Default Audio/Video Sync

I have an ATV3000 running ICS and I too have problems with audio sync. In every case, using different video players and different video formats, audio is always late. As I'm a person who always tries to be on time, this is especially disappointing.

Default Update_white-pointer-centered_ICS.zip

Hi all, I have modified and repacked the update package made by cupi1234.
Now, the white cursor is perfectly centered.
You can verify going to: Settings --> Developer options --> Pointer location (check).

Copy this update file into your sdcard (or usb pendrive) and install as usual or, more easily
(as suggested by enviro8), you can install it using the Upgrade app that you find among inbuilt apps.

This is the link: update_white-pointer-centered_ICS.zip

Edit:
If you prefer, I have modified (and centered) also the bigger cursor made by Geniatech.
Here is the link: update_white-pointer-centered-big_ICS.zip

my experience with v4 made me move back to 11022011.
besides zooming in in player mode, 1cm top line sometimes was copied down, i noticed that all streamed movies from nas via wifi were not smooth (glitch every 5 min), also the sound seemed to be a little behind the video. after downgrade to 11022011, the same files play smooth (not a single glitch in the whole movie) and video and audio is in perfect sync. any one noticed it too? if u use the box mainly for movie playback, version 4 is not there yet. version 11022011 is the best so far, so i think i ll stick to it for a while now.

Hmm.

Okay. Decided to upgrade. I watched the video again and thought I'd follow that procedure instead of using Settings->Privacy->Update System

Essentially, copy SPI to SDCard, rename to update.img
Unplug box, hold reset button and plug in. Once on the update failed screen, insert the sdcard and select option 3.

Tried to use the remote to select option 3.
Bugger. Remote doesn't work. What now? Try the USB Mouse.
Plug it in. Nothing.
Ahhh, I think I should've plugged the mouse in during normal operation so it could detect it.
Hopefully nothing has been wiped, so I remove SDCard and cycle the power.
Boots up no problem, insert mouse, mouse works. Power Off, Hold Reset Button, Power On and back to the update screen.

Now, moving the mouse scrolls the selection and I can get item 3 highlighted, but clicking any mouse button, doesn't select it. Looks like I can't update using this method unless I have a keyboard.

Now for my dilemma.
I could select the Settings->Privacy->Update System option, but as I haven't updated one of these units before, I don't know whether I'll have to make a menu selection at some stage (which would kill the process)

From the video, the second stage looks to be automatic. i.e. once the spi has been updated, unit off, copy update_20120111 to SDCard and rename it update.img.
Place SD into unit and hold reset while powering up. It will auto load the file.

Does anyone know, (for certain please), that if I select the Settings->Privacy->Update System option to update the SPI, will I have to make any input during that process?

I assume using this method, I have the SDCard with the SPI file already inserted before selecting the Settings->Privacy->Update System option.

Nevermind.

I decided to try my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard.
I have a usb bluetooth dongle and plugged it into the Android Box.
the keyboard was working so I rebooted into update and did the update.
Worked like a charm.

Default Wii Remote pairing

Hi,

have you any experience about bluetooth pairing between a wii Remote and a Geniatech Enjoy TV - (Android 2.3 MyGica 20111104 fw)

Bluetooth dongle is OK, discovering OK, but pairing is failed, i don't know what is the code. Normally Wii Remote has no code, but this situation I need to input someting to...

Thanx in advance.

no matther you already solved, with mouse you need to cycle between menu items with wheel. menu is NOT clickable.

When I used the mouse, moving the mouse forward and back would change the highlighted selection. My mouse wheel did nothing. Pressing left and right button as well and also the wheel button did nothing. So it allowed me to highlight a menu item, but I had no way of hitting "Enter" so to speak.

Yes, keyboard solved it for me.

if u gonna use it as media player, stick to 2.3 version (update_11022011),
if u gonna use it as a web browser player, i think version 4 is better

I haven't tried using a Wii remote with an Android box... but I might try it.
I don't own a Wii but know a couple of people who do. One time, I might take the Android Box there and see what I can set up.

I'm setting up the NeonIQ I got mainly as a video player for tv shows and movies.
I decided to go with version 2.3.4 and see how that performs before deciding to go with ICS or not.

Compared with the 2.2 that the unit came with, the update is a huge improvement. (2.2 was okay, but you appreciate the difference to 2.3 once you update)

I've tried the Wifi File transfer app that was installed and it worked well. I've also installed Samba Filesharing from funkyFresh to compare. Both work great so far.
I used ES file explorer on my Galaxy S (Running CM9 - Nightly) to transfer and manipulate files on the NeonIQ.

As I do more testing with playing various file types, I'll let you know how it performs. So far so good playing some H.264, MKV.

Does anyone know which files are responsible for the AC3 codec support?

In the first ICS beta was noise at AC3. The current ICS image is repaired by adding support for this codec. I bet that is a matter of some selected files to support AC3.

I found this on other forum:
"To make AC3 work in movies you need to push 2 files ...... to system/lib/ directory:
libOMX.TCC.ac3dec.so
libTCC_CDK_CONFIG.so"

This query is for any Australians on this forum: Has anyone had much luck with ABC iview? My first upgrade was the Multilaser update. When I tried iview the site said that I needed to install flash so I went to the Play store and installed flash 11. I tried iview again and it worked but not perfectly. There was noticable frame dropping and a repetitive clicking in the audio. I tried gio965's full patched ICS upgrade and iview wouldn't work at all with either the existing version of flash or flash 11. The iview site appeared extremely large on my screen. So large that I couldn't see most of it and I couldn't scroll around either. When I tried to watch a program iview kept displaying a message to say that the connection had been lost. I went back to 2.3 with update_20120111_gio.zip and had the same issues so I'm back to the Multilaser version which is usable but not perfect. Has anyone got iview to work with ICS?

Just an update on the video playback.
Remind that I am on 2.3.4.

It's a little disappointing. Every file I have played so far, I notice a slight sync problem between the video and the audio.

I've been testing mainly with Moden Family and Game Of Thrones 720P.

I installed MX Player. On starting it, it didn't ask for any codecs. (I actually thought it would).

It was about the same as the standard player. Slight audio sync problem.

I've also noticed an audio sync, seems to come and go.

Slightly interesting news, someone recently asked again over on XBMC forums about Amlogic players running XBMC and Davilla one of the XBMC developers cryptically replied... which usually means something is in the works. That doesnt nesscarily mean XBMC running under Android could be running under linux on these media players.

On another note could any Android experts explain to me how does Android handle hardware acceleration for video ?

Is there no standard API that any media player can plug into as I've seen apps on Google market that go out of their way to support various chipsets Android runs on, same problem with Flash too Geniatech supply their own version of Flash with hardware acceleration but some tablets don't need to do this at all and use the stock Flash no problem.

out of sync problem is even worse on version 4.0, on 2.3 i did not noticed it, and i usually play 720p or 1080p.
regarding player, i use standard player for vidios, its doing a good job, as it is specially designed for the hardware in the box.
on my motorala xoom tablet the only players which can play 720p mkv files are DicePlayer and Vplayer. the rest can not do it(rock player, mobo, mxplayer, etc). maybe these players could work ok on our box?

edit:
diceplayer performs bad on the box. it can not use HW so it defaults to SW, so does VPlayer. so the default players are the best ones to be used so far...
btw, any way to make subtitles bigger than 30 and make them save the size for the next time?

I have been trying for ABC Iveiw without success.

We will have to wait until they bring out the Android version. They have a PC and Ipod version.

I also have noticed the lip sync problem differences with Gingerbread and ICS, with ICS being quiet severe.

Nonetheless I find the the lip synch problem is not uniform across video sources.

When playing video from some sources such as videos on my network it appears to be non-existant (Networked live TV, YouTube, TV Dongle (Gingerbread)), slight with Crackle but significant with Veetle.

I do not have a lip sync problem with my Android tablet with either Gingerbread nor ICS.

I am thinking that one of the application providers may be the source of the problem. I have found a file called media provider and wonder if this is the cause and by using one from another source could overcome the problems. And, if so, are there other system files that could be transposed from another device into the box, and if so, which?

It might work and I will give it a try, but firstly, any suggestions as to the appropriate files to try?

I've been able to watch Iview with Gingerbread straight from the Iview web site, although it is a bit jittery. I haven't been using an app. With ICS though, Iview doesn't work at all.

Just for everyone's information, I have found that streaming videos from a PC over wifi works fine for me with Gingerbread but with ICS there is always a noticable audio delay no matter what video player I use.

I've been playing my files from SDCard or SDCard in an adapter through USB port.
But I did also plug in a 2.5" HDD to test also so I don't think the source is an issue.

I was on 20120111 and now went back to 20111102 to see if there is a difference.
I am still getting a slight sync problem.

My player is on 720P.
The delay is about 160ms - 200ms.
It doesn't sound like much, but it is noticeable.

I changed the display to 480P and 576P and there is less delay. I'll check it again to get how much of a delay but may only be 80ms - 120ms now.

I used the audiovideo test sync file from this site. (I hope it's okay to post a link)

Audio Video Sync, Alignment & Latency Test

I'm hoping to get it to where it's almost not noticeable. We shouldn't have to deal with sync issues anymore these days.

I may be interested to know of any Android tablets that have HDMI out, have a USB port, SD Card Slot, WiFi and can play and output at least 720P perfectly.

I am running the ICS rom.

Yep agreed. An Android iView app would be great. I think the problem with flash is that we need hardware acceleration for iView to work without freezing and this was supposed to be available on Flash 10.2 in the gingerbread rom. However, iView seems to need a later version of Flash.

Re the people with sound sync problems I don't have any issues with that. I play all my movies from a usb drive (usually avc in mkv or mp4 container). Even Crackle and U-tube streaming and playing from a local samba server has no sound sync problems either.

What I would really like is for the TV tuner dongle to be supported on ICS so I can have an all-in-one media centre.

Just tried streaming video from a PC over wifi with my atv1000 set to 1080p and still had no sync problems (with Gingerbread). One thing I did notice was that scrolling through icons or scrolling through files on the network app was noticably jerkier at high resolutions.

I have an iMiTO AM801 8" tablet (aka Blitz RS8) that I am happy with.

It come with Gingerbread loaded.

It has:
  • a mini HDMI output, 1080p output (not tried as I do not have a HDMI adaptor)
  • USB port (micro)
  • SDcard slot (micro)
  • WiFi
It does not have GPS though

The screen is good and clear and there is no lipsync problems that I can see. I use Crackle, YouTube and Veetle without problems.

The forum support is not as good as for our TV Box but is developing

I have rooted Gingerbread with UnlockRoot PC application and there is a GingerBreak app available to also root the unit.

I have also updated it to ICS, a simple method and have also rooted the ICS on it.

The downside of the ICS update is that I have difficulty with the USB. It simply does not show up under Computer in my Windows 7. Devices shows it and it is recognised from the Android system recovery.

ICS is faster than Gingerbread.

The ROM firmware is not as "open" as other RK2918 firmware appears to be, but it is being worked on.

I personally own an ATV 1000 and for me is a good equipment wich showed a good video and audio performance with standard gingerbread, but if you want to use it more for Internet browsing you can update to 4.0 ICS.

Is a good equipment with nice remote control and good video output on all resolutions.

Quick question,

With these units, when you're in the upgrade menu (system recovery utility), what happens when you select menu item

3. wipe data/factory reset

and

4. wipe cache partition

I assume it will just bring it back to factory state and clear cache without destroying installed apps etc, but before I do this, want to make sure it isn't going to render the box unbootable.

BTW: On upgrading the SPI, now when I enter this menu, my remote works. It didn't work previously. Interesting.

Thanks.

I'll have to check a few out and see what's available.
It's good to have a starting point for one that works well.

To answer my own questions, the cache partition has temporary data.
The wipe data/factory reset will delete the data from
/data, /cache, /datadata, /sd-ext and /sdcard/.android_secure

Yes, I can also confirm this. Spoke to Geniatech sales and their newer boxes are using the newer Amlogic M3 chipset which uses DDR3 RAM (and can take 1GB now) and some other minor differences. Not sure why they labelled the ATV1000 with "M3 media box board" but yes, mine says the same. But despite what it says there, it is still the M1 chipset.

Same deal with the Zenithink ZT-280 C91 tablet (if anyone is looking at tablets with the exact same chipset as your Geniatech, thats the one)... They released a new model called C91 "Upgrade" and the only difference is that its using the newer Amlogic M3 chipset and can take 1GB ram.

Hope that help.s

Default Going Backwards

For those that have gone backwards in firmwares, would you know if you can flash any matching SPI and firmware?

I'm currently on update_spi20111102 and update_20111102 which is 2.3.4

Because of my sync issues, I want to go back to 2.2 and check that again.

Would anyone know if I can just flash 20110907SPI which I got from NikingStore

And then the update zip from Spotbuy? (Which I'm pretty sure will be the 2.2 system that mine came with a few weeks ago)

My unit came with 0907 so I never had to go to that stage from something earlier to begin with.

I'm thinking this should take me back to my start point.

I have downloaded update_spi_all_2.2, but this looks like a much earlier version, so would prefer to go straight back to 0907 if I can.

Edit: Spoke with Geniatech and they gave me the update_spi_all_2.2 file to use (and firmware), and said there is no need for the 0907 SPI.

Default Geniatech ATV1000 component cable

Hi,
I received ATV1000 this week, but unable to connect to Tv yet.
My TV has only RCA and YCbCr inputs. This unit has HDMI
and YPbPr.I tried connecting YPbPr to both inputs but not working,
only normal bule screen. Is there any setting in this unit so I can connect YPbPr to YCbCr. I am not far from buying new Tv,but for now I am looking to connect to existing tv.

Thanks

YCbCr is digital component while YPbPr is analogue component.

The inputs and outputs from some devices can handle both, so it depends whether your TV also supports YPbPr.

I haven't tried the component out of my box yet.
As far as I know, these boxes cannot output YCbCr

When you say your TV has only RCA and YCbCr, firstly, how are they labelled?

You should have L-R audio, yes?

You should have a Composite in (Single RCA, CVBS)

And then you have Component which should be 3 RCA type connectors.
Are they just labelled Y, Cb, Cr? or do they have Y, Pb/Cb, Pr/Cr?

So when you connect to Component, you want 3 cables and then also the 2 audio cables.

Everything working good Market, motion sensor remote.

Now next I will try to upgrade firmware as flash player 10.2 is now working on all websites. For updating manual says"Copy udated file to USB,plug it to the port.Press the update button(on back of Android TV box)until there is red light appear and let button up.Then will see upgrade progress on screen.Android Tv will restart .
Don't know this will work or not because I have read different method in this forum.

First you should go to settings->about and find out what UBoot version and what Recovery version you have. While you are there, may as well check what Android version it says too.

Don't unzip, rename to update.img and install as usual.
i flashed my atv1000 with custom gio firmware. i have some problems with ice cream.

1) when my device booting, some times an error comes to screen that says "User İnterface Stopped" and screen alligment go right-down of the screen. when i rebooted my device problem disappering.

2) the power off button of remote does'nt works.

3) some times my device gives an error sd card removed. i have to reboot my device for solving sd card problem. removing sd card and inserting doesnt solve problem.

4) wireless of my device some times couldnt connect internet. i am looking settings. but i could see wireless working and there is connection. i am solving this problem with closing and again opening wireless connection.

5) when i press ethernet setting from settings menu then device gives error "settings stopped" and settings menu stops return to main screen.

Have you got the correct version loaded, the special 10.2 version or did a flashplayer update slip through on you?

Hi Everyone,

I've been lurking this post since I brought at ATV1000 and it's been a huge help for various things, so thanks to everyone so far.

However I've hit a bit of a brick wall.

I've purchased a 3TB drive to store all my media on, partitioned it to 2x 1.5 drives using Mac Os Extended (journaling) file formats. This works fine, I can add files from my Mac and they read perfectly with the ATV1000.

However I can't write.

What's confusing to me, is that I have a 16GB USB key formatted to Mac Os Extended (Journaling), and when I plug this into the ATV1000 I get two folders, sda1 (which is fully writable) and sda2 (read only).

As far as my knowledge of this topic goes, the USB key and the 1st Partition of my larger hard drive are formatted exactly the same, yet I don't get these two sda folder options with the larger.

Can someone fill me in on what I am missing? I'm happy to do my research and tackle this problem myself without being spoon fed, but I'm at a brick wall now and need a push if anyone can be so kind, or I'm happy to scrap how I've attempted to do this and go with an alternative option.

In case you're wondering why I need write, I have set up a samba server on the android so that all my house mates can access the large folder from within our internal network. We are all on Macs, which I guess could raise another question - if I was to format the drive in NTFS, would be be able to write to it using the samba server, as the android would be doing the actual writing, not the Macs?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem both with ICS and Gingerbread when trying to view streaming video from websites. (Specifically, Australian catchup TV) I have never been able to watch catchup TV with flash 10.2. Some sites say that I need to install flashplayer and some just don't do anything. Installing flash 11.1 has allowed me to view video on these sites with varying results. Sometimes the video is pretty good, with only a few dropped frames and sometimes it is quite bad. Even different videos from the same website give different results. I think that a modified version of flash 11.1 (or what ever the latest version is) from Geniatech is required to solve this issue.

Actually, the flash player issue is the only problem I have with this device. I have no problems streaming video over my home network or watching Youtube videos (using the Youtube app), only catchup TV. I use Gingerbread because ICS caused a noticable audio delay when streaming video from my PC and made my favourite catchup TV website unusable.
