Default Rooting an Orange UK Desire

Hi all,

I feel like I have read pretty much everything on the internet about rooting my phone, but I just wanted to be totally clear.

My computer is a Mac.
My phone is the HTC Desire on ORANGE (blaargh!)
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101

Erasethingy(?!) 40000.

So my questions are -

1) Is this possible on Orange phones without making a goldcard.. if no can I just use my existing SD or do i need a spare (i.e. 2 SD cards).

2) Do I just use the unrEVOked method, as that seems to be the most straight forward one?

I got in late December 2010. I want to get rid of all the Orange crapware and also upgrade it to Gingerbread... have it run faster, save internal memory etc. From my understanding I think rooting and flashing a custom ROM is the way forward for this. Also I have read SURoot FAQs.

One final thing - I am moving from England (UK) to New Zealand this September, so I think my warranty won't exist over there anyway so not that bothered about that, nor receiving Orange updates as I have to buy out my contract and crack on with a New Zealand based carrier.

Obviously I'm happy to provide any other info needed, but i might need help on how to find it!!

Help is REALLY appreciated!

Ben

I don't have any answers, and I'm not aware of the different phones, but is there a reason you posted this on a Aria forum instead of, say, one of the Desire forums?

The HTC Aria arrived as AT&T's second Android handset, though many more have come in its wake. The mid-range device packs the full Android experience into a small package with a style that only HTC could achieve. The Aria's 3.2-inch tou... Read More
