Default Desire S stuck with crappy lockscreen

Hello, not sure if this is the best thread but it seemed the most appropriate.

I just got a new phone a couple of days ago, a Desire S. Now, I really liked the interface, and the lockscreen used a lockring though to unlock it. Problem was, the screen turned out to be a bit loose, so I returned it and got a new one (same model, Desire S). Unfortunately, this one seems to be a different version (or something) as the lockscreen is just a bar that I pull down to unlock, I can't put a clock on it (there is one there, but I far preferred the other one) and I can't use the lockring.

Additionally, I've noticed the transitions from left to right on the home page aren't as flashy, they don't seem to swivel around (as if the screens were on a cube, rather than in a line) but just slide from one to the other. The market app also seems to be different, showing just a list of recommended apps and a couple of tabs neat the tops, as opposed to a totally different one the other phone had. There might be other things, but I haven't had it for too long. If I had to guess I'd say it's on the wrong firmware.

Anyway, I'm not sure what's wrong and I was wondering if anyone knew what was up with it and how to fix it. If this is a common thing then sorry for creating a new thread about it, I had a look and couldn't see anything.

One thing I did notice people mention was that there was another button under personalize for editing the lockscreen, this WAS in the first phone but isn't present in this one.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like the new phone is on an older version of Android, and/or Sense (HTC's Android overlay). Try going to Setting > System updates > and click Firmware Update and HTC Software Update, and see if an update is available for you.

Good luck!

Couldn't find a system update option, but there was an option under "about phone" to check for updates, unfortunately there weren't any.

If it helps, it says the android version is 2.3.3 and the HTC Sense version is 2.1

Hmmm... I'm not sure what the most current Android & Sense versions are for the Desire S, but those are older versions than both of the HTC's in my house. I'd say your best bet is to try asking these questions in your phone's specific forum, as they will know a lot more about it than I. Again, good luck!

Hi, you have the old software on your replacement phone, your first phone had the new latest software which is 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0.

Mine had the pull down bar when I got early this year, then around four weeks ago the new software updated and I now have the active ring with better animations and extra features.

If you wait the phone will almost certainly update anytime soon, or of course everyone thinks that the Desire S will get Ice Cream Sandwich so worth waiting a bit longer for that too!!

Hope this helps.
