Bloat Freezer - Freeze your Pre Installed System Apps
Hey guys,
I am pretty active over at AC but this is my first time here (other than lurking to answer my own questions) and I just wanted to introduce an app that i released on Monday.
Bloat Freezer is an app that I wrote that allows you too 'Freeze' your pre installed system apps.
Freezing an app prevents it from running constantly in the background on its own and pretty much makes it invisible to the system. With a simple Defrost a frozen app will be right back to the way it was before freezing.
Freeze any protected system app with one click and prevent it from running in the background downloading data and killing your battery when you don't even use it!
Deleting/Uninstalling system apps will NEARLY ALWAYS prevent you from ever getting OTA updates on your phone again. Freezing allows you to get the same benefits as uninstalling while allowing you to Defrost at anytime to get an OTA update or use the frozen app.
It even freezes apps that Titanium Backup Premium can't like Amazon MP3.
Please report ANY bugs (force closes, not working as expected, weird graphic errors) either here or to BloatFreezer@gmail.com along with any questions or suggestions, I want your feedback!

Being a developer myself, it never fail to amaze me why a lot of free Android apps require permissions like full internet access etc. Clearly some app features do not require that at all but still the app need that permission.
This is to let users be aware there is always a "price" to pay for free app. As long as the app has that permission given, it can do a lot of things behind your back without you even knowing.
I am not against that practice but when I look for free app, I always check the app permissions.

even though you can be correct , but for most cases free internet access is used for ads

The internet permission is the only way to get ANY internet access, in this case it is used to send a log and a stack trace on every force close, which allows me to fix bugs that users do not report and only leads to a better app.

Google search is a pretty integrated part of the operating system on most phones, so it sounds like yours just cant run without it.
so I froze social networking, and then I decided I didn't like that, so I unfroze it. But none of it works now, everytime I try to use anything linked to social networking it tells me I need an active account. I can remove my account and re-add the account and it tells me it was added successfully, but when I got to use one of the apps again it tells me that I need an active account. How can I fix this?

Hi Dev,
I just rooted last night and this looks like exactly what I need, as getting rid of unwanted apps is pretty much all I want to do at the moment and I would really still like to be able to get OTA updates without any problems.
I have a few questions about this app, since I'm new to rooting. Hopefully you'll see this post
1. Will this help with the "Application Data Space is Low" issue on my HTC Incredible?
2. Do I need to clear out app data before I freeze the app, or will it be "removed" (and therefore not counting towards my limit) automatically?
3. Have you (or anyone else reading this) frozen the HTC Mail app? If so, does it interfere with anything else in Sense UI? I'm thinking specifically of the Mail area under each contact.
HI,UNFORTUNATE FIRST POST BUT HEY,WOULDNT HAVE FOUND FORUM IF IT WASNT dam caps, for the problems this app has been causing some of our members, seems the use of airpush has been upped somewhat and the amount of spam adverts etc overwhelming.the present airpush detectors dont find it.. sneaky.
