Text messaging requires voice telephone access. The Archos 70, to the best of my knowledge, does not have a phone. You might be able to use a third party app like Google Voice but it requires Internet access and isn't something that I've ever tried to do.

There are apps like textplus, and textfree that can work. I have no need so I haven't tried them.

google voice, you may have to use titanium backup from another phone to get it to work..

for instance, on my g tablet the gv would fail when trying to set my voicemail (because the g tab isn't a phone) however when i backed up from my droid and restored with titanium backup i was able to "skip" the voicemail settings and it works fine.. i'm assuming the same would be true with the archos..

The updated Google voice works without having to use titanium backup on my. Gtablet. Just setup your gv line and on ur tablet skip the voicemail set up part and your all set to go.
