And believe me, they work 100% on that flash, i have sold about 20 of them with the gingerbread os on them, then flashed with the pivos-linux on, and you tube / navi x / etc, all works fine and no buffering or lip sync issue's.

But, i think we will all have a problem with the new M3 1gig boxes, as i think pivos are going to lock the linux firmware to there boxe's only.

I can see where pivos are coming from as xbmc guys and pivos are now working together.

But the price of approx £120.00 for the xios ds and very hard getting a uk supplier is bit of a shame.

I would be happy to pay just for the linux-xbmc firmware to be released as a download, so that it can work on the clones.

So to sum it up, i think pivos is going to be the winner as there new firmware aint going to work on the clones, so we will have to buy the expensive xios.
I am thinking of maybe doing a hack and see if I can bring together my box and this development board..

My way of thinking is that I have the Power source, the Wifi connections.. I cant see why it wouldn't work. Then would have all the power and punch that will need for a while.. as at the moment I dont see anything close to it in the retail market of enclosed mini-pc's or box's.

I did but thought you were only guessing.
Anyway got a fix from Futeko. Really great fast support from them. To change the firmware to an .img file was just a case of renaming it and then do a forced flash.

It's the m3 box and m1 box similar enough to use the same updates or patches?

PIVOS have released the latest XBMC builds for their boxes. Tried on my geniatech box but no go. Looks like they have locked the firmware to their own boxes.
If they have locked it to PIVOS only does this not break the open source rules?

Tried it on my second M1 box and upgraded no problem. The first box is connected by component so may be that is broken in the linux PIVOS new build.

I have got the new firmware on my M1 box, and works ok, but not as good as the original pivos firmware, only differance i can see which is an improvement is that you tube has a buffering feature on there, but there is a lot of things missing like the custom backrounds feature, so i am back on the original firmware.

Dont know about the M3 firmware as i have not got one of them boxes, no doubt people on here will tell us if it does work on the new 1gig geniatech / fuetko boxes

Is it worth flashing?

I have just downloaded it...
I see they are recommending it to use with the new XBMC package.

Just in case others decide to flash and have problems..
Read this thread there..
http://www.pivosforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1988

They will not support you..but we have the same specs so we can discuss it here for our boxes.
Keep an eye on these threads over the coming days for the bugs to get sorted out.

Instead of flashing Pivos fw on Geniatech M1 based boxes, is there anyone can do his own XBMC build and flash it on Geniatech boxes, including m1, m3 and MX based models ?

Is there more than one geniatech box? Is yours an M1? I have a diamind M1 AMP1000. It has the same board as the M1 geniatech box. I would also like to know if the M3 updates would work, though I wouldn't be surprised if they don't.
Speaking of updates, if updates from different company's work for different boxes with the same board, what would be the latest M1 update. I'm on the one and only ICS update for the AMP1000 and everything seems clunky, just sluggish...

If failing an update. What kind of modifications, tweaks, hacks have you guys done with your M1 boards to speed things up a bit?

Well to answer my own question, I took a leap and installed the latest PIVOS update on my AMP. It worked, and everything seems snappier. Even Netflix loaded faster. Pleased is how I'd describe myself .

Well I have another problem I hoped the update would fix. But it didn't.
Netflix will play an episode for a few minutes then kicks back to the select a video screen. Anyone else have thus problem?

I have an Geniatech ATV510B (M3) and tried to install the recent pivos linux M3 firmware onto it and confirm that it can't be installed. Gives following error:

assert failed: getprop("ro.build.product") =="xiosm3"
E:Error in /tmp/sideload/package.img
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.

Shot in the dark as I'm no expert, but could it be just a simple case of modding the build prop to get it to flash

Already tried that. Used ES File Explorer while on android to modify the build.prop to set values to "xiosm3" but still getting same error. Might need to wait for someone to compile the M3 linux build with values for the ATV510B. The value on this box is "stvmc". Do you have the Pivos M3 unit also? If you do is it possible to paste the build.prop values here?

so thats final then, pivos have locked there firmware, oh well, think i might go for the acer revo now / i had the pivos m1, and yep it was good, but can't justify spending that much on pivos m3, dont really see wot the M3 can offer over the M1 anyway.

Was it the force flash method you used?

What version of busybox came installed on your 510b
Thanks

I'm not too well versed with android yet so dont know what force flash means. I just did the usual pinhole reset method to update.
I do see an busybox file in /system/xbin but don't know how to check what version it is.

Hi!
Try this:
rename the update.img to update.zip , unpack , then go to the following folder META-INF\com\google\android\
open "updater-script" with Notepad++
delete these lines from the beginning of the updater script:

assert(!less_than_int(1355547874, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "xiosm3" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "xiosm3");

Now repack the update , rename to .img and try to update.

only have these two lines
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "xiosm3" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "xiosm3");

So once deleted line 1 is show_progress(0.500000, 3);

Can anyone help really desperate to get this thing flashed, thanks

Pretty please anyone gonna make my Xmas, just a bit more info

Would replacing the line with what in the standard update bypass the check?

assert(!less_than_int(1343287419, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "stvmc" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "stvmc")

I don't have a box I can use at the moment. The one I had is wrapped up for a Christmas present at the moment . Although I have asked for one myself.

Hye cupi1234,
thanks a lot for the instructions. I tried that and the getprop error is gone now but shows up a E:signature verfication failed error

I tried copying the cert files from METAINF dir and made the new img but still the same error. Any ideas?

Probably you need to resign the update zip.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/93205994/Update-Zip-Packager.zip

unpack this into a folder

unpack the update.zip you want to modify in the "placehere" folder
if you want ,make modifications (remove .apk-s add apk-s etc...)
run "script.bat"
Do you want to clean out previous updater-script and update.zip (y/n)?
press "n" "enter"
press "2" "enter"
wait
When signing is done You're good to go

unpack this into a folder

unpack the update.zip you want to modify in the "placehere" folder
if you want ,make modifications (remove .apk-s add apk-s etc...)
run "script.bat"
Do you want to clean out previous updater-script and update.zip (y/n)?
press "n" "enter"
press "2" "enter"
wait
When signing is done You're good to go
Ok now. So i did all the steps and was able to install it without errors.
But now the box is keeping on rebooting infinitely without showing any bootup screen. Could it be anything to do with a different bootloader between the pivos and the geniatech boxes?

I don't have a box I can use at the moment. The one I had is wrapped up for a Christmas present at the moment . Although I have asked for one myself.
I tried changing to these and signed the update, still didnt flash just stops when verifying...the quest continues

I have looked but cannot find one. Nothing seems to fit.

Some time ago I saw a post where Geniatech sent someone a connector.

You might like to contact them.

If they do not have one, they may be able to tell you where to buy one and its item no., etc. And if they do, could you post the info - it would be very useful.

If you don't find a connector you may try with some connectors like this from an old pc:
Or you can find connectors like in your picture , in some old cassette players.(go to the flea market and search for some dismantled players)
