Notepad app with a *right* content complexity
I have been examining various 'notepad' apps, including (the non-commercial versions of) commercial ones, each of which with its own strong features.
(The following are some of the apps I looked at: Evernote, Mobisle Notes, ColorNote, Note Everything, Tomdroid notes, Google Docs, NoteSync, Catch Notes, Epistle, FreeNote.)
Let me explain the kind of feature I wish to put forward.
Some apps do support, in addition to normal text, contents of 'special' types, such as:
- hand-written text,
- hand-drawn image, handset-taken photo, image file,
- voice input, sound file,
- video input, video file.
But only a few of them support including these within one unit of writing (a 'note', or an 'article'). And even fewer support placing these special objects at an arbitrary position. (In fact FreeNote was the only app the author could find, supporting it in some approximating sense.)
Finally, the apps which support the last don't seem to have the point of view put so far by this post, resulting unsurprisingly in (from our point of view) an incomplete feature and an inconvenient interface.
Note that this is not a look for a full-featured word processor; it is just the feature of making a note possibly including only those objects that are naturally and simply obtainable using a mobile device. But on the other hand this is something powerful and new, as many of these objects were not *naturally and simply* obtainable using legacy devices such as a PC.
I think it would be nice if this feature would be present in a notepad app with other good features, such as:
- categories (some notepad programs call these 'notebooks'), maybe tags
- auto-sync with preferably Google Docs (of course the file format of a general 'note' in such an app wouldn't be a plain text; I would say some xml-based open & transparant one)
- database backup
- html export / emailing of notes
- etc
Could some developer take the initiative? I think actually Google should make one, as this writing feature of 'the degree just right for a smart device' would fit well into their other apps (gmail, google docs, etc) and make their suite more complete.
