Love this app, use it continuously, recommend it to others - but - it is running slower and slower on my HTC Desire S - used to be really snappy but now takes several seconds to load the content. The live rotating 'loading' symbol that was introduced in the last update at least lets me know the app is trying to load but this performance issue is spoiling the experience.
Anyone know any fixes out there?
I would be quite happy to delete some old data but there doesn't seem a way to do this?
Any ideas appreciated.
The source of the problem with the performance is the way Gemini app displays the calendar data in the Month View. All events for the given month are loaded from the database when the Month View is displayed, after that, you can touch the day and see the events from this day immediately. The finger-wandering would not be so fast, if I had to load the events in the day by day method.
This is - in my opinion - a big advantage of this app, but causes also some speed issues, during the loading the month view, if user has many events in this particular month.
BTW: deleting the old events (that are scheduled in previous months) would not help for the current month performance.
All in all, I would like to say that I am aware of this problem and I am thinking of the solution. Although nowadays I use the dual core phone device for the development purposes, I always remember to check everything on my older device.
O.K., I can announce it already - next version of Gemini (1.0.16) will present a huge performance improvement. I have managed to optimize database access, I think you will like it.
I am wonder if anybody uses the new Voice Widget in Gemini ? Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

New release (1.0.16) is ready to download from Android Market.
I will appreciate any feedback regarding the performance improvements in this version.
Do you still have speed issues ?

Powell - tried voice widget but can't get my head round the use of it since it requires you to predetermine date and time before naming event? Great concept though if you can get it to add a complete event.
PS Need to update your website with tips and tricks for the new widgets etc. but thanks as usual for being responsive and glad to see you're available direct from Android Market now.
The speed improvement is great! Not like some you barely notice. This is like going from a dark room to outside at noon on a clear day.
I strongly agree with this. Even on my ancient droid eris, moving between months now flies.
I have looked for a video of your new voice capabilities. Am back to using the free version since my original phone died and I will get a new one within a few months.
Have you tried using the dragon api for voice recognition as an alternative to Google's? The API is free and the functionality is available to licensed users of the FlexT9 keyboard. In my experience nuance's recognition is better than Google's. It looks easy to use the api and decide based upon a configuration setting which engine to use (at runtime).
Getting to grips nicely with the Gemini calendar, good work.
Would it be possible to have displayed on the 4x widgets the day of the week too?
For example instead of this:
07 10:20a eye Clinic (Erin)
It would say this:
Mo 07 10:20a eye Clinic (Erin)
Just another 2 Chars, but very useful.
Also in the calendar itself, can we have the ability to define when the week numbers begin? (Companies often use points other than Jan 01 to determine week one)
I'll keep adding posts as I think of other things.

Is there currently any sort of 'toast' notification? I'd love to be able to define a period (lets say 1 hr) before the scheduled event where I get a toast popping up on screen with the details of said event on it. (toast is a pop up notification box you can't miss as it appears over everything else)
'Poker Night' Surreptitiously Appears on Gemini Calendar
Hi all!!
As the title says, somehow, "Poker Night", covering 2 days, has appeared on my registered version of Gemini Calender.
I sure as hell didn't add it as an event and every time I try to delete or edit the event, I can't as the event is 'read only'.
Incidentally, the event does appear on my web-based Google Calendar. However, I still can't delete it. Also, when I click on the event, an email address appears at the bottom of the event, with another email address as an attendee. Neither one rings a bell.
Can any kind soul shed some light on this, specifically with a solution as to how to delete the event, as it is driving me crazy. I have 'Googled' this anomaly, with no success.
One last thing. If this issue has been addressed earlier in the thread, I apologize for not reading the whole thread, as I am disabled and it would have taken me an eternity.
TIA

Love the app and would just like to make 2 feature requests and it would be great if you could implement them:
- Ability to add guests to events
- Option (as in, you can turn it off and still have it the way it is now for those that want to) for when editing the date of an event, when you scroll up eg. on the day of 31/12/2011 it goes to 1/1/2012 instead of 1/12/2011 (and vice versa with down). I would find that really handy and it works well with the way that dates are input as a continuous scroll up or down.
Just updated my android HTC Desire with a software update (2.29.405.14) and it seems to have affected my calendar entries. I don't add events to the calendar which is synced with Google, I just store them locally on the phone (the "PC Sync" calendar, I think it is), but now I can't see non-repeating entries any more - yes, I can't see any one-off events I entered, but I can still see events which repeat.
I supposed that the software update has changed the interface to the stock calendar, so I tried the stock calendar as well and it's the same, so somehow the entries may well have been deleted.
Anyone else seen this? Any idea if the entries are still there and a fix to Gemini will sort it, or are they gone for ever?
Update: It might be a display issue. I have a calendar for UK Holidays which I subscribe to on my Google account, and it's contents are shown in Gemini but as read-only. That calendar is still in Gemini's "My Calendars" list, and is ticked (I tried unticking it and ticking it again), but none of it's entries are shown either. Since it's read-only, it's entries can't have been deleted!
Also, I added a new, non-repeating event and it shows up ok.
Update 2: It *is* a display issue. I deleted a new event that I had added, and suddenly all the previously-entered events appeared, from both my PC Sync calendar and the imported holidays one. There were events from the disappearing set on the same day as the one I added then deleted, don't know if that's relevant.
I tried restarting my phone to see if it's something to do with a restart with the current android OS, and events appear as normal. Perhaps it's only on a system update restart somehow?

New version of Gemini Calendar is ready in the Android Market. It basically introduces the compatibility with Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich), no new features this time.
New features are coming soon, I hope.
I will address questions and problems that came up in this thread lately in the near future.
You can always reach me at email, of course.
Yea! Got my gemini calendar back! I love my Galaxy Nexus but alternative calendar apps were just not meeting my needs like gemini calendar. No comparison once you have used this app. Thanks Powell!
Noticing one minor problem with the app now that it works with ICS...when the reminder goes off and you click to dismiss it, it doesn't dismiss. You have to reboot your phone to get it off the taskbar. Odd quirk.
Never mind...problem fixed. App is perfect again. Thank you!

1. You create a voice widget, that will act as a shortcut, with predefined parameters, like the time of saving voice event. You can select the desired, general time determiners, like "today, tomorrow" etc. and the hour and minute of the future voice events.
2. Then you can use a predefined widget to add a voice events by just saying something. The event will be stored in the calendar at the selected time. No need to enter/dictate the time and other parameters.
In other words, widget will spare you entering (or dictating by voice) the complicated parameters like hour, minute, date - instead, you use a predefined, general time determiners.
What is the benefit of such widget ? Well, think that you drive a car every day. When you commute, you can save new events for future reference (memos), these events can be reviewed after you are back home.
Hope it explains the matter. I will make a video presentation describing the Voice Widget in the near future.

The voice widget is awesome. Now that you've explained it, I've used it twice today while on the road. I've got a business & personal one that syncs with my various calendars.
One business event was prompted by a customer call I received while driving & the personal one was an email I received (again while driving) regarding a website I maintain for the Elks.
Both issues didn't need to be entered in my calendar immediately, but the voice widget puts them on the appropriate calendar to remind me when I get home tonight.
Being able to change the calendar associated with an appointment is still a very desirable feature. I don't believe that any other calendar in the android market can do this. And it is clear (because of the appointment cut and paste capabilities) that you have already written most of the necessary code for moving appointments to a different calendar.
You could make this feature only for paid users :-)
I can't even imagine what you might improve but I am really looking forward to finding out. I just love this calendar. Anyone who says another one is better hasn't given this one a real try.
love the calendar by far the best on i've tried so far. would it be possible to add icons to the days or change and add dots (like the red dot above the date) i would like to be able to see at a glance that all the days with a green dot, i did this, ones with a red dot, i did this. that would make it easier looking back and not having to go day by day. to see what i did. if you look at jorte it allows you to add icons to the day, so if i have practice, i could put a football/baseball icon ect... if i drove a truck at work i could put a truck icon. on paydays i could put a dollar sign or a pic of money. i know your space is limited so might be hard but that would make it perfect for me. also is it possible to have a list view of only the days that have something and an export option to print.
As a side note:
Right now, I am receiving a tons of emails from users, who think that sending registration request is enough to obtain a free application (they never paid for Gemini, they just want to check if I notice this). This slows everything down a little, but hey, I am not complaining.
Keep in touch, as always.

Please take no offense Powell, but I'm posting this screenshot for anyone who wants the old icon back. They can crop this screenshot & suck out the original icon with their favorite photo editor to get the original Gemini logo back.
No offense at all. I am surprised that users liked the old icon so much, I will probably change the the current icon to something else when the new skin for Gemini is ready.
Here is the old icon, you may use it if you want (and know how to):
