Default Update: AppInventor shut down by Google Jan 1, project donated to MIT

Notice: AppInventor is being shut down by Google Jan 1. The project will be taken over by MIT sometime in 2012.

----old post below----
With the winding down of Google Labs, Google will discontinue App Inventor as a Google product and will open source the code. Additionally, because of App Inventor’s success in the education space, we are exploring opportunities to support the educational use of App Inventor on an open source platform.
As a result of these changes App Inventor will be available through the end of the year but users should expect the current App Inventor URL, to change sometime in the next 90 days. Please subscribe to the App Inventor Announcement forum for future updates.

Hmm....ask me.

from what i can see, it seems they're going to mainly move it to another URL, so hopefully that means that at least those of us who have it installed already can keep using it.

oops. forgot about the "end of the year" part. nevermind. i hope they do more than just throw source code at us. I'm not a developer, and the worst thing you can do to a n00b is throw them all the complicated stuff first. I'm annoyed when people writing programs and providing them for free refuse to provide a compiled installer, and just want to give you source code.
