Cool Coligma Live Wallpaper

Hallo everybody,

I'd like to introduce myself (Hi, I'm DiCon from Aachen in Germany) and my very first app: Coligma.

Coligma is a particle based live wallpaper, that reacts to the accelerometer (gravity), the magnetometer (magnetic, compass-like particles) and your battery level.

Well, I know, that there is something like that on the market (unfortunately I found it a few days before publishing my app), but maybe some of you like it anyway. Plus, this is still a good opportunity for me, to test the Android market. There is a basic version "Coligma Live Wallpaper" for free and a paid version "Coligma Plus Live Wallpaper" (0.75€), with only a small difference. Yeah, I won't make a fortune with this, but maybe I get back the Android developer fee...

So lets start with some screenshots:

Coligma generates particles (of your choice) all the time, that follow gravity according to the accelerometer. Additionally you may tap (or drop an icon or widget) to generate additional particles of another (or the same) type:
  • Random
    Particles of random color
  • Battery
Particle color depends on the battery level (0%-33% red, 34%-66% yellow, 67%-100% green)
  • Compass
Red particles are attracted by north, blue particles by the south pole. (These are really "magnetic particles", which means, that they follow the magnetic field as it is. If you are not exactly at the equator, the earth's magnetic field is not parallel to the earth's surface and the particles may be dragged opposite to gravity...)
  • Red, Green, ...
    A color of your choice...

...and if you support me and invest 0,75€, you may set a custom background image. That's the only difference to the free version.

Some last advise:
  • With its default settings, Coligma is meant to show off and uses quite a lot of resources. If you really want to use it, I suggest to deactivate the sensors in Coligma's settings ("gravity follows orientation" and "use magnetometer") and reduce the amount of particles.
  • If you purchased Coligma Plus (thanks for that ), you should use dark backgrounds. Bright particles just won't do it on bright backgrounds...

Now just search the market for "coligma" and have fun with the free version
Or use this:

Looks nice, but I can't find it in the market.

@spottyelephant:
Thanks for reporting this problem. This is actually a bug of the Milestone, which does not report its live wallpaper capability. So I chose the (ugly) solution (like many live wallpapers seem to do), to publish a new version 1.01, that does not require live wallpaper support... The downside is, that even devices that do not support live wallpapers may see this app.
Whould be nice, if you could check, whether you can see Coligma now and tell me, if it works for your device.

Aha! Now it's there! Looks and runs very nicely - I have one suggestion though, perhaps an option that has the sparkles originate from random places all over the screen? I don't mean a few seconds here, a few seconds there; I mean like every originating particle pops out of a new place?

Just a suggestion. It's v polished as it is, kudos!

I like the idea - Why haven't I thought of this?

I think, I will add this in the next version - It's not much work to implement it, but I will wait until I have collected a few suggestions before uploading a new version. I think a wallpaper that wants to download updates twice a day would be somewhat annoying...

Hey man, it looks awesome now, I just bought! Can i make a request though? Could you make it so that the default background doesn't have the word "coligma" on it? That way it can be like a watermark on the free version that gets removed when you pay for it? Also makes a difference between the free and paid which might encourage some to upgrade. Keep it up!

I am not sure about this... The idea of the paid version is to select your own picture as a background and I am not sure if many people are interested in keeping the original background at all. Also I want to at least keep an option to keep the word "coligma".

Nevertheless I will see, if I can easily provide an option without inflating this app with a second default wallpaper and to many option. I think, there will be an update this weekend.

Ah ye, i understand that.

I think I might have a bit of a bug with a custom background though - when i turn the phone on in the morning, it's not there and the background is just black (which also looks pretty cool so not too worried!).

When i put the phone into landscape, the image re-appears.

But the bug happens when using the web browser - occassionally when i load a browser page, a black screen slides right to left and dissappears (all in about half a second), and i get a message "could not load image". I assume it's talking about the wallpaper's image.

It's not a bad bug, just a bit odd.

I just released version 1.2 and added an option to set no background at all. This is not exactly just removing the watermark, but simply drawing nothing at all as a background. Is that close to what you wanted?

Additionally, I was able to reproduce a similar bug. Not exactly what you described, but similar enough... So please try out 1.2 and tell me if the fix helps with your bug as well.

Can somebody give me some advise on how to handle problems with "wrong comments"? People keep giving low ratings and demand a version without a watermark. If they do that to protest against the watermark in the free version and do not want to pay for a full one, then I agree that it is their good right. But there are people who demand a paid one although there has been one since the very first minute.

Can someone tell me why they do not realize there is a paid one? Is there a way to post comments to the English market from the German one or any other way to reply to such comments?

Because there are a bunch of idiots from Asia who doesn't realise that they can't access the paid market yet. (I am Chinese and I live in China btw. I have seen loads of other Chinese people posting all sorts of ridiculous comments due to sheer stupidity). You will just have to learn to live with it. Even abduction gets ridiculous comments like them.

All you can do really is have a big piece of text in the description saying "PAID VERSION REMOVES WATERMARK" so ******s actually read it!

Thanks for the update btw - the black background looks v sharp, and whatever bug was there doesn't seem to be happening anymore

@snapper.fishes: Thanks for the info - I haven't realized yet, that not only selling, but also buying apps is limited to certain countries.

@spottyelephant: Glad to hear, that your bug is gone as well
