This is Linux... we aught to be able to write android apps from within android... its a developers OS after all

Just root the phone, and install an XServer to it, and a big monitor, and a keyboard. Than install eclipse.

Oh wait, a desktop linux computer would be cheeper and faster

Can you actually put eclipse on original rooted?

He was being facetious, totally useless comment IMO.

But, the practicality behind this is close to 0 unless you've got an Android Tablet, which I still think would be quite difficult.

This is an intriguing idea, and I am getting a tablet soon, I'm going to put a little bit of time into this, but don't expect anything from me, I'm just acknowledging the idea for now, sorry I'm not of help, but this hasn't been made able to be done yet.
