This looks good. About the icon spacing: the heights of your icons looks correct, but the widths don't make sense. The only two things I can think of that would be causing this are:
1. Make sure you're using the correct image dimensions (your phone looks like a resolution of 480x800, so the image dimensions for the Incredible should work).
2. Make sure you have the "Auto-Fit Items" option checked in LauncherPro's "Homescreen Settings".
Thanks for the plug! Look for other skins I've created for Beautiful Widgets.
Using the Incredible's dimensions worked perfect, thanks!
Okay... calm down. The difference between your expected image quality and the actual image quality of your 320x480 resolution device is not the end of the world. If you read my last post to you, hopefully that fixed your issue. If not, here it is in greater detail:
The left image is the old way Desktop Visualizer used to degrade images.
The right image is using Desktop Visualizer's new "Image Quality" setting.
Here's how to set it:
Please note: on older phones with lower resolutions, processor speed, and RAM- this may slow down your phone to use these settings.
The whole reason why Desktop Visualizer would "lower" the resolution of the image was to compensate for performance. Running that many widgets all at high resolution can really bog down the limited processor capability of a device like the Hero, Eris, etc.
Hope this helps.

I'm not sure what you mean by "smooth scrolling", but keep in mind this is just an aesthetic arrangement of icons that is still locked into the standard behaviors of the operating system. This "theme" was created to only mimic the look of the WP7 phones... the functionality is a completely different story.
So, in answer to your question: no, there is no "smooth scrolling" possible (at least as far as I am capable of producing). Also, for now, there are no "living tiles" widgets, either (but I'm looking into figuring out ways to mimic this... or write widget apps from scratch... I'm not that good at code, though).
Thanks for the response.
Just to try and clarify what I mean. In an Android phone homescreens are divided in a grid-like fashion, a single row of 3 or more 'screens'. To view more icons one most scroll to the next 'screen' or cell in the grid. Whereas on a Windows Phone 7 the home screen is a continuous list that moves freely, rather than in pre-divided blocks (more like the movement of Android's app drawer).

I kind of thought that was the way that it worked. From what I have seen in demonstration videos, though, it didn't look continuous-- as in looping. It just looked like the screens were scrolling vertically instead of horizontally-- not stopping per "homescreen" but still stopping at the "beginning" or "end".
Honestly, I couldn't imagine how confusing a mobile device interface would be if you:
1. Couldn't divide your icons, widgets, etc. onto separate homescreens.
2. Couldn't stop your homescreen on a specific icon set.
3. Couldn't quickly get to a specific set of icons without scrolling all the way through.
Really, it's just a different way of laying out the same things. But, as far as I know, there is no way of having Android vertically scroll the homescreens without some major coding. It's probably possible, but it may also make other icons, widgets, etc. unusable or impractical.
finally done. thinking i might make the background solid so that the preview screen looks better. the home screens will look the same anyway since the widgets cover up the black.
So, I work retail and when I see someone with an Evo I usually say something to them about them having an Evo too. I have shown quite a few people my theme and everyone I show thinks its soooo cool! I have directed a few people to this site to get all the info for the theme. Does anyone else do the same?

Thanks! And yeah, I've been meaning to show some buddies of mine with Androids this thread (or this forum in general). I've seen some really cool themes (i.e., the PolaDroid) that some people would really like!

So I went into the Verizon store the other day to see if they could help with a problem I was having (my phone wouldn't send or received MMS) and they actually passed my phone around to look at it.
It's nice to be different.
I actually don't know very many people with Android phones... most of them have regular phones or iPhones... and they're all jealous.

So are there any 7 themes that have the solid colored background blocks like in the commercials? I think the picture backgrounds are a bit too busy for my particular taste.

1st off I want to thank Paulmz for this wonderful thread! I've been tinkering around with DV for a few days and was getting really irritated with resizing the pictures. But the original post's sizes worked flawlessly with my Epic. I did google searches for all of my images and used GIMP to resize them and add the font. Let me know what you guys think! And thanks again Paulmz!
Ok. Here is what I came up with. I don't know why my images are so small. Hmm. (edit: FIXED!)
Thanks to paulmz for providing me with some quality entertainment over these last couple of days.
The top widget on each page is the "title" of the page and a link to an "app catagory" folder that contains all of the apps pertaining to that catagory. The rest of the links on the page are my "favorites". I hope you like.

JaeWeb:
Well, we could always easily make images for the Desktop Visualizer widgets of similar solid-colored background blocks... but they wouldn't be "living tiles" like they are on the Windows phone. The most you can have the Desktop Visualizer widgets do is link to other apps, shortcuts, etc. But, so far, you cannot have a Desktop Visualizer widget show email or sms counts or anything like that. This is the one thing that the Windows phone has over Android.
But, all it would take is some widget apps with full-sized solid-colored (changeable) backgrounds that could show email and sms counts or whatever. I'm surprised no one has written these widgets yet.
I'm a graphics guy... not a code guy. I have been looking for widgets like this that allow skinning so that I could easily make "living tile" widgets just like the WP7 to no avail.

This thread helped me a lot!!! Here's my Domo theme. I wanted mine a little different from everybody else's =) I copied the Gallery style that was posted earlier, but replaced it with a collage of Domo pictures.

I dig Domo. I first saw him in the Japan section at Epcot's World Showcase in Disney World. I just thought it was a cool looking character.
Good work! I definitely think you should post those icons.
Thanks for sharing!
P.S.: I just made this Domo clock skin for the Beautiful Widgets home... when inspiration hits:
Some new creations. Some of the images I made to supplement those posted with the original post. Very clean look, PaulMZ. If anyone wants them, have at it. I wanted certain links to be specific proportions that aren't in the pack up top.
And to whoever posted the first big collection up there, if you want to zip these up with those, feel free.
The aspect ratio's standard for a 800x480 android screen.

Reason: *realized that two images were in the wrong aspect ratio, they're all also for a standard 800x480 android screen.

what's the weather widget you use here? I use the Weather & Toggle Widget, but I cannot find any simple clean skins to apply.

Also saw a dock background like this somewhere near the beginning of this thread, and couldn't find the file, so i recreated it.
Here's the hi-res image for those of you who want to use it. Doesn't look that great on a light colored background, but on the dark it looks excellent. I will edit this post with a droid screenshot later. The background is to be used with a transparent image for the icon. you can cover the circle if you'd like... :-(

Reason: adding screenshot
I'd like to post some screen shots (though nothing really new to see given all of the excellent shots thus far) but I am not rooted. it appears that one needs to be rooted to do screen shots (based on forum search). Any thoughts?

II Kings:
I have this link from BlondeeLox on the first post of this thread:
It doesn't require rooting, but it does require the Android SDK. It took me a bit to get it set up, but once it's working it functions flawlessly and easily.
Let me know if you need any help with this.
Sidebar: All of the customization I have done to my phone is all on a stock, non-rooted HTC Incredible. So far, I find absolutely no reason to root an Android phone. These devices are touchy enough without changing ROMs, etc. I'm a big fan of taking things apart to see how they work... my phone is the exception.
Hi paulmz
Can I request the pictures you used for the wordpress icon(the blog picture), also the talk icon(the yellow phone) please. I'd like to use them for other apps, would like to put different word on the bottom of the pictures.
Thank you for this wonderful thread =)

I actually did a little research and came to that conclusion last night after posting this. I made myself 2x1 mspot widget (230x125), and the pic was wide enough but wasn't near tall enough. If I can figure out how to take a screenshot (no root) then I will make a test page with a couple of the same widgets a little later.
EDIT: Ok I realized what I wasn't doing right. You have to use Launcher Pro with 5 rows (I was using ADW.Launcher with 5 rows). I really liked my theme on ADW but oh well. Thanks for this thread I look forward to creating/borrowing widgets.

Ok another update. I redid everything I had done before in launcher pro this time but the spacing on top and bottom is off. I've tried to do the nonroot screenshot method but I'm having issues with the drivers.
Still got one more home screen to work on, but I couldn't find any good picture to use. So, here what I have so far, some of icons are from paulmz of course. I loving it! Almost feel like I have a NEW phone! =D Thanks again paulmz!
By the way... anyone have good picture to use for Engadget and CNET ?
I have had several requests from people looking to customize my original icons asking for the icon images without the labels. Here's what I have available:
All icons are pre-cropped and pre-sized for specific Desktop Visualizer widgets. Just follow the directions here to add your own labels: Creating Image Labels in Photoshop.

So I threw together a few and put them on the phone just to check sizing, placement , etc.
Hardest part is finding suitable pics ( using Google image search ) but can tell still need to fine tune some things like contrast in the images and text bar/font/font size but not too bad for someone with no real idea what he is doing LOL.
All done using Gimp and paulmz' icon dimensions for the incredible w/status bar hidden. thanks Paul.
Good work! I like all of those icons. Isn't it amazing how many different photos there are of Danboard?
Thanks for posting!
Thanks for the props, but yeah, it's insane how many photos are of him (and his little family). I had a hard time choosing which photos I wanted to use!
I took the SMS Unread Count widget and changed the icon png's using APK Manager. The counters work and the widgets link to their respective apps (gmail, sms, phone).
NOTE: I did not write this app. All I did was change the icon images for an existing app. If this app does not work for any reason, I apologize in advance for not knowing how the app works or how to fix it. Please (1) try downloading the original app as linked above and (2) contact the developer of the original app with any problems.
I only have this done for the Incredible so far... and only in blue. The size of the icons should also work well with any 480x800 resolution device.
can i just ask, when peopl are using launcher pro with these great looking win7 themes, what widgets are you using for facebook and other htc sense apps? I think im right in saying any app/widget written by htc for htc sense doesnt work when running LP?
are you all paying for LP+ and using the built in apps?

tedrodgers:
Personally, I rarely used the HTC Sense widgets before changing over to the Android7 Theme. Facebook does have their own app on the Market with a perfectly acceptable widget.
But, in answer to your question, yes- I do use LauncherPro Plus... not necessarily for those widgets (because I really don't use any widgets other than Desktop Visualizer, SwitchPro, and BattStatt) but more to support the developer.
The LauncherPro Plus widgets and dock pop-ups are nice, though. Definitely worth a shot.
Really nice paul! I'm really impressed it is looking more and more like it. It would be amazing if you could somehow figure a way to change the whole widget to update and display the text/mail counter, instead of a red dot at the corner.
