just my experience on a few things. after doing this every thing was working fine, but the problem was to start the unit. i had to spend around 20 min to get it starting, and never got it starting while hdmi cable was plugin. so i downgraded and installed update_spi20111028_all_2.3.zip with update20111102.zip. now youtube is not working properly, but at least my box is starting no problem. is it any other way to fix youtube without affecting the start/boot? any current fw updates coming soon?

somebody asked about resolution: in the menu u can select from small to 1080, both Progressive and Interlaced (xI,xP, yI, yP) so it will work on most TV sets!

gio, what is rooting? what it is for??

also confirm that veetle.com is working, i could watch live broadcasts!

i got mine from AsiaPads.com. i would encourage to pay 20e extra and got delivered by a courier (dhl, ups, etc), coz i didnt pay and got delivered by ordinary post, took a long time + had to pay custom fee for importing things from outside europe.

Hi stasik, "rooting" means that we can give free access to the "root" of the system (or deny),
to those apps that require it.
It's important to have a rooted device , because many apps need root permissions for their installation
and for a full working (as for example: adobe air, antutu CPU master, mybackup pro, root explorer...and many more).
Generally, by factory, android devices are not rooted, because apps (that need "rooting") can act on system files and that can be dangerous if the user is not expert.
But if we know what we do, "rooting" gives only advantages.

After bricking my GTV 220 (probably the same as the ATV 1000), I ordered a Geniatech ATV 1000. It arrived yesterday as the MyGica ATV 1000.

I used Root Check and found that the unit straight out of the box is already rooted. Apks that require a rooted device before they will work, such as Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, work.

So there is no need to try and root your ATV 1000.

BTW the ATV 1000 came with a black wand/keyboard and this must operate on a different wifi frequency as the white wand/keyboard that came with the GTV 220 does not work with the ATV 1000.

Now to upgrade to Version 2.3 without bricking it.

Because, actually in my ATV1000, I've a 2.2.5 android release (20110804) with no flash player inbuilt and I can install any version of flash.

on my version 2.3 is installed version 10. i went to market and tried to install 11 but was getting error. so i uninstalled v10 and the installed v11 with success, but i still get errors on some youtube videos. i think i have to remove somehow the adobe in the zip file, update the fw and then install v11. but how to do it? inside update20111102.zip/data/data/ there is a folder com.adobe.flashplayer/lib with 2 .so files inside. also in update20111102.zip/data/app/ there us a file com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk. if i delete these then zip and then install the fw, will it be ok? or what do i have to do (delete) in order to install the fw without the flash??

Hi stasik, when we watch videos from m.youtube.com eventual problems don't depend by flash player
(you can also uninstall it, and you will continue to watch videos, the same), but these problems have other causes (probably, firmware or inbuilt videoplayer).
If you want, you can go to this previous post: Geniatech Enjoy TV

I would like to customize firmware, too (for example, new or different apps), I can tell you that I have already tried it, but with no result so I ask to more experts, if it is possible to do it, or we need particular programs or permissions.

@enviro8
If you want to use your white wand/keyboard, you should open your bricked GTV 220, remove the dongle usb receiver from internal usb port and plug it to your new ATV1000 (also externally).

According to some of the posts, there have been problems with YouTube not playing.

Well the solution is out there.

If you have updated to Android 2.3.4 as per above posts and still are having problems, then get Mygica_update20111102.zip and update_spi20111102.zip from Geniatech MyGica Enjoy TV productos para Television Digital | Android TV and install them in the above order sequentially by renaming them update.img. Install using the reset button and power plug method.

DO NOT UPDATE YOUTUBE!!

If you have done the above and YouTube no longer works, then you probably updated it. You could reinstall but that means that you will have to reinstall all those Apks again.

The easy way is to firstly delete YouTube from your box – Settings -> Applications ->
Manage Applications -> All. Find YouTube and click on it to uninstall.

Now you need to find a replacement.

Go to where you down loaded Mygica_update20111102.zip and unzip or unrar it.

Open the unzipped Mygica_update20111102 folder and drill down to Data -> App and you will find the YouTube Apk there named “com.google.android.youtube-1.apk” with 815KB.

Simply copy it across to your SD card and install it. You may have to open, close and reopen YouTube for it to take and you may have to shut down the box to get it to work as my first opening had no sound.

And DO NOT UPDATE YOUTUBE!!

enviro8, if u check previously, u ll see i had serious problems with Mygica fw. youtube was working, but i had trouble powering the box on.

i will try to experiment, and remove the flash from latest fw. after u do modification, u need to sign the fw in order to pass the verification. i have some ideas, i ll see how it goes.

edited: after messing a bit with firmware file, i tried to sign it. i used both keytool, jarsigner and SignApk and every thing is fine, but when i try to flash firmware, i get verification failed. what i am doing wrong? this is the output:

Sorry I do not think I can assist in the signing as I am not familiar with the method.

However I would sugest you take you unit back to version 2.2 (Post #292) and firmware 20110909 (Post #252).
Then update with correct zip file for your box after unzipping the file 20110907SPI.zip (Post #252)

Then follow the instructions in the PDF download (Post #252), be careful to use the correct files, their names are similar and some are spi files some are not, and use the zip or img suffixes as required.

After you complete this, go to the MyGica site and download Mygica_update20111103.zip and update_spi20111102.zip rename them sequentially update.img and install one at a time in the above order.

You may have done this already, I though did but when I had a problem I started carefully from scratch again and was successful.

To update flash.

First of all install Titanium backup from market and use it to uninstall flash 10.2.

Reboot

Use Market to install new flash player.

I used this method to install Flash 11.

how to use Titanium backup to uninstall flash? i installed Titanium backup but i see only overview, no backup or similar options.... do i have to install superuser? how to uninstall flash wit it? what is different from uninstalling from ordinary menu from the system?

edited: in order for titanium to work, i needed to insert sd card. i uninstalled flash 10. i could watch the video via web browser but could not watch the same video from youtube applet. installed flash 11 but the same: browser ok, applet not ok.
as someone mentioned, the problem is that some .so files are copied to a different folder, whats why u get error, regardless of what (if any) version of flash installed.
waiting for next fw to fix it...

I have no problems with FlashPlayer since I updated first to
Update20111102 as this has Markest, the special 10.2 version of FlashPlayer and gets over the YouTube problems and then the SPI update UpdateSPI20111102 as this fixed the component video problem.from the Mr Gica download site: Geniatech MyGica Enjoy TV productos para Television Digital | Android TV

But note that I have updated sequentially according to the instructions of the previous post.

I used the updated using the centre icon download first and then the right download icon.

Remember not to update to any other Flashplayer version. If you do, then YouTube will not work correctly

Hi, if you want to listen to music, I can suggest you TuneIn Radio Pro vers.4.2:
This is the link: TuneIn Radio Pro 4.2 - APKTOP

As regard flash player 11 (even if there is no direct connection to music listening), if you want to update from 10.2 to 11.1, I can suggest to try to revert to an earlier firmware (20110804), my actual favourite one: update20110804.zip
(this firmware release permits the installation of any flash player version)

Then, you can update to the latest flash player 11.1: Download Adobe.Flash.Player.11.1.102...ndroid.apk - BitShare.com - Free File Sharing and Storage

*for flash player downloading: click regular download-->wait 45sec.-->solve captcha
(if two words are not clear, change them and write inside bar: first word - a space - second word)-->start download

If you need Market and are running firmware 10110909, then the following site should help you:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1765845&p=2

The post second from the bottom on this page is the one you want.

Further, several ways to uninstall and install the various versions of Flash Player, particularly the one that plays You Tube video correctly, are posted above.

I think you need re-pairing the keyboard and the receiver, press "y"+" " " and hold several seconds, untill the led turns on, then you repairing the wireless keyboard and the receiver that is inside the ATV or GTV.

Hi, both firmwares are similar but I prefer 20110804 release because I seem more stable, no flash player inbuilt and it don't give any problem to play, smoothly, videos from youtube.

Thank you for that, but I did that previously.

I since noted that the white wand that came with the GTV 220 has a sticker with 0031 on it and the TV box has a matching sticker. The black wand that came with the My Gico ATV 1000 has a sticker with 0013 on it and the TV box has a matching sticker.

It appears that they are different.

Addendum

The TV boxes have an internal USB port, some apparantly have/had two, and there is a wireless receiver plugged into it with a code number the same as that of the wand.

The My Gica web site Geniatech MyGica Enjoy TV productos para Television Digital | Android TV states for the 20111104 download:

"Version 1104 (4-11-11) upgrade Android 2.3 Gingerbread, no work youtube, full apk"

Apparently their version does not support YouTubebut the site reports their 20111102 fixes the YouTube problem.

I assume that other sources of these two updates are the same, however I can confirm the the 20111102 version plays YouTube very well.

As I posted above, I bricked my GTV 220 during an upgrade. Actually I don't think it is fully bricked as it partially starts but freezes before boot completes.

I suspect that the bootloader program is faulty.

I have tried a variety methods to get it to the point where it will boot to the point where it reads an update on a SD, but it simply freezes before it can.

I have tried all combinations of the reset switch/power plug/power switch. Nothing!

I opened the unit and found an internal reset switch. I tried every combination, no luck.

I saw an internal USB port with a WiFi receiver for the wand. I removed and plugged in a USB cable and connected it to my PC hoping that I could access the onboard system areas or bootloader program or something so that I could reflash it or something. All it did was to power the box up but it still froze during the boot.

The PC did not even recognise that the box had been connected. It was similar with the two external USB ports. I also tried it with my operating ATV 1000, same thing. (Note: If your power supply dies, then the box could be run from one of its USB ports with a mains power/USB adapter - what about in the car with a car TV/Video/DVD and USB car charger??

Having a look around inside the unit, I note one free 2 pin, one 3 pin and one 4 pin sockets. Could these be used to reflash the box, if so, how?

Hi!

in this post: Geniatech Enjoy TV szemo77 wrote from the ttl cable, and uboot programing. You nee a pc with rs 232 serial port, or usb to serial converter, need a ttl programer cable : Simple TTL to RS232 adapter | Scientific, embedded, biomedical, electronics contents. and software for this operation.

this thing is same for router unbricking:

I think to that only bootloader freez at debug mode. First time I brick my ATV300 with wrong SPI and I use ttl cable to connect serial goldpins. There is Uboot. Some log from my unbrick action You must take some Uboot commands to load first only SPI and then base firmware.

There is one more rebranded Geniatech ATV1000 in market. Now in EU
Hmm datasheet and manual is from 10.2011. Box is shipped with Android 2.3
http://media-tech.eu/products/media-droid

Manual:
http://media-tech.eu/download.php?id=5224&lang_code=en&type=instruction
Marketing datasheet:
http://media-tech.eu/download.php?id=5278&lang_code=en&type=promotion

Mediatech relese firmware on website only for Rockchip android box; :/ for ATV1000 not. Pity, because according to the manual firmware for their ATV1000 looks very good and stable version.

Hi!
enviro8!
At a moment I have the same problem with my "Lifeview Not Only Tv" when I first try to upgrade to 2.3 .
Just power up the unit and it stay at the android logo. This was after the SPI update. My first reaction was the same , that I bricked my unit.
After some tries I renamed a 2.2 update package to .img and the unit revive...
The SD card was in the machine before I press the reset button and plug in the power plug.
Before all these ,pull out the AC adapter and press the power button.(for fully discharge the adapter)

Default 720p / 1080p resolution?

Hi!

Anybody knows why this devices sets 720p = 1200x690 and 1080p = 1800x1040 instead of the standard 1280x720 and 1920x1080?

Is that a problem with my tv/monitor? or there is an historic/good reason to set that resolutions?

Thank you for the advice. I tried it to no avail.

When I boot/start up I do not get to the logo stage but I am frozen out part way through an update stage.

yep, no market. i tried to install applications from web browser, but it says i already installed (installed on previeous update). but the good news, youtube application now is working fine! finally..flash 10.2 installed. also stereo sound is working fine. a note to make that the network by default is off. the rest to be tested, but so far so good. i dont worry much about market, as i have all aplications on sd card anyways.

fcatrin, u can sellect 720i, 720p, 1080i, 1080p, but dont know the pixels exactly. i presume 720 is 1280x720, and 1080 is 1920x1080, well that is the standard anyway. but u also can move the 4 edges of the screen in or out separately, so that is handy in case ur tv is of odd pixels and ur picture wont be left out

Those are the resolutions I've expected but no, it uses some non-standard resolution.

I think that this is to avoid loosing part of the content in some TV's, althought that's not my case.

I finally found that setting some properties on uboot you can switch to the standard resolutions. I haven't rebooted yet, and I hope those changes persists upon reboot.

What No Market with 20111117Update.zip?

Get it here!!

What you will need is:

DownloadProvider.apk (already installed with the 20111117update)
Gmail.apk
GoogleServicesFramework.apk
Vending.apk
RootExplorer.apk

Where do you get them?

1. Download “Mygica_update20111102.zip” from http://mygica.es/descargas.html - centre icon.
2. Unzip (7-zip is a free download)
3. Open the Mygica_update20111102 folder ->data -> app
4. Find “Gmail.apk” and “RootExplorer.apk” and copy to root of SD card
5. Open the Mygica_update20111102 folder ->System ->app
6. Find “GoogleServicesFramework.apk” and “Vending.apk” and copy to root of SD card.
7. Assuming you have updated with 20111117Update.zip, then put the SD card in the TV Box
8. Install “Rootexplorer.apk”
9. Open “Rootexplorer.apk” and check that “Mounted as r/w” is selected (top left hand corner), if not click on “Mount R/W”
10. Scroll down to sdcard, open, locate “Gmail.apk”, long press and select “copy”
11. Back out one step and scroll up to data -> app
12. Paste “Gmail.apk”.
13. Back out two steps and scroll down to sdcard, open, locate “GoogleServicesFramework.apk”, long press and select “copy”
14. Back out one step and scroll to system -> app (Note: go to System this time)
15. Paste “GoogleServicesFramework.apk”.
16. Carry out steps 13, 14 and 15 for “Vending.apk”
17. Close down RootExplorer
18. REBOOT – I suggest you turn the TV Box off, unplug, wait 10 seconds and insert power plug.

You now should have the Market. Login to your Google account and away you go. (BUT make sure that you are connected to the Internet)

Note that my install threw up a couple of Gmail error messages but I ignored them.

Further, if you liked any other apk, just copy them to your SD card and install them as you did with “Rootexplorer.apk” above.

You are likely to get a message about updating your apk’s. If you want YouTube to run correctly, do not update FlashPlayer!!

Sorry my error I think, it is probably a gmail account but really cannot recall what I did. All I know is that I login with a gmail address and enter my password and away it goes.

Someone else may be able to enlighten us.
