Cry ARIA USB device not recognized.

Me and my husband both have the HTC aria. My phone will connect, sync, everything with our laptop. When i tried my hubby's we get that the device is not found. So i looked at the properties on all the usb hubs and all say they are working normally. I've tried installing the drivers from HTC website, tried to sync with htc sync and all i ever get is device not recognized and the properties in the usb say there are no drivers for this device. We've tried using different cords and that hasnt worked. We did a factory reset and nothing. We've got the debugging set so it should just connect but wont. I'm pretty computer savy- using a tether from my phone for internet but i cant get his phone to connect for anything but to charge. HELP!!!
