You are not allowed to change calendar for existing event. This is not a bug, this is a feature (or, at least, this is how it was designed).
Maybe it should be made more obvious, I will think of writing something like "fixed" or try to dim the name of the calendar, so there will be no doubts that it cannot be changed.
I understand, that moving/copying event from one calendar to another could be useful, but it needs to be thought over before implementation, since it can lead to the unexpected results.
But, all in all, everything is possible

OK, please consider this a feature-request, then

Hi Powell.

I just got my first android phone a couple of days ago, a nice htc desire, and as such am searching for a "good" calendar app. I have to say yours hold alot of promize, although there are some things that still annoy me a little. But first some general feedback.

The way of setting time for an appointment I think is quite perfect, not really used to android calendars in general but I can just set a start-time very easily, and ending times are not usually important to me so 1hour duration is a perfect default.

I think it's great that your calendar shows weeknumbers btw, this is one of the main things that annoys me alot with googles calendar, good job!

As for some general criticism, even though the texture of your calendar is commendably pretty, I would much enjoy a more sleek look of the calendar, I think this would make it more functional and easily give an overview of the month in question.

Furthermore I think you should add more ways of displaying events on specific days, referring to the little circle above the date which has an event on it. I think a great way to do it would have an entirely different background color of that entire datenumber/day, the little dot is just pathetic small and easily missed (not just talking about your implementation, I think the same of the google calendar apps version).

Lastly I found the small arrows to scroll months with a bit too "insensitive", ofcourse I am new to full touchscreen phones too But I don't know if you could perhaps make their touch area bigger?

A very impressive application with great promise! I love that you can pick which calendar to synch with at start, speaking of which I think there is lacking a way to change which one is currently the synched one?

Keep up the good work, I'm gonna keep this as my standard app for now and try it out some more.

FINALLY! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I was just about to download a few of the Pure Calendar items when I saw a post about Gemini Calendar. Whew!

I just downloaded the app and it is excellent.

I noticed the same problem as Andreas - the scrolling arrows to change the month are not very responsive. It took me awhile to get it to respond.

I am earerly awaiting a widget and some skins.

Thank you for being so responsive. That really makes a difference for me when choosing an application.

I will be an Android user in three months (when my new every 2 with VZW is up) and get the Incredible. This app will be one of the first I download (as long as it is compatible with the Incredible). I LOVE the look, that is a skin very much like what I would make. I do hope it has a widget by the time I get to it, but that would NOT stop me from downloading and using this app...I'm keeping my eye on this thread!!!

I just thought of an idea regarding the month-browsing functionality that I would much prefer over its current system.

Instead of having to use buttons, I think it would be absolutely great if one could just swipe over the month-overview left or right to browse to the next or previous month. This would really increase the functionality and userexperience imo, really hope you can implement this.

EDIT: Alternatively if you made the area with the side-buttons and month-name swipable, that would work great too

Version 0.9.17 released.
There are three new features:
  • recurrent events can now be set according to the days of week (separately selectable Mo, Tu, We etc.)
  • new event can be added with relation to the call log of your phone - choose Add From Log from menu, you will see call log (history), then you can add event which will have data from the call log,
  • new event can be added with relation to the phone book of your phone - choose Add From Book from menu, then select one of your contact,
Besides, I have polished view on the high resolution screen (that is for you, Droid owners )

The graphics look GREAT on my Moto Droid! THANKS!

Don't know if you're thinking about adding this or not, but something helpful would be:

GO TO (DATE)

I needed to look at some events that are happening in the summer of 2012, and it took me a while to get there!

Do appointments show on the Android lock screen? I know this may not be the most appropriate thread for that question, but I figured if anyone would answer it would be someone that is creating a calender app!!! LOL

The best app for Android!!!
Thank you very much. As I've seen in the last month the updates come very quickly and we are very satisfied with the product. Here are some ideas:
- gestures:
- think about changing the month with a gesture on the screen (left-right)
- hiding the month view by a swipe down (similar to the status bar) to leave a day view (when multiple events)
- for a widget consider something like SmoothCalendar 4x1 form, very usefull on the home screen, and eventually a 4x2 for a week view
- If you plan to close the beta and make it a paid version PLEASE find a way for outsiders, like me, to be able to pay for it. I suggest something from the inside the app, alongside with the market.
- Also leave free a lite/demo version, so that new Android users, outside US, can find about it

Once again thank you! Really the best app on my HTC Desire.

please add this feature: the ability to have irregularly recurring events (such as a call schedule).. I would pay for that. Anything you can do to mimic datebk6 palm app would be great!

Question "Beta version expires 15-05-2010"

What happens after May 15th? Will there be a newer beta version, a full free version, or will this turn into a commercial app?

The reason I'm asking is, it certainly seems qualified to cost money ... but so many of us (in particular, me) are not able to purchase apps.

One of the best calendar app so far. Is there a way you can incorporate a copy/paste function?

I need to copy an existing entry (description & location) to another week similar to the way it's done on a windows mobile calendar.

Thanks.

I too wonder what will happen after 05/15/2010. I really like this app and would be willing to pay up to a couple of bucks for it (provided some important features mentioned in this thread are added and some issues corrected).

An interesting thing about alarms... Gemini has an "on time" reminder, as well as 5 minutes before, 10 minutes before etc. But I noticed that if I set an "on time" reminder in Gemini, it results in a "1 minute before" reminder in the stock calendar (which isn't usually available).

So if I set a reminder for "5 minutes before" and "on time," I get an alarm 5 minutes before and 1 minute before. Not much that can be done about that, I'm guessing.

On-time reminder is in fact a reminder which is set 1 minute before the event. Unfortunately, reminders can be set only in a minute resolution, there is also a system scheduler, which makes the alarms appear even less accurate (usually 15 - 20 seconds after the time that was set).
Gemini Calendar used to have "0 minutes before the event" reminder, but such reminders caused double alarms on some devices with Android >=1.6 on board.

If it comes to the 15th May and "deadline" which appears in the About dialog. It is not my intention to tease you, my friends. Gemini Calendar is still in the phase of beta, it is updated quite often, and expiration date is suppose to remind everyone, that there could be another version on the market, with new features and fixes. BTW: next version, which is almost finished and is being tested now, will have this expiration date postponed.

Some day, in the future, Gemini Calendar will probably turn into a paid/commercial application. However, this will happen not before the most important features are finished. I can assure you, that when this day comes, cost will be reasonable, we will also consider releasing a free, simplified version of the calendar.
Moreover, we appreciate the effort of being beta tester, so users, who actively send us opinions, bug reports and other valuable information about Gemini Calendar, can count on a free license, as a reward.
I understand very well, that not everyone can purchase application in the Android Market. Personally, I live in the country that was not lucky enough to have this Market feature enabled.

Thank You Thank You Thank You!! The only thing I hated about My Android was the Calendar. I am a Hairstylist and have clients who have repeating appointments every 5, 6, 8 weeks, etc. Before your app I couldn't schedule their appointments easily. I just installed your calendar, and so far it looks like it will make me very happy! I will keep you posted. Thanks again!

Just want to add to the 'Thanks' to Powell for continued development of this much-needed app. I've just installed it on my HTC Desire and it looks like just what I need at first glance. I will try to add any constructive comments here as I use it more. I'm an ex-Datebk 6 user as well, so have come to expect a lot from a Calendar app! I already like parts of this though - nice one - keep up the good work!

Here comes a new version (0.9.19)

  • Go to date dialog is now available for the Month and Day View, you can easily switch the current date to another with the same input method as in Add New Event View.
  • Three different shortcuts for the launcher has been added. Long press on the desktop, then enter Shortcuts menu. Select one of the shortcuts:
    • Add normal event,
    • Add event from log,
    • Add event from book,
  • Events in Month View and Day View are now sorted by start time, regardless of the calendar they belong to,
  • Font sizes in Day View can be changed (see preferences),
  • Read only calendars are detected and removed from the list of calendars when adding new event,

Hi,

Just upgraded to 0.9.19 on HTC Desire. After choosing the calendars it stoped working. I had to reboot, the phone became unusable. After reboot, gemini calendar still didn't respond. It just loads the main screen and stops. Perhaps a 0.9.20 will fix the app

Only calendar app I could find with an 8 day repeat for a shift workers schedule, but days started repeating everyday in July, and November for no apparent reason. Any possible fix?

Loaded this up and was very impressed with the setup process. Very smooth, well laid-out, and easy to follow for even the total rookie to Android. So far I haven't found any problems with it, but I just feel these test apps are due good comments as well as the bugs.

Great work, and I will continue to use and test!!

Suggestion: once you hit "Today" the calendar should just go there, rather than making you also hit "OK." But that's minor.

I received two reports about Force Close in the last update. I understand very well, that it is annoying and not everyone has a time to deal with problems in Gemini Calendar.
But if you are kind enough to help me fighting the bugs, please, follow the procedure I described on my site:

How user can help developer to fight with bugs

This will send the system logs from your device, showing me what is wrong.
No personal data is sent, you can always read the whole information before it is sent to me.

I'm using your calendar for about 2 weeks or so now, and the stock android calendar is sitting in the corner and cries. (i've tried calpad but it wasn't what i wanted and also buggy)
Everybody said it, but i will say it once more :
- I haven't seen a better method for selecting a time//date, it's fast and your finger isn't getting in your way.
- Month overview an "day agenda" on one screen is just great

A "hint", please :
- document the features better, for example I found out just today that long press on a date adds a new event, and I even can set more day events like that - great feature, but i learned about it trying to open the day view
- what is the day or moth view ? i haven't found them yet

I have one request and one crazy idea :
- "swipe to switch month" (like in calpad) requested already would be really really nice

- and then something that is a little bit complicated to describe:
At the beginning of the month the calendar is great as it is, but at the ending you often have to click "next month" to get an overview.
So my idea would it be possible to display in the default view the following 4 weeks :
- last week
- this week
- the following 2 weeks
(and only if you go to previos/next month the complete months)
I have no idea if this is possible - and if anybody besides me would like that

- More than one dot, if more than one event a day
It is clear that you have to cut it at some point, but is it possible to display 1, 2 or max 3 points per day ?
- Same for all day events, would it be possible to "break the bar in two" if you have more than one all day event ? (for example one being an public holiday)

I will try to help as much as a user with no idea of programming can, and going to pay for the final version

I was just about to post about this. I get the force close when I try to add the widget to my home screen. I already sent my log out to you, hope it helps.

P.S. The standalone icon 'Gemini Add Event' works very well as does the calendar itself, it is just in adding the widget I get this force close.

So my idea would it be possible to display in the default view the following 4 weeks :
- last week
- this week
- the following 2 weeks
(and only if you go to previos/next month the complete months)
I have no idea if this is possible - and if anybody besides me would like that

I just want to add my support for these two suggestions. The latter idea should be an option; I think that showing the entire month should remain as the default.

And yes (speaking as a programmer), it's very possible, but of course would require some effort by Powell.

I second (or I guess it is third by now) this. I was going to suggest this as well. Swipe to change month would be great. Maybe with the ability to swipe up + down to change view (month, week, day) and right to left to change month, week, day. Not sure if it is possible, or how tough it would be to impliment, but in a past calendar I used, it made for very fast + easy usage.

Just did this with the log recorder, then tried adding the widget and BANG! Force Close! So I sent off the log. Great timing!

After the latest update Gemini crashes when changing to a new month (on my htc desire)

It is my default calendar already, but here is my wishlist

- changing to a new month "swiping" left or right over the month button (you now have to push the tiny buttons to go back and forth)
- More minimalistic, more "clean" look would be appreciated.
- When changing an event, it would be nice to have the option to open the month view and pick a day from that view...

In the latest update, 0.9.20, I noticed the widget-maker is gone. But now the "Gemini Add Event" icon doesn't seem to go to the "add event" screen -- there's no difference between where the regular Gemini icon goes and where the Gemini Add Event icon goes.

Thumbs up

I haven't posted much about this app because I've been too busy using it. I really don't have any problems with it, but would like to make one suggestion.

When I add a new event or edit an existing event, I have a hard time selecting the date (month, day, year) and time. The slider on the right is nice for when trying to move from an early morning to late afternoon time, but is quite difficult to hone in on the exact date, hour, minute, etc. I'm not sure if it is just me or others too, but I suggest that you make it so that you can slide your finger over the slider (up and down), but also make the up and down arrows be "click-able". By this I mean make it so that if i single press on the up arrow when trying to select the hour, the hour advances by one (11 going to 12).

Now, I would like to second the request to allow the swiping between months. By this i mean swipe finger right to go to the next month and left to go to the previous month.

Finally, I would like confirm that with the new update, the add event shortcut goes straight to the main page view and not the add event view.

Great job on this app and thank you for taking the time to create it, update it, and interact with us users. Your dedication makes these very few and almost unimportant issues/user preferences I have referenced non-issues. I love this app and don't even open the stock calendar any more.

Again, thank you very, very much!

Just figured i would let the developer know..

I have tried for the past 2 days to install the Gemini again. I installed it previously and was waiting to put it back on when it had a widget and with the .19 and .20 updates, I get a force close on everything with it. I was able to checkmark the calendars I wanted to use one time, but it will force close right after and not bring any of the calendars up. I am on the Eris with 2.1 V3 leak on it. I am not able to veiw the calendar at all right now without a force close.

I must admit that I have some reports about Force Close which is quite mysterious, because on all my devices, that I have in range (5) it never happens. That makes the whole thing quite hard to solve, but I am trying to figure out, what is going on and there should be a cure soon.
I would like to ask you for a patience.

If you want to help me to solve the problem, send me logs after FC. That should speed up my investigation.
Just follow the procedure I described on my site:

How user can help developer to fight with bugs

Unfortunately, simple information that there was a Force Close does not help.
I wrote some PW's to users, that reported problems here, but not everyone answered. If you have problems with Gemini Calendar, contact me at bugs@gemini-mobile.com , that should make everything simpler.

Could the FCs have anything to do with alternate Home programs? I'm running a "stock" Motorola Droid (unrooted) with 2.1. But I'm using Helix Launcher. The only FC I ever had was when I tried to create the widget on the home screen (I sent in a log message).

  • Bug report: moving the trackball to the right moves you one day forward in time, as it should, except near the end of the month. when the current date is may 29th and weeks begin on sunday, moving the trackball right has no effect. It works fine one week earlier, on may 22nd
  • Feature request: when you press the trackball button while in month view it should do something, for example either add an event or open the calendar in day-mode. Currently it does nothing.

Yea, I'm not sure where all the reported FC's are coming from. I have HelixLauncher 1 and have never had a FC, except when I tried to add the widget to my home screen. However, that FC was HelixLauncher FCing and NOT Gemini.

Come to think of it, this is the only app that I have ever used that has not had a FC. That includes all of the stock apps (phone, calendar, contacts, maps, etc) as well.

Wow, interesting observation. Now that you mention that, I'm not exactly sure what was force closing on my Droid when I tried adding the widget, Gemini or Helix Launcher 1.

I'm sure Powell saw it on the error log I sent, though.

I know that it was Helix because the FC said Helix has stopped working. I then had the option to report or restart HelixLauncer.

Unfortunately, I did not know about the reporting feature powell had set up until after he removed the widget and therefore was unable to send a FC report.

It looks like the date is stuck on 26.04.2010. Here is the message: ! Sorry Activity Gemini Calendar (in application Gemini Calendar) is not responding

O.k., I have had some issues for some time, that includes Force Close reports from some users, and then problems with uploading a new version of Gemini Calendar to the Market (There was Internal Server Error all the time).
I hope it is ok now, if you encounter a problem with downloading, try to uninstall and then install again.
Hope the bad luck is over.

I had some issues with updating to 0.9.21 where it would simply fail to download. However, I was able to update to 0.9.22 without a problem.

Again, great job with this app. Is there any way you could also look into allowing us to change our skins? I like the metallic look, but think that i might get sick of it after a while.

Thanks,

Kratos

I would like to report something that I either never noticed before or just have not experienced before. When I was selecting the time of an event while in landscape mode, I had not deselected from that field and switched to portrait mode. When I switched, it did not remember the time I had selected and I was forced to choose the time again. Just wanted to bring this to your attention.

Again, this is still the best app I have come across and is ten thousand times better than the stock calendar.
