You're not the first to try definitely. If an app that allows you to unzip files on the cell phone exist then problem solved! Till then good luck with the laptop! I hate those (down)times[/QUOTE]

Messed up the quote again. But the other icon pack i downloaded was a zip file. I just used astro and moved the folder into the sd card and they all showed up in my gallery.

You could download adobe fireworks or photoshop and remove the bottom text
yourself but at the moment there's no way to noticeably enlarge the text because launcher pro resizes all icons to a pre-set size.

i cant imagine while the same wouldn't work for this pack then...are you unzipping the files to the "pictures" folder or "dcim"?

Can you tell us what font you are using so we can make our own matching icons for odd apps?
And one thing I cannot figure out is how to use these text icons on the screen instead of the dock at he bottom.

The font is Calibri.

I never intended for the icons to be used on the actual screen so, depending on what you want the icons for or where, the method varies

Ok, thanks. I thought the picture in post 41 was something we could also do with your setup here.

Update 3: New Icons added

These theme looks great, would you consider porting to ADW?

I did the same thing what you are thinking. Dreamlyfe is awesome. I got his icons and paid donations also. I replaced all my home screen icons with his text icons.

You will need Desktop Visualizer app. It has options to select icon and application to lauch for that icon and you can remove or keep the labels below the text icon also. I am in process of uploading my screen shots here. Since I don't have root access I am finding other way of porting my screen shots here.

I would definitely have to second this. All of the ADW themes I find are bland, and I would donate heavily for a port lol

Edit: Actually... I was just looking at how to create themes for ADW and it is surprisingly simple. Dreamlyfe, may I have your permission for attempting to port this myself?

Hey guys, sorry for the hiatus...college. As far as ADW goes, I was gonna go ahead and try to start porting yesterday but the android market was down. That said I CAN do it, or loft if he choses to do so, I just ask that you continue donating
Between classes and being a boyfriend my schedule can get kind of thick so I hope you can understand why I ask. Be back soon with the ported files! Thanks again!

P.S The Dreamlyfe dock + icons officially hit 3000 downloads over the weekend!!

Edit: See next post

As far as i know they SHOULD work. Download the .zip file, and drag and drop the folder inside of it either to the "PICTURES" or "DCIM" folder on you SD card. Then unmount your phone, long press any icon on the launcher pro dock and navigate to the icon of your choosing. Is there anything I'm missing

ON ANOTHER NOTE

Things aren't going as planned for me so I wont be able to finish the ADW port BUT if anyone else wants to go for it you have my permission and all that whatnot and I'll be available (either post here or PM me) to make whatever graphic/size changes that are needed to make it work!@

Edit: nevermind, found them in the OTHER icons folder. Great work on all of this!

Excellent excellent icon pack
Very clean, I like it! I wish I could have such a clean and simple layout, but I'm constantly switching features on and off, calling 40+ times per day, checking news, etc.

Can you also post your wall?

Love your icon pack.
Donated a small amount. First time i donated at all! =)
Keep it up!
Like what the previous replies said, please find a way to enlarge the icon so that it would be easier to read and so that we could use it on the homescreen as well.
Meanwhile, could you do a couple more icons like

Dropbox
Goggle translate
Something for MSN

Thank You!

I haven't been able to figure a way to index the files better on the phone. When I originally made it I (wrongly) assumed that the phone would display the folder's in a hierarchy/collapsible way. My advice, and what I do personally, would be to create ONE folder on you sd card in the 'pictures' folder and drop the specific icons you want there. That way only that folder will show in your gallery. You could then keep the rest of the files either on your desktop or somewhere on your sd card where they won't be recognized and transfer them on the fly using Astro File Manager.

thanks for responding so quickly. i'm loving these so far. i try to keep things as minimal and organized as possible. don't like much on my screens so these work out great for a clean look. sorry for the follow up question but do you happen to know which folder i could move these to so they won't be recognized in the photo gallery? I'm not overly good at these type of things. All i originally did was drag and drop the folder you created from my desktop to my sd card. Was i supposed to drop it in a specific folder on my sd card? I guess I could always just delete the ones that I don't need. Thanks again.

Hey, I love these icons. Unfortunately, Photoshop's waaay too expensive for me. I use GIMP for my photo editing. The problem is, GIMP doesn't recognize the text layers in .psd files. It makes them image layers. Would you possibly be able to save a template as a .xcf file so I can use GIMP to modify the text?

Make folders on the memory card. I made one called Used and one called Icons. All the ones I am using I put in the Used folder and all the extra ones, in case I want to use them, I leave in the Icons folder.

PNG files cannot keep layers so you are screwed once they are saved as a PNG. Dreamlyfe would have to provide you with a specific file type that GIMP uses and also keeps layers.

Um...that's exactly what I asked for. He includes a .PSD file in the pack, which is a template file for Photoshop. I asked him for a .XCF which is the GIMP equivalent...

I'm pretty sure you can't save as XCF with Photoshop. You'd have to do it from scratch in GIMP.

I realize that, but as he created it originally, I am hoping he would be kind enough to also create a XCF version.

Try this one.. I saved it in "maximize compatibility" mode.

I appreciate the attempt, but it still only sees each layer as an image layer. The only way to modify would be for me to remove the text and manually re-place it with the proper font and size.

Sorry, I was hoping that would work. Out of curiosity, which version of GIMP are you using?

The lastest version, 2.6. All the sites I've been to say GIMP often has trouble with text layers in psd files.

That's a shame, GIMP is such a handy program if you don't have Photoshop. I haven't installed it on my computer since the last time I reinstalled Windows.

I'm thinking the easiest way to do it may be to add a transparent layer above the text layer, then line up the text on the layer below so it matches what's already out there. Then just delete the old text layers. I can install GIMP and give it a try if you want.

Currently sitting at home killing time waiting for a dr. appointment, so it's not a problem.

Actually, I think i got it. The thumbnails on my computer show a shadowy effect to the words, while the one I made does not, but when they're on the phone, I don't see them, so I'm guessing those don't really matter.

Cool.. yeah, there's a bit of a drop shadow (64% opacity, 135°, distance 7px, size 4px) if you want to add it in. It does make a bit of a difference.

I actually don't notice a difference after adding the new ones alongside the old ones, so I don't think I'll bother.

It's easier that way.

Glad you got it working!

Here's the xcf template I made for those who may be using GIMP.

Sorry I got around to this a little late. Thanks Duffin for uploading the temp & Kaessa for support. Couple small notes, I didn't use photoshop to make the images I actually use Adobe Fireworks, I'm sure there's free versions (or versions you can get for free) of macromedia fireworks 7 floating around online that would open the layered png file identically to how I saved it

Heh, if I'm gonna get a "free" version, I might as well get a "free" version of Photoshop. Luckily the xcf file works for me ^_^ Thanks for introducing these icons to us. It gives me ideas for similar styles.

I wanted to like these icons a lot. But after a week's use, i just can't get past the fact that they're so small on my Captivate. It doesn't feel right having to strain for visual confirmation when pressing one of them.

I tried the TallMin icons (http://androidforums.com/android-themes/140958-icons-tallmin-updated-7-8-2010-a.html) and while the size is perfect, the coloring throws it off.

Is there anything you could do for those of us that wish these icons were bigger?

I love these icons and am using them but I was wondering if it would be possible to have some made without subtext. For example, I want one that just says 'facebook' not 'social' with facebook as the subtext, or just 'contacts' with no subtext.

I saw that the zip comes with a template, what program can be used to alter the template?

Also, they turn out to be pretty small on my HTC Hero

Use Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to edit the template.

Hey, I understand about the whole size issue. When I made these originally I made them a little larger and specifically for the EVO (kinda wish this thread wasn't moved into general themes but, o well). I can look at nice condensed fonts and whatnot but at this point (back in college) re-doing 200 icons in 2 new styles isn't a realistic for me. ESPECIALLY for free.

Ill consider it over the next few days, but I wont guarantee I'll do it

I adore this theme! But even with the instructions, can't seem to get anything to work. Keep in mind, I'm new to Android, being an owner of just 5 days.

1. Running a Droid X. Does it need to be rooted? Mine is not.
2. Have LauncherPro Plus and can not for the life of figure out how to get to preferences
3. Tranfered the ICONS and DOCK folders to root of SD card, and nothing shows when I use the LP change icon option.
4. Where and the heck is the 'menu' option on my droid? I can't find it anywhere.

Help!!!

Weird. Sounds like you've got it all right. For starts I'd wipe the old icons and dock then re-"put" them on your phone and reinstall/upgrade launcher pro. And also, just be absolutely sure you're clicking Custom from the dock background list and it's not defaulting to None

Hiya!
Ok, you dont need root to use these icons and you allready have LauncherPro Plus which is perfect. When you press the Home button on your droid, if it asks which program to set as default, select launcher pro. Once you're sure you're running launcher pro and not the stock launcher press 'menu' on you phone and then 'prefrences', this is the Launcherpro menu here.

**The icons and dock should show up if you drop them UNZIPPED into the root of the SD card, but to be extra sure, you could create a folder named "PICTURES" and drop them in there. P.s Your phone has to be unmounted for them to show up also

To use the dock press Menu > Prefrences > Appearance Settings > Dock Background > Custom > and Navigate to the dock of your choosing (The first is normal, second is more transparent, third is VERY transparent)
