Default Google Maps without the Internet

Hi,

I have an existing Maps app that I overlay custom geo-ref'd images onto. This all works fine. I want to re-use the same app in a very low bandwidth situation however.

I still need some connectivity however, so I need to turn off the background internet-fetching that Maps performs. Can this currently be done? Or at least change the fetching schema.

If not directly supported, possibly via overriding com.google.android.maps classes?

thanks.
