Default Testing sites and services

I have an android app that I want to beta-test.

I’ve posted in the Alpha & Beta Testing forum, but looking at other posts, there’s not a lot of feedback. Or does it mostly come by PM?

Meantime, I’ve looked at Android testing sites. Overview… it seems to be an immature niche, a search doesn’t throw up any clear market leaders.

Here’s a list, with some comments. (Comments are tentative – I’ve looked at these sites, but not used them.) Most are intermediaries – farming out reviews, rather than doing them in-house. Any pointers would be appreciated. Especially, any warnings about sites with lots of pirates, or sham reviewers.

TheBetaFamily The Beta Family - iPhone, iPad, and Android app beta testing Appears in searches. Some following on FB and Twitter. Many apps posted

AppAssured QA Testing Service for Mobile App Developers - AppAssured | We Cover Your Apps $500 minimum. No FB/twitter presence? Targeted at small companies, not indies & home devs? In-house testing.

MobileLabs Mobile Labs Inc. | Mobile App Testing for HP QuickTest Professional In-house testing, automated process. No prices posted? Targeted at small companies, not indies & home devs?

Pay4bugs Software Testing, QA Outsourcing - Software Testing Services by Pay4Bugs “Crowdsourced Software Testing”, from $20/month, focussed on bugs, not qualitative feedback on app? Small following on FB/twitter.

UTest Software Testing | uTest Claims “world's largest marketplace for software testing services”. You have uTest project-manager who value-adds, testing/reviewing is outsourced? Offerings include many types of test. Pricing is behind a contact-details-wall. Not just mobiles apps, but software and websites. Thousands following on FB/twitter.

Apphance uTest | Apphance Is a tool sold by UTest.

ReviewForDev iOS app beta test and app reviews for developers | ReviewForDev iOS only?

ElusiveStars https://www.elusivestars.com/ Very new? FB presence, but few posts. March-May 2012, one in November. Twitter @elusivestars has posts restarting mid December 2012.

Please regard all these comments as personal opinions based on websurfing.

Well, that was interesting. No feedback at all, so I tried three test sites: posting in the Phandroid "Alpha & Beta Testing" forum, ElusiveStars, and TheBetaFamily.

ElusiveStars gave me five reviews within 24 hours, and cost $20. TheBetaFamily and the Testing forum cost nothing but time, and gave me zero reviews. It's now five days later, and there may be reviews to come in yet. TheBetaFamily review period hasn't finished.

The reviews from ElusiveStars were useful, and (by Western payrates) represented more time than you'd expect for $4 each. According to the SIM info, the reviews were from: USA, Netherlands, India, Croatia, USA.

ElusiveStars advertises $2 per review. I asked for ten, and have so far received five. Even so, I'm happy with the service - I got reviews quickly and cheaply, and the reviewers had clearly given more than a cursory look at the app. One said they'd looked at comparable apps on the app store.
