Pokédroid - Pokédex

*** UPDATE 2 *** Pokédroid will be removed from the Android Market shortly. A legal representative of The Pokémon Company has responded to me via email. He has confirmed that TPC would like Pokédroid, and all similar apps, to be removed from the Android Market. TPC's stance is apparently that they don't want any Pokédex or Pokémon-related apps at all for the Android platform. They feel that such apps infringe upon their copyrights and compete with the print versions of their strategy guides. While I disagree with this decision, which I believe is detrimental to the interests of both Pokémon fans and TPC alike, I have decided to comply with their request. Thus, henceforth I will cease all development on Pokédroid and remove it from the Android Market. When this page goes down, please visit my site (www.nolanlawson.com) for more information. I will _not_ host the APK there. It has been a pleasure to serve the Pokémon community. I hope you had as much fun using Pokédroid as I had writing it. - Nolan *** UPDATE *** Pokédroid might be removed from the Android Market due to a copyright claim by The Pokémon Company. Many Pokédex apps were already removed, including Pokédroid Donate. I am currently trying to contact The Pokémon Company in order to get permission to keep Pokédroid (and similar apps) on the Market. I'll post updates as the situation develops. *** Didn't you ever wish you had a real talking Pokédex, just like Ash Ketchum in the TV show? I'm 25 and I still do. Well, now it's finally here! Search by voice, and this unofficial Pokédex will read the description aloud (in Android 1.6+ only). Version 1.4 includes an update for Pokémon Black/White. You can use the Game Version setting to toggle between newer and older games. Enjoy! Tips for new users: - Long-press on a cry to save it as a ringtone or notification. - Swipe left and right on a Pokémon's page to browse through the list of Pokémon. - Long-press on a move to see Pokémon that learn that move. - The "Moves" section of Advanced Search is basically an Attackdex. You can search by attack name and sort by power, accuracy, type, etc. - Tap a sprite to toggle shiny. - The "Text-to-Speech Locale" setting lets you toggle the Pokédex voice between American and British accents. - You can search Pokémon right from your home screen! Go to About > Add-ons > Search Widget for more info. - Most of the data is provided by Marriland, so thank him by going to his site! http://pokemon.marriland.com seo: pokemon, pokedex, pokedroid Recent changes: 1.5.2 - New intro message 1.5.1 - Fix for some reported FCs 1.5 - BASIC Black/White locations added. I know some legendaries/starters/etc. are missing, but I will add them later. - Locations and moves in dropdown menus. Content rating: Everyone... Read More

Default Pokédroid - Android Pokédex!: A Pokedex even Ash would use!

Blast of nostalgia, anyone? With so many fans, It was bound to happen sometime, and thank god it did. Pokedroid is a Pokedex and info app for the android operating system with all the features you could ever ask for, all for free!

When you first open Pokedroid you are greeted with a very attractive interface. All the Pokemon from every generation to date are in perfect scrolling order. Just as you see it on the original Pokedex, 001-493, all there accompanied by the Pokemon's type and a small picture icon of the Pokemon. Search by name or number! Did I mention it had voice search? Works well too.

But this isnt what impressed me the most, the real backbone of this app comes after you actually click on a pokemon from the list and view it. All the information you could ever want is laid out about each and every Pokemon; height, weight, a description, base stats, abilities, egg groups, gender ratio, hatch steps, type advantages, evolutions, moves, the list goes on. It is fantastic and it doesnt end there. You will notice a little speaker icon at the top right of the screen. Upon clicking this, the phone will read out to you the info about the Pokemon. Its just like having a real Pokedex in the palm of your hand. Who knew android could double as a Pokedex, right? Im not going to lie, I use this regularly now while playing Heart Gold on my DS and even while playing Pokemon on the Gameboid emulator. Its a handy tool, and its one ill be keeping for a while.

Now lets talk about additional features and settings (as if the app wasn't good enough already). If you're observant and thinking to yourself "Ok, so Pokemon icon, name, and type. Great. Now whats that star I keep seeing?". Well, reader, that star is actually a favoriting feature. That's right, got a few favorite Pokemon? Favorite them. Everyone has got their favorite Pokemon; this feature was a very smart move, which indicates that the developer is on his toes and listening. On that note, it is appropriate for me to mention Add-ons. And this app has them. Granted, at the moment it only has one add on, its still a positive sign and says great things about the developer once again.

The Add-on can be found under "Pokedroid Extras" in the market and it adds the Pokemon's footprints and Pokemon "cries". More to love! Cant argue with that. It is, however, a 5.45 MB add on. So that is something to keep in mind.

Conclusion? So there you have it. Pokedroid for the android. Its a Pokedex that even Ash himself would use. What have you got to lose? Its free! Sure to bring back nostalgia, fun, and maybe motivate you to pick up your old Pokemon game again. Must have for any pokemon lover. 5 star app if I ever saw one.
