Does anybody know how readily available the 101 might be in stores? I'm going away the 23rd and if this thing is released the 18th it will not deliver to me in time if i pre- order it so i am hoping i can just walk up to a store and grab one... Also what stores might be carrying them?
Anyone that already has the Archos 70 .... How many memory has it, 256Mb,512Mb or 1Gb?
Also, is the camera VGA or 1.3 M pixel? Is the quality of the camera good?
Please, let me know.... thanks

actually just returned my 70. Nice little unit, but that bezel was a fingerprint magnet x100 and it ejected my 16gb card somewhere, and it's nowhere to be found. The card slot was definitely a bit wonky on mine. In the end though, it wasn't enough of an upgrade (if that's the right word) to my Epic for casual use. Actually going to play with a 9" fujitsu tablet notebook for a bit and let the dust settle with the tablets. Made me realize there isn't really a rush to buy one of these unless I was an Apple junkie which is so not the case.
I'll wait till there is a seamless solution like the Lenovo lepad

damn that was fast. the 8 is now grayed out like the 16 was when i first saw them available. I guess a LOT of people wanted 16s, or there were only a few...?
any word yet on when amazon will be shipping them? I pre ordered mine but i can't find any info anywhere on an actual street date. Everyone says the 20th or 19th but thats today or tom and you would think that there would be more hoopla if so.
Since the native resolution is 1024x600, that's should match the netbooks native size so i don't have to keep scrolling around like i'm doing with the ipod right now.
Having an OS basically means you can port an application between devices. Hopefully it'll run on the Archos too. He did say it worked with his Nokia 5800. Which i happened to have.
I've come to the conclusion that i cannot see anymore of your videos. It drives me insane seeing them and knowing I can't get this device any sooner than expected. Resist i will.
In all seriousness, seeing those vids is making me once again undecided between the 70 and 101. Damn I hate this flip flopping.
Why couldn't Archos make a 101 with a harddrive and BT with a bit more ram so that Gingerbread is doable down the line. Oh well. Leaning toward the 101.

The 101 is strictly for indoor use. There is no way I can take it out in public without looking like a total geek (speaking from experience).
I think you will see more and more people walking around with tablets eventually.
I'd view it more like you are "cutting edge". It's acceptable and good to be wearing the latest fashions (in the minds of "popular" or "attractive" people) so what's so bad about walking around with the latest technology? People that say you look dumb or ask, "whats the point? there's laptops and phones already" are too narrow sighted to see practical benefits of carrying around even a 10 inch tablet device.
If you have good reasons to use it, I don't see anything wrong with taking it with you. I look at it and think, "look at all the books and paper it replaces". That's gotta be good for the environment and easier for the user.

Yeah I'll be taking my 70 with me a lot, and it's kinda like carrying a book with you in some ways, as it has the Kindle app and Android Comic Viewer. I just gotta find out if I'm gonna start carrying around a backpack or what.
Does anyone know when the 101 is going to become available for good? Also whats the real differences between the 101 and 70? The larger screen of the 101 appeals to me while the 70 seems like it may be more practical to through in a backpack. Is the 70 too small?

For the most part the difference is the screen size. The 70 is a perfect size IMO if you wanna take it somewhere, whereas the 101 is good for leaving in your living room or on your nightstand. Most of the stats are the same though. They're all on Archos.com if you wanna look.
I have read all about them and am having a tough time deciding between the two. I definitely think portable is what I am after....although not so portable I might as well just use my cellphone. The one thing I really like about the 101 is that it has a full size usb port. Is there a good way around that with the 70? I would like to be able to tether with my Eris without rooting it.
Anyone in australia gotten one of the 70 or 101 yet? I saw a brochure for Vodafone wireless internet today and noticed a $150 for 12Gb for 356 day expiry (as opposed to 30 day expiries on all other offers) which seem pretty damn good for an Australian provider. That's 1Gb / month of wireless mobile internet for about $13/month.
Most people from other countries will laugh that I said that, but this is the situation in Australia that that offer seems rather appealing to me. Most home internet connections you aren't getting change from $70 for internet cost and phone line.
Wondering if the Archos (or any other Android tablets) will work wih these full size USB 3G modems? They're hte sort you usually plug into a laptop to get mobile internet. Never used or had one personally so I don't know how it interfaces with laptops or anyting really.
Any word on the 101 becoming available? It looks like some people have seen it available on the Archos site but i have not been so lucky to catch it in time... ALSO why the delay? Is there something wrong with this thing? Did they not make enough? Is Archos holding it back to send it to us with 2.2(Because their website does say 2.1 with available update late nov)? WHATS GOING ON ARCHOS??? By the way, im a big fan of archos products and yet i have never even seen one physically. They just look so damn good haha. Cheers to you all!!!!
So how many of you out there that pre-ordered from Archos.COM got your orders? Im STILL waiting on Archos.CA to GET theirs, before even sending mine out, and im getting a little tired of waiting. Its not a manufacturing thing now...

I ordered mine from Archos.com. It isn't here yet but it is track-able. It will be here Wednesday (I was too cheap to upgrade the shipping or it would've been here today).
I you seach archos 101 on amazon.com, it is there but preorders must be sold out. I had one (16gb) ordered from there (and compusa and jr.com) but cancelled the others once I got shipping confirmation from archos.
Looks like all the pre-orders are sold out. That's ok I guess, as I'd prefer to wait until Archos releases the A101 with Froyo. And it looks like Archos is hopefully trying to get this right, instead of releasing something that's not quote ready for prime time.
Now I'm having second thoughts about this Archos tablet. I hear that once Froyo is released for it, there won't be any other OS updates. Now I realize this is a $300-$350 device, but a 10" Android tablet that won't get Android's upcoming tablet OS?
My income isn't disposable enough to get the latest and greatest when something new comes out, so I'd like to get something that's going to be future OS upgradable. Has anyone heard anything about any other 10" Android tablets coming out? I know about the Viewsonic G tablet, but it loses out to the Archos 101, and upgradability is also in question.

Honestly, at this point in the game, we dont know when 3.0 will be out, and if it will even support devices like this, let alone our devices supporting it.
I wouldnt sweat it. Either buy something now, and enjoy it, and dont worry about having the latest OS (its not going to Break just because something new comes out) if you cant afford to play the game - or wait indefinietly as there will always be something better "in the works"

Well, eBook reading (and the Kindle app) is one of the main reasons I'd get a tablet. Current reports of the A101 show that it has problems with the Kindle app getting cutting off at the bottom, because the A101 uses soft control keys instead of the hardware keys that's on our phones. But I don't know for sure if this is an issue with the Kindle app, or the 101 software.

sounds like its an easy software fix, as long as amazons dev. feel like tackling it.
that's a problem with the 101 firmware, but they will probably fix it as they have already released several firmware patches.
2.2 was released today, but it doesnt have flash built in yet, they will release another version soon with an optimised version of flash built in supposedly.
2.2 broke the market hack as well, but the devs are almost done creating a new version already.

HAha Awesome
cant wait to get mine! I got a tracking number for HotMp3gear so now im just waiting for UPS to get it into their system so i can watch it come to me! then the hacking shall start!
After reading the A101 forum on archosfans.com, I decided to pass on this model even with the Froyo update. My next tablet contender is the Notion Ink Adam.
Got mine on Friday. Rooted it, used SetCPU to take it back to 1000MHz. Installed ADW.Launcher and Google apps/market. Played with it all weekend.
Sent it back on Monday.
It's slow. I think Archos really screwed up by only including 256MB RAM, as it always seems like it's running out of headroom. The screen is jerky. Nothing is particularly fluid or works smoothly. Returned it and bought the Viewsonic, which is MUCH better.
