Default How Serious is BlackBerry's Free Playbook Offer?

Hello all,

I recently heard about BlackBerry's offer of a free Playbook tablet to developers who repackage their android apps for the Playbook and submit them to BlackBerry App World by February 13. Up front, it sounds great, even if the Playbook does suffer from a somewhat lackluster reputation. Still, I'm wondering how seriously to take it, given that they can deny you a free device unless they feel your app will be "of reasonable demand." There are also some less significant restrictions that disqualify obvious shovelware.

I'm a novice developer, any thoughts on this from you more experienced folks? I would like a Playbook, warts and all, but I'm wondering if it's really worth sinking the time given the risk of having my app declared ineligible.

Steve

PS: I hear they ran this promotion when the Playbook first came out, anyone remember how that went for developers?

Hard to say for sure. But I guess an easy way to think about it: dont put so much time into it that you end up paying more.

Say you value your time at $50/hr and the playbook cost $100, it might not be worth it to spend much more than a few hours of time on it.

I've submitted to become a BlackBerry Vendor, but they haven't gotten back about it. You need to send them a way to verify that you are a real person.
They say to have the apps in by Feb. 12ish, but I'm not even sure I'll be approved by then. Like alostpacket said, if it turns out that all of this is just a waste, I'll just stop, but for now, I'm going to be putting all of my Android apps on the BlackBerry App World.

EDIT:
I JUST got my vendor approval email.
