Default M6 GOOGLE Android 4.0 Google SMART TV BOX Cortex-A9 1.4GMHZ DDR 1G Built-in Wifi

Hi there,

i've bought this android tv box, but after a few minutes using it, it frezes and sometimes reboots it self. After this i've contacted the seller that gave me the link for a new firmware. I've copy all the files (factory_update_param.aml, refee120604-120704.zip, uboot-wyst-a11.bin, uImage_recovery ) to an SD card, power of the box, pressed the reset button and power on the box. the result is that i don't see anything in the screen and when i turn the box on, nothign appears. I'm new with android system, can someone give me a help on this? Is it possible to recover the system?

Thank you.

First download SDTool from: V-Play download section
Then follow these instructions from another member on here

YOU MUST RUN SDTOOLS ON XP OR IT WONT WORK!
Quote:
1 1GB SD card reader mount SD
2 run SDtool_v1.4_EN.exe
3 search bin firmware uboot-wyst-a11.bin - select unit SD card and click MAKE SDcard
4 copy firmware files in the root of the SD
5 remove SD
6 off tv box, insert SD, hold RESET button and plug power back in while holding reset
7 Keep holding untill android appears on screen
8 once flashing is complete, remove power cord hold reset again and power it back on.
9 let it run the flash again and select reboot from the menu.
I had the same problem on the same box a few days ago. After several hours of research this was the solution.

I dont know if 4gb has an affect or not. But what I have noticed is it works better if you format the SD card to fat32 before you attempt to us SDTool.
Also make sure the SD card folder is not open when you click "Make SDCard" as it wont work.

I think it is formated with fat32 and the several times i tried, the SD card folder isn't open. What is the version and language of windowx XP you are using?

I use a little card reader adapter which it detects straight away..

Do you run SDTool as Admin?
Are you sure your picking the right drive letter when trying to run SDTool?
My SD card usually comes up with 4-5 drive letters but only 1 is the main one.
I'm not sure but if nothing else works maybe you files are corrupt?.?
If that's the case let me know and ill give you links to the firmware I used.

My laptop as a built in sd card reader, and it isn't detected by hiren's mini xp. On windows XP, it only has 1 drive letter, SDTools only pick one.
Can you give me the links to the firmware you have used?

thanks a lot.

Hi,

I just saw this topic...

I just want to warn you, device mentioned in first post is Refee M6 device which is built on Amlogic AML8726M platform and if it runs at 1.4 Ghz, that's not good for sure and highly overclocked...

Specs for AML8726M cpu: 800 MHz (up to 1 Ghz, but seems not very stable).

If I'm wrong please correct me, I do have specs of Refee's M6 device...

Hi to @All
I dont have the box, but i wants to buy one of M6.
Can you tell me your impressions with this box.
How the box works with 1GB of memory can you compare it with boxes with 512 MB and can you find custom firmware or use the stane1983?
Thanks

Default Refee Digital Android TV Box

I have bought one of these: refeedigital(DOT)com(SLASH)pro_view.aspx?id=67

Can anyone tell me if there is a ROOT firmware release for this - is it the one mentioned earlier in this thread?

I made a rooted version of the stock firmware, with instructions from stane1983. It's working great (still LAN issue):

Hope this is a step further.

I'm new here so I can't post links, but take a look at the oval elephant forum.

Oval Elephant • View topic - Stock FW with ROOT available now!

@Stane1983, thanks for your tips. It's actually 1GHz and the box has a f16ref board. Some chinese people are counting the GPU speed with the CPU speed, so that's why it sais 1.4GHz.

I saw that you are a great developer. I don't want to ask you to do more work, because I think you did enough for the ATV boxes, but do you know where to start when we want to solve a big ethernet issue? It's only running half duplex after enabling ethernet. Before enabling, both orange and green leds are blinking (but obviously ethernet is not activated within Android so internet don't work). When enabled, only a few Mbits is the max speed. This makes streaming impossible. Fixed IP doesn't make sense, the router reports a 10mbit half duplex connection.

Default G-Box Midnight firmware

Ok, I want to be really, really clear that this is what is being said (- I don't want to brick my second M6 GOOGLE Android 4.0 Google SMART TV BOX Cortex-A9 1.4GMHZ!!!)

We are talking about flashing the Refee Digital M6 Smart TV Box (link) with the g-box midnight 9-25-12 firmware (which I note is only an M3 by the way) (G-Box Midnight link here) and the unit will run like a charm, and also give me root access?

(The firmware download link is: here)

Please confirm x_justin

You are totally right. Before you flash, check if you have 1GB ram version, refee has also an old M6 box with 800MHz CPU and 512MB RAM (AMLogic Meson 1).

If you're scared of flashing: check forum of oval elephant, official dealer of refee's M6 box. Admin now officially recommends using midnight ROM.

Frank to say, this kind of number game is not good. confuse customer a lot. who made such a 1.4G feature really need to study the diagram of ARM CPU+GPU, CPU and GPU is seperate unit while they work.

x_Justin - did what you said - worked great! I had a small concern that SD card was no longer mounting, but the trick is to clear the cache in the boot menu just after you do the update. Do this straight away, then start loading your apps, as otherwise you will have to do this again..

This is not the same Refee device referred to in this post, however:
Is it rooted? If so, you may be able to install ROM Manager, and Reboot into recovery... Not sure if that will help.

1.4 GHz? Sounds familiar. You've been fooled (so am I). I think I ordered the same. When I checked the speed, the cpu only ran at 1GHz. I contacted the supplier:

- Me -
How am I able to let the device run at 1.4GHz (as advertised)

- Supplier -
This model chips is AML-M3.
Contain: CPU 1Ghz,and GPU 500 MHz,
So the total is 1.5GHz.

Default Working firmwares for M6 Box/Android Smart TV/GBox

The current (20121115) firmware of GBox works like a charm on this device. Download from here: G-Box. Do NOT replace the youtube app, since it is customised for this firmware.

Original firmware (from may 2012) can be found here: Hideer M6

Ok Guys thank you for your instructions.

Today I flashed my M6 REFEE ANDROID TV BOX with this recovery tools (before that I brick it. I unplugged power chord on boot)

Default Regular Way?

Hi Bosniarasta,

I have a Refee M6 (see above) and have just updated to the G-Box Midnight (Rev 2.0) 12-04-12 Firmware Update.

I really want to go back to midnight-120915 version.

With new version, I have to do something tricky to get it going: I need to insert an SD card with the recovery image, then power off, then hold reset in, power up, and keep holding the reset for 40 seconds. I then wait 10 seconds, then use remote to turn OFF, then ON. The ON starts up to 12-04-12. This is the only way I can get it started. If I take out this SD card, or use another which has not been formatted this way it does not boot.

You say Regular Way - when I get to boot loader screen with Stane's firmware, it says it is older version, so does not let me install. How did you do it?

I did EXACTLY step by step instructions from link
How to recover your G-Box Midnight (No video output / Blank screen with Blue Light / Lost SD Card) Revision 2.0 & 2.1 instructions. | G-Box Official HQ

Only mistake is, I flash it with 2.1 version , and after boot I lost my wire network (no eth0).
Than I flash it on "regular" way with latest rooted version 2.0 from here:
http://androidtvbox.us/wp-content/uploads/midnight/UWS102912pusa_121205gbox.rar

Extract on SD CARD, unpluged power cord, press reset button, power cord in, waited for couple of secs, and upload started.
After boot , network lan -ok.
Everything else ok.
It goes really smooth.
...
It is great peace of Hardware, especialy after I replace amlplayer and istalled XBMC midnight version from here:
(Topic: XBMC Frodo 12 RC2 Audio_Delay enabled [Advanced] | G-Box Official HQ)

Now i stream 720p and 1080 p from network with no problems. Thats the really reason why I bought this "player"

Good luck

Default Ethernet problems

I have updated my box to the latest firmware listed and rooted with the CWM script. I had previously tried GBOX 2.0 f/w as well and all were pretty good. Xbmc can only be updated to 10/9/12 as either xios or midnight build but works ok.

My bizarre problem is the ethernet which is supposed to be 10/100/1000. When i run speed test i get about 7mbs on wifi but on ethernet about 350kbs. This is just a recent thing as i used to get really good speeds over wire as i use cat6e from the router and a 10/100/1000 bridge.

Anyone else come across such a problem? Pretty strange, think it must be driver related or something.

I have the smart tv box 1gb ram ics 4.04
