Are you referring to the installation message that goes something like:
"Do you want to install this application?
Allow this application to access:
•Your location
coarse (network-based) location, fine (GPS) location
•Network communication
full Internet access
•Phone calls
read phone state and identity
•System tools
retrieve running applications"
If so, please understand that these warnings come from using android permissions that are necessary for the functionality of the app:
'Your location' is from using android.permission.ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION and android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION. This allows us to monitor the phone's speed and distance travelled during a trip. This is necessary so that we can determine if the user was moving fast enough to (probably) be driving.
'Network communication' is from using android.permission.INTERNET. This allows us to send the trip data from your phone back to us for evaluation.
'Phone calls' is from using android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE. This allows us to listen to the phone state so that the app will know if the user has answered a call while driving.
'System tools' is from using android.permission.GET_TASKS. This allows us to look at the names of recently run tasks and currently running tasks so that we can determine if the user used any other applications during a trip (such as texting).
While it's possible that some of these permissions may be used for malware or movement tracking, we assure you that Drive Alive is only using them for the purposes of making sure that the user is driving safely and for the distribution of rewards.
We hope that addresses your security concerns. If not, feel free to reply or contact us at
