Default Spirit box

Hello- I have a great idea for an app that may help with the Paranormal Research field. Basically the App will use some phones built in FM Radio Tuner to scan the channels non stop to make the device into a valuable ITC Device (Instrumental TransCommunication). The app should work the same as a "Franks Box" or "Spirit Box". Anyone familiar with watching Ghost Adventures or has thier own group should be very familiar with this concept and it has proven to be very valuable in my own investigations with my group (S.H.I.T) Spirit Haunting Investigation Team. If anyone is interested in making this App into a reality I have a feeling it could help the Paranormal field greatly. I am not sure exactly if there are any hardware types that may hinder this from working, either certain chipset etc. Anyone who would like to chat, I have a dell Streak 5 and I would love to be the first Tester! Much appreciated and I hope the Devs give this a shot! I await replies eagerly

I don't think all Android devices come with a built-in FM Radio Tuner. Also a first glance through the SDK documentation does not have an API for radio tuner. Possibly can only be done by rooting or via un-documented API.

my Streak is rooted. and I was able to get its hidden fm chip to work by using spirit radio app. There must be some way to to have it at a set rate to scan through the channels? I will do some digging and see if I can come up with finding the API which calls that function.

I know this is an old thread now, but did anyone have any joy with this?
I've had a look into Google's app inventor and there is no funcionality for fm radio.

Surely there MUST be a way though. I haven't done programming for years now, but surely if there is a source code for a radio frequency scanner, it is as simple as telling it to pick a frequency, play it for 20ms, find a new frequency.

The actual principle behind the spirit box is so simple that it should be easily possible!

I have been searching for a way to get my android to do this. We do investigations a lot and it would help to have a spirit box.

Since my post here a few weeks ago I decided to delve into the realms of programming it myself.

It seems that for one, a lot of phones aren't able to recieve over the air FM (like a radio, without using data) and the ones that can do it, the building blocks to make such apps are only available through reverse engineering current apps. I've managed to get hold of the ones for my s2 but there is no documentation on it what so ever :/

I'm going to keep trying at this cause as soon as I actually manage to get a working code to get the radio making noise, the rest is simple.
