I'm pleased to announce, fresh onto the Market, a classic strategy game from Rubicon Development. Great Little War Game.
The game was originally out for iOS, reaching #1 in the strategy charts. With over a million downloads and many 100% reviews, it's the game you need on your phone.
The (definitely not cowardly) General and his team now make it onto Android, to continue the good fight, invade neighbours, deal mayhem and drink a little tea.
I was the second buyer on android market. I waited for the release the other night.......Just kept refreshing the list until it popped up. lol Thanks for the great game!
It's not in the list, sorry. Not sure exactly why, but probably because it doesn't support open gl 2.1 - that's the usual reason ime. There's nothing we can do to help either, I'm afraid - our engine can run on a lower verison of open gl, but experience has shown that the game itself isn't smooth enough on older hardware when doing so.
On a brighter note, we've climbed to #20 in the new games chart.
I sent an email and got no response, so hopefully you can help. I bought the game and installed it on my phone and tablet. The game was clearly better on the tablet so I uninstalled it on the phone from the settings menu. Then it was removed from my tablet and I got an email about a refund, which I didn't want. I tried to buy it again but it won't let me, it says 'I already have a pending order for this item.' It's been a few days and I still can't buy it. Under purchase details it says purchased and refunded with no errors. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just bought it today. Probably won't play it until I finish a couple other games I have but wanted to show my support. Nice job on a well polished release!

Didn't get the mail, sorry. Didn't do anything wrt refunds either so I'm not sure what's going on. You can mail me directly if you like and we'll look into it.

I think it's a Market problem. I've been experiencing similar issues the past several days. One time it said I had an update on a purchased item, but when I tried to do an update it wanted me to 'Accept and Buy'. This issue lasted for several days until the Market "fixed" it. Yesterday when I tried to get a refund on another game, it showed it as purchased but uninstalled. It took several hours until the status changed.
BTW, in case no one has mentioned it - my SGSII installed the PowerVR package (as previously discussed might be the fact that I'm using CF3D to mess with how my handset is seen by the Market). Good thing is that the error message now identifies the installed package, so I could choose the right drivers in CF3D. Now runs great I'm using 16x MSAA and despite that its running cooler than before, and startup time is much reduced.

Just to announce that AndroidNZ in conjunction with Rubicon have some licenses to give away for this game, along with invites to closed beta's for future projects! Check it out here.

What I like about this game is that I can play it in small doses. I like having the option to save my progress, then pick up where I left off later on. Rubicon Development absolutely nailed this one.
As an aside, I can't wait to get a more powerful phone so that I can run this bad boy on Ultra. My EVO can only handle Low The game still looks great on Low though!

1) We've shrank the APK's down to below 28Mb so this should now install on all compatible phones and tablets.
Why there are some awkward manufacturers out there not honouring Android's 50Mb recommendation, I really don't know. We've had tons of mails along the lines of "The game won't install despite having a 128 petabyte SD card". Well now it will.
2) There were some regular crashes on HTC Sensation and a couple of derivative devices. This was with the very latest firmware only, but we've fixed it now in any case. The new firmware gl driver has an "unplanned feature" in it!
3) For the slower tablets out there, we've upped the frame rate considerably. If you've not found it yet, there is a slider in the settings panel - put it on "low" and enjoy!
There are some other tweaks and munges, but those are the headlines. If you were affected by any of the above, please accept our apologies and thanks for your patience.
EDIT: We had to order in an HTC sensation so have not seen one before. Man, that is a seriously good machine. The sensation is a really appropriate name!

Interestingly, "Puffle Launch" is currently being featured on the market and we're only four spots behind it in the "New Paid Games" chart, all on our own thanks to you guys.
If we can get Android to notice it, we might get a feature of our own, but GLWG has this history of being the biggest game nobody has heard of! (regarding big site reviews etc)
Although coming late to the party, I want to make Android our first release platform of choice in the future, but some support from the guys at the Marketplace would seal the deal for future titles - of which there'll be many.

I get a message about the configuration of my phone being wrong (says the code is for POWERVR). I'm running a SGS2, no root or Chainfire etc. Given I can see it on the market I thought it must be compatible with my phone - what's happened?
Interesting, I wasn't sure if CF3D was responsible for causing that in my handset...
Using CF3D and PowerVR plugin it works awesomely, but interestingly it worked for me during the beta. Can you go to Gameloft.com in the Android stock browser with mobile UA and see what it says your handset is? I noted a little while ago that it started to incorrectly identify me as an i9103 or something, wondering if that has anything to do with it.
Sorry to sound like an utter idiot, but I've just gone to the gameloft website, with the default SGS2 browser, and can't see where it tells me what my handset it. Where can I find that info?
Just out of interest, what are you guys up to with these widgets anyway? Do they solve a problem I'm unaware of?
To explain how our download works, there are four APK's, one for each make of GPU available. This is so you only get one set of compressed textures in the download and it'll come in under the download limits.
If you have a PVR phone, going to the market should show you the PVR package. Does this not actually work properly for some people?

'what my handset it'? I assume it's a typo, and you're asking what your handset is. Based on your posts, and what's under your profile I'd say you have a Samsung Galaxy S2. What model you have depends on your provider.
Log into the Android Market from the web and take a look at what it shows as your device under the Settings tab from the My Market Account link.

Not sure what widgets you're referring to. Do you mean Chainfire 3D? Long story short, it allows one to play games made for specific chipsets, i.e. tegra on non tegra devices. The way I understand it is that it intercepts and translates hardware specific calls from the specific to the native chipset on the device.
For the record, I have a Galaxy S2(Epic 4g Touch w/Exynos) and have had no issues with the ChainFire 3D NVidia plugin loaded and without it loaded.

HTH
No typo. I know I've got a SGS2. You'll see from the posts above (including the one I replied to) that someone suggested seeing what model identification was being assigned to my phone. I was simply asking how where I looked on the Gameloft site that was suggested to find this information out (read 4 or 5 of the posts above rather than just the one you quote for the full story).
Useful advice re the market. Just tried that and it says the market thinks I have a Samsung GT-I9100 i.e. an SGS2. In which case - back to my earlier question, what does it let me download and install a game that wont run on my system (the PVR issue).
Looking at reviews it appears there is a real mix of people with SGS2 that can and cant run the game. For the record I've got a UK unbranded version bought 4 months ago running official 2.3.4

I've heard our low level tech dude going on about it but never looked myself. I agree it's a cool app. (If it didn't often confuse our tech support mails, lol.)

Same problem here, i also have a SGS2 - dutch origin, NOT rooted or Chainfire etc. so i have a Exynos processor (not Terga, Quallcom or PowerVR GPU).
Game downloaded from market, market said that my phone could install it, well, it just doesn't work... Refunded.
Please at least take this up with Android. If the market thinks your phone has a different graphics processor to what's on their database, then they need to update it. This is market problem, not ours, so sadly I can't do much about it other than bug them when these things come up. More voices = faster fixes.
EDIT: We'll be able to put this beyond issue when Android release their upgrade to allow us to host files on their servers. We can then download the version that the /phone/ says it wants. It's been slated for release since August so hopefully won't be too long.

Not sure you can palm it *all* off into Android/google. There are reviews on your market entry stating that the game does work on some Galaxy S2s. Do you have any idea why your software seems to run on some SGS2s and not on others. Reading the reviews it is not clear that the disparity is all obviously due to chainfire
The original problem with GS2 and a few others was that the download cache was not sufficient, which we've now addressed.
As to random problems with certain phones, there's not much we can do about it ahead of time unfortunately. We've tested the game on very wide range of devices, but only with the latest drivers and no custom hackery - we can't possibly cover every combination.
In a world of custom roms, gadgets and gizmos and a massive disparity of OS versions and whatnot, the best we can do is hope that someone gives us specs that let us look into a problem and address it, once one arises. If nobody tells us what the problems are though, we can't fix em.
Sadly it seems some people would rather just reach for the one star button and move on.
Just ftr, here's the top 10 phones the game is installed on, according to our market stats. The number one entry is interesting...
Interesting, I guess those SGS2 installs are either people on the initial Market release version who haven't updated (that one did install the correct package, go figure), or people using Chainfire and the PowerVR plugin. If you're an SGSII owner and really want the game right now then I suggest heading the SGS2 Root forum - I've got links to my blog there with step by step instructions on how to Root your phone and also use Chainfire.
Wait a minute, have I misunderstood this? Does it not currently work on SGS2 right now? I've certainly not had any support queries about this after we put the latest patch out.
We know the game didn't install initially due to this 28Mb limit, so it must be working right now else nobody would have it at all, let alone being the most installed device.
Some of those complaints about SGS2 compatibility on the user reviews page are fairly old btw, they're sorted by "most helpful" by default, not "by newest". If lots of SGS2 owners initally rated the "it don't work on this" review and ran away, that could explain it.
Just guessing here really, like I said we've had no complaints since we patched it and it runs just fine on our own machine. :s

That's not correct. It's not working on some SGS2s right now. I tried to install and run it just a couple of days ago on my vanilla 2.3.4 UK unbranded unrooted SGS2 and got the POWERVR problem. It is not an old problem, it is a current problem. Happy to upload and specs/logs if it helps before I root and load up chainfire.
Oh shit, fair play then! Can you send your details through to support@greatlittlewargame.com please and I'll get this moving. Sorry about this.
No worries. I'll send the error log through. If you want any further details just let me know. Note that it does appear to work on some people's SGS2s. The really confusing thing is that it doesn't work on mine (plus some others).

Yep, that is sadly all too common generally, and not just our game. We will do our best to figure this one out pronto though, thanks for sending the log, they help tremendously.

It's still hasn't sorted itself out and my email to the developer has got me no where. They told me it's an Android Market issue and that there is nothing they can do to help me. So does anyone have any suggestions?
