Can I still root my Aria after update 2.2 Official
I didn't root or do anything yet with my ARIA. Now we have the 2.2 update official , I know that we can root the 2.1 Android ARIA.
I am not sure if we can still use the same method to root the ARIA after update 2.2 FROYO
No, if you install the AT&T Froyo update, you will not be able to root your Aria. Best option is to root now while you still have Android 2.1 and then go over to XDA Developers and install the Liberated Aria FR008 ROM. This is ROM is a fully rooted version of the HTC Sense Froyo 2.2 without the AT&T bloatware. It has all of the Froyo features that the AT&T version.
It's my understanding that the AT&T update contains a change to the boot code to make it resistant to rooting. If you want to root, don't install the official update(s) that have been made available by AT&T.

Yeah but who can be bothered waiting. I need my optus ota 2.2 cracked but clockmod only worked for me on 2.1. Who do we gota send money to to get this show on the road? I got the roms, ruus, and imgs, if this helps.
spent days attempting to root, finally got revok'd to work after enabling dbug and default usb to charge only, as per the guide on xda-dev's. Trouble is in the process silly me upgaded firmware to 2.2.2
Not really concerned as the phones not much good in asia-pacific as it doesnt run on 2100.
but it would be good to root this sucker. please, "bump" from above post, if anyone can fast trak this please let me know.

You are the man aria777. I just got my aria not to long ago due to the whole AT&T buying out Unicel stock with 2.2.2. I bumped into a few posts on other sites so I knew I was gonna have a mess of stuff to deal with before the root, like the hboot s is on and the firmware had to be downgraded to 2.1. everything went smooth your explanation was really clear step by step. now its time to flash new ROM.

I had a problem at the part when I have to run the update you used at the the end of the guide, but I keep having the problem when I run it, it wont see the bootloader and gives me an error 171 at the end. I know that I did something wrong, but don't know what. It wont pass the Bootloader.

Thanks for all your effort Aria777. My little Aria is now rooted; running 2.2, running faster, but seems to have "lost" some memory. I've been reading FAQs and looking up all sorts of interesting stuff, but as I'm probably ADD, every time I find a cool thread (NOT necessarily the one I was looking for) peeoooiiinggg! off I go, link to link to link. Fun, but my problem gets no closer to resolution. Since flashing the liberated ROM, I seem to have "lost" a good deal of memory. Are the partitions different? and therefore the mem allocation? I'm pretty much a noob here, but ya know... if there were a way (i'm closing in on it, but there are lots of links in the way) for me to know *precisely* where all that (is it 512mb?) ROM memory is and how much "extra" space might be needed within a partition for files to open maybe? store temp data? I just don't know... by assiduously reading the various fora, I'm beginning to understand that there's internal storage (the ROM) for the operating system and if I understand correctly this memory is partitioned? and just to confuse me one of the partitions is known as SD (!?!)... then there is the RAM which is just good ole RAM; then of course there *is* the ext. microSD up to 32mb. That part is cool. lots of space on even my 8gb card, but not too many apps want to hang out there (I've learned that widgets don't).
So. I used to (it certainly seems like) have a decent bit more of that internal memory that I could use for portions of programs (e.g., it looked like some apps like Pulse would load to internal, but when you coaxed it, would relinquish some (not all) of its grip on the precious, my precious internal, and load mostly on the microSD card. **1.Am I looney? Did I not have any more space before even with the ATT bloatware? 2. If I'm no looney, then can I somehow retrieve some of this ROM? **
I see where a couple of my apps list the "potential" phone memory as being about 185mb (of which of course somehow there's only 20 left *sigh* --- may i assume that the other ~326 mb are used for system processes and utilities, etc.? Or is there some I could get back by making smaller partitions or something?

I was following all the steps till I went to download the old ROM image for my Aria.

Download CWM 2.5.1.7 Off
Download Android Flasher

1- Extract Clockwork Recovery.zip to folder
2- Connect Phone with data cable then Run Android Flasher
3- Check box "Recovery" and click Begin
4- Navigate to Clockwork Recovery folder extracted earlier and select "Recovery.img" click Open
Follow the steps below to install Superuser permissions
How To Install Superuser Permissions
Restore Nandroid Backup...
-Download SU 2.3.6.1(See linky above)
-Copy SU_2361.zip to SD Card
-Boot into CWM Recovery
-Select Install Zip file from SD
-Select Choose Zip File
-Select SU-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip and confirm install
-Reboot and you now have SU in the App Drawer
Yep. I had 2.2.2 and used Revolutionary to get S-OFF (everything else failed there). I also had to go onto IRC where they told me to push down on the hole to make selections since doing that with the button on top wouldn't select for me.
Just do a search for it since I can't post links yet.
It's only a little harder than using SuperOneClick or something like that on other phones. Then you can load custom ROM's or get the Pro version of Titanium Backup and get rid of all of your crapware. Now this thing generates a key and you can't get one character wrong. Good Luck!
howdy im new here but recently i had to replace my Aria due to the screen was cracked all to hell now i cannot get this one rooted my last phone had 2.2.2 (i updated it) this one came installed the alpharevX is not working for me i put the serial in and it generates the beta code i try to put it in and it gets rejected ive tried every logical possibility (in case of typos mis-reads) nothing is there another method perhaps i can go with that has the same simplicity as the mentioned method that was the one i used last time now its no dice.

So, it already has S-off? if it has continue installing clockwork recovery and SU.
If not, try repeating the process(from ADB).
