Default Archos 7" 800x480 tablets

I've noticed a few Archos and Arnova 7" 16x9, 800x480 resolution tablets have the same display fault as the Scroll Excel (and other OEM, Corby etc.) in that they compress all images vertically (or stretch horizontally) this is because, unless compensation is made, a 800x480 screen is 15x9 so if the actual screen ratio is 16x9 the pixels are non-square.

The HTC Desire Z has a 800x480 screen but is physically 15x9 so Android elements display correctly, circles are circular, and 16x9 videos show in a mask top and bottom, again correctly.

The easy way to see if a display is correct is to look at the circular apps icons, Browser, Clock, Downloads and Music with the tablet horizontal, then vertical. In vertical they look egg shaped.

It's also very noticeable looking at a portrait pic horizontally then vertically. Horizontally the face looks to have gained pounds, vertically it's lost them, but neither is obviously a true representation.

If there isn't a fix for this these tablets should never have been marketed.
