Default Multitouch Pinch Zoom Browser for 2.0

Title says it all. The Droid needs a multitouch browser.

I think all the Android handsets should have Multi-touch! Not just the Droid

It would be Nice to have this feature but in all Honesty it's not a Die hard feature where the phone is useless without it , The Good news is the European version of the Droid "the Milestone" showed a video where Pictures in the Gallery was able to Zoom in and out via Multi-touch pinching.

Hopefully 2.0 will feature full Multi-touch support in the near future! Maybe it was made sort of available in the European version because of licensing issues in the United States?

hopefully the milestone browser will be easy to transfer to the droid. I am also hoping the Sony Rachael UI can be ported.

Apple has patented the technology and has trademarked the term "Multi-Touch". Google originally planned to support Multi-Touch capability in the early versions of Android, but disabled it on release to not piss off Apple (but the code was still there under the covers, and hackers found a way to expose it).

It seems like the trend is moving towards Android phones supporting it, though. Some phones like the HTC Hero have a special build of the software that supports the feature, right?

The Android 2.0 API has been released, so the answer to the question "does Android 2.0 officially support Multi-Touch" should have a definite answer. But, I don't know that answer yet. Anyone else know? I suspect the answer is "no", because I haven't seen anything in the API's so far, and if it were supported, why hasn't it been heavily advertised on the droiddoes.com website?

If it's not supported in 2.0, I hope it's supported in "2.1".

So, everyone, what are some cool apps that could take advantage of Multi-Touch? I've thought about writing a "trumpet" app, similar to the iPhone's flute app, where you can play your phone as a trumpet by blowing into it, where the three valves combined with some other aspect (the incline of the phone? the strength of the breath? configurable?) determines which note is played.

Any other cool ideas?

Actually, it appears to me that Android 2.0 does support multi-touch, at least to some degree!

See:
Android 2.0 Platform Highlights | Android Developers

Under the section "Android Virtual Keyboard", it mentions: "The framework's multi-touch support ensures that key presses aren't missed while typing rapidly with two fingers."

Regarding Browser zoom, that same webpage says that Android supports double-tap zoom. It doesn't mention using multi-touch for zooming. But the platform clearly supports multi-touch for improved key entry, as I pointed out earlier. How mysterious.

Maybe Google doesn't want to piss off Apple, so they are slowly easing their way into multi-touch. Heheh.

Im working on an app using 2.0 that offers photo viewing, pinch zoom was VERY easy to add there. 1.6 and earlier didnt track multiple touch events in the official sdk, so no go. The web browser uses native code for drawing, so you either have to build the browser from scratch or do what it looks like the Dolphin browser is doing (looks like it uses the pinch gesture to call the normal zoomIn/zoomOut in rapid succession, which is cool but not quite pinch zooming. Love that app though).
