Thanks for the awesome tutorials! I know very little about graphic design, but I was still able to make a pretty cool homescreen:

I have a few questions: In Launcher Pro, what dimensions do you make the bottom five icons (if you have five) to make them line up and seem as if they are one image (like in you original post)? Or is this not possible? Also, how do you make the lock screen wallpaper different than that of your regular wallpaper (I have a rooted HTC Incredible with CM7). Thank you!

I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning so bear with me as I believe you are looking for the following information....to the best of my knowledge and the sizes that I use for mine, dock icons are 72x72 and the dock itself is 480X84.

PS - I like how you did up your screen layout...Paulmz is a good teacher indeed, he was the one that started me customizing my phone with his tutorials.

Everyone else is right. I used a 480x84 png as a background image for the dock (you can change the dock background in LauncherPro's settings). If you make your dock icons part of the background image, you can set tranparent png's as the actual functional icon after.

Also correct that I, as well as most other people, use WidgetLocker as a lockscreen replacement. It works great and is easy to customize (like setting a separate wallpaper for the lockscreen).

Thanks guys! For the lockscreen, is there a way to just change the wallpaper without using a separate app? I like my current lockscreen--I can draw gestures that quick-launch certain apps.

Excellent work!!! Between you and Paulmz my phone's screen seems incomplete. I hope to have half of the talent the two of you have to jazz up my phone. And I think the two of you should team up and work on some homescreens together. I can only imagine what the outcome of that would be.

How do I get the dock set up?

Also, how do I get rid of the arrow in upper right and center everything?

Is that Launcher 7? I don't know if it is possible to have dock with Launcher 7 or to make that arrow disappear. That is anyway supposed to look like a Windows Phone.

You can always make your own icons and use them as you like with LauncherPro.

also paulmz, big thanks for this awesome thread. I've been running through images to make my own icons, which I will post once I'm done. But, can I request the stock image for your pandora icon? I'm looking to make a 351x136 3x1 icon. Been looking for that image everywhere, can't find it.

There are a couple of ways that you can do this.

The first option is to reskin the widgets the same way that I did to get the blue tiles.
I described how to do this here: Reskin Widgets Using APK Manager

The second option is to use the updated version of the app: SMS Unread Count The new version of the app allow you to set you own icons, but the one problem is that it downsizes the image so you can't get a full-sized icon to match the blocks of the other widgets.

Hope this helps.

Wanted to share my setup with everyone, big thanks to paulmz for the guide. Let me know if you want me to post any icons. From 1 to 5, 3 is home screen. Dock text is smaller than I'd like, text is on the image itself with transparent icons.

I have tried to use some images and widgets of this thread with my SE X10 Mini Pro (240 x 320), but I'm having problems with the resolution. Which resolution should I use?? I have attached a capture of my desktop.

Please follow the instructions in this post: Desktop Visualizer Image Test.

Then repost a screenshot and I'll figure out the dimensions.

I didn't have problems with the yellow png, but I wasn't able to make a 1x1 widget with red png. I selected the png but Desktop Visualizer didn't accept it. My homescreen has 4 colunms and 5 arrows.

I hope you can figure out the dimensions anyway.

Okay, I figured out the image widths, but the heights are a bit unclear. Try using this vertical bar instead (I am assuming that the 800-pixel high bar in the other test is too tall for the vertical widgets to have clear edges):

I resized the test image to better fit your resolution. Hopefully it gets us a clearer shot of the edge of the widgets.

Post another screenshot and I'll go from there.

Thanks.

Do you have the image quality setting for Desktop Visualizer maxed out? All of the vertical lines still have blurry edges. There is a +/- 4-pixel differences between them. I know on a device with such a low resolution that increasing the image quality for the widgets will probably slow things down- but you may need to do that just for this test. Otherwise, I can't get definite dimensions on the height of the images.

Default Android7 Layout Using ADW Launcher - Without Dock or Notification Bar

Well, I finally decided that I find a dock to be completely useless. So I revised my Android7 theme using ADW Launcher after reading in other posts that you can turn off the dock completely. ADW is also useful (as other launchers may also be) that you can set up- and down-swipe gestures for specific actions. For instance: without a notification bar I have the down-swipe to drop the notification window. I then have the up-swipe to open the app drawer (no icon or link required!). I'm kinda digging that.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Needless to say, the lockscreen is WidgetLocker. The widgets on the lockscreen are explained in this post: Post Your Lockscreen Screenshots.

The clock/weather/battery widget on the main homescreen is Make Your Clock Pro.
The folder popups on the last three screenshots are using Folder Organizer.

Here are the sizes for Desktop Visualizer widgets using ADW Launcher with the following settings:

1. 4-columns by 6-rows.
2. Notification bar turned off.
3. Dock turned off.
4. For devices with a 480x800 resolution.

Heights (rows- pixels):
1- 123, 2- 256, 3- 389, 4- 522, 5- 655, 6-788

Widths (columns- pixels):
1- 110, 2-230, 3- 350, 4- 470

And 2) I've completely uninstalled DV (and LP) and my phone connects fine every time now. (I've used LP before and it wasn't a problem). I think the phone was unable to release the SD card and hand it over to the PC properly, so it would lock up and reboot the phone every time.

I could have a faulty SD card ... so I'm just wondering if there's an alternative that might work better. DV couldn't link the pics from a local folder because it uses either the Gallery or the stock File Mgr, and both of those access the SD card only.
I also have all of my Widget Images on my phone memory, and not the SD Card. Gallery finds them fine when you go to "All Images". I know that none of the other Android phones have the mass amount of onboard memory like the Incredible, though.

Otherwise, I can't get definite dimensions on the height of the images.

Desktop Visualizer Update v. 1.1.1 Image Quality Setting
I can't change the quality setting, this option is disabled in my phone. I you can, give me some approximate dimensions and I will try with them.

Yeah, it makes sense that the image quality setting is disabled for your device. I assume it only works for high-resolution screens.

Here is what I have so far:

Widths: 1=56, 2=116, 3=176, 4=236
Heights: 1=50, 2=100, 3=150, 4=200, 5=250

The height dimensions don't make sense. The widths are perfect- leaving a 4-pixel space between images. The heights leave between 0- and 2-pixels of space.

Make sure that you have the Auto-Fit Items option selected in the LauncherPro settings as well.

Let me know how it works.

It seems that I have problems with the width and no with the height. It is strange, I don't understand it :P

That would be correct. If the heights are incorrect, Desktop Visualizer shrinks the image to compensate, which would make for different sized spaces between the widgets.

Okay, after looking at your last screenshot, try this out:

1x1: 55 x 47
1x2: 55 x 99
1x3: 55 x 151
1x4: 55 x 203
2x1: 115 x 47
2x2: 115 x 99
3x1: 175 x 47
3x3: 175 x 151
4x1: 235 x 47
4x4: 235 x 203

Hey guys,

I'm still about and liking all the new themes / icons.

Got new phone now Optimus 2x - setup is same as Desire so thankfully don't have to change icons yay!

Will work on more when new pc arrives!

It is not perfect, but good enough for me. Although if you give new dimensions I will try them. Thanks!!

I'm having problems to edit the widgets. Using the APK Manager, I can unpack the APK and edit the photo, then I repack the widgets but it doesn't work. I can't install it.

Somebody coult tell me the correct proccess?? I'm doing:
- 1, extract APK
- Edition of images (folders "drawable-hdpi" and "drawable-mdpi")
- 3, zip APK
- 1, system APK or 2, regular APK

I attached my modified APK.

Sad times.

My Photoshop won't work on my new PC (W7 6Bbit) so at present won't be doing anymore icons.

Working on solution though.

First: Make sure you're saving the images with the same exact file name as the original.

Second: When you ZIP the APK, select option 2 for "regular".

Third: Don't forget to hit option 4 after zipping it. That will "sign" the APK.

Hope this helps!

Are you sure it won't work? I have my Adobe Creative Suite 4 loaded on a Windows XP Media Center 32-bit and a Windows 7 64-bit. Photoshop is a bit touchy but it should come with both a 32-bit and 64-bit version. On my system, there are actually two different Photoshop application icons: one for 32-bit and one for 64-bit.

Also, you can run most applications as 32-bit in 64-bit by running it in "XP mode" (right-click the app, open "properties", then "compatibility" and check the box for "XP").

Hope this helps!

Yes, your device or resolution does matter for making icons for Desktop Visualizer.

I don't have widget image sizes for a 10-column/9-row setup. Please provide dimensions for the icons required.
If you do not know the dimensions, please run through the test listed here:

Desktop Visualizer Image Size Test

My problem was that I didn't sign the APK, now it works... but I have another problem: the images for the APK's are 55x47 but when I add a widget it looks smaller. Should I make bigger images for the APK's?
