile friendly option or I can find a competitor who will.

I know I'll try it, but it will take some convincing.

Dunno, but right now on the Desire ROM with Flash lite, there's an option in the browser to disable Flash. So in theory, you could enable it when you want to play games or whatever, then disable it when you want an ad-free browsing experience.

Great question. I have been a puzzled by the amount of people posting on this forum that Flash was one of their top requests for Android. I play one or two Flash based games on my desktop, but don't think I would see enough performance on my handheld to make it fun.

If Apple sticks to their guns and refuses to adopt flash on their iPhone & iPads, and only cutting-edge Android phones adopting Flash, then flash may become extinct, and replaced with a more open standard like HTML5, which supposedly is better anyway, it runs more efficiently and is not proprietary to one company (Adobe).

HTML5 cannot totally replace the functionality of Flash though...although it can replace a lot of it. I could really care less about Flash on my phone, seems pointless to me.

Gimme a break. Apple not adopting it won't change anything. HTML5 will become the standard, but not for another 5-6 years.
