Quick Add 0.8
Android market link
I've done some massive improvements my fast contact adding application, so much so that it's almost brand new, so I thought I'd do a new thread to let people know how much more it's improved!
Most of my ideas come from some critical opinions from reddit.com/r/android - they're a tough crowd to please so I hope it pleases them (and of course you!)
Major improvements -
Standard updates
* Removed the widget in favour of a status bar notification OR an application icon short cut on the home screen.
* Added the
save & send feature - save the contact and then text them your details.
* Added options to set your name and number when sending the user a text
* User interface improvements
Detailed updates
User interface
This is something I’ve been meaning to deal with for a while now. I hope the new user interface is more fluid and easier for the user to understand.
The main user interface is now more centralised. I’ve made some space at the top by adding the old labels above the text boxes into the boxes themselves. The title and an icon set the header of the view well, and making the buttons identical lengths shows the user there is clear choice in what button they press.
Shortcuts instead of widgets
Yup - I’ve removed the widget, mainly because a lot of users don’t really use them and would prefer a quick option to be quick to access (but not take up space on their home screen) which is why I’ve given the user the option of setting a notification in the status bar OR putting the normal application icon on their home screen.
Extra settings
Their was a lot of controversy about my application reading the phones state which I was using to get the phone’s number. However it turns out most versions of android keep the phone in different places. So to combat both of these issues I added a few options to save a name and number in the settings (their are defaults just in case) and then when they save & send they text them a message like:
“Hey Mike! It’s Joe, my number is 07125477610”
(No, that isn’t my number)
Future plans
I’ve already started testing out the Twitter search functions for Quick Add, and they should be done in time for version 0.9
Facebook API is a little more complex for searching, but that should be done in time for the finished version 0.9.5.
The final 0.0.5 of a step will be general clean ups and final UI improvements until OMG YES VERSION 1.0! Which will be awesome.
