Default BuzzOff: An excellent app for the absent minded

There are few things more frustrating than silencing your phone in a movie or meeting, and then finding out later in the day that you missed an important phone call or message because you forgot to restore the ringer. That is where BuzzOff comes to the rescue. This app will allow you to put your phone into silent (or vibrate mode) for a specified amount of time after which it will revert back to ringer (or ringer+vibrate) mode. In addition to time-based restoration of the ringer, the app also allows for the ringer to be restored after you have moved a certain distance (specified in yards or miles) from your current location.

Time-based restoration works very well, but I have found that the location-based restoration is a bit hit and miss. This is most likely due to an inability to establish an accurate GPS location when indoors. To improve this, I find it handy to activate the app outside the theater (or any other building) where there is a clear view of the sky. In this way I have found the location-based control of the ringer to be much more reliable and have used it successfully several times.

Overall this is very well polished app that works reliably to restore your ringer in a time or location-based manner. In contrast to other location-based apps, such as locale, I find it much easier to use and less of a strain on the system. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is in and out of meetings all day.
