I see the screen but it says update failed.....
Its flashing and and it says Firmware Update Step 1/2 unpacking
1) Place nandroid backup files into a directory on sdcard:
/nandroid/mem=211M/stock/
2) Boot into recovery (Send Call + Volume Up - while phone turns on)
3) Go to Backup/Restore.
4) Select Nand restore
5) Select mem=211M
6) Select folder named "stock"
7) Proceed with on screen instructions
Okay I put the 5 files on my sd card. I booted into clockwork mod and I pressed back and restore but there is no option for "nand restore". So I pressed "restore" and it says no files are found.
1)Attach phone to USB
2)Power Phone Off
3)Enter Fastboot (End Call + Volume Down - while phone turns on)
4)Run script relevant to your OS
metroPCSStock-linux.sh
metroPCSStock-mac.sh
metroPCSStock-windows.bat
5) Your phone will automatically reboot
pull your battery for 10 sec put battery back in and connect the usb cable and run metroPCSStock-windows. did extract the whole folder to your desktop?

you didn't flash cwm 2.1.5.8 right. it should be a black and green theme with Clokwork Mod 2.1.5.8 at the top and bottom in white text.
When I try to flash back to stock
from the zip file, I always get that the process is aborted. I am running cwm 3.x, should I be running the 2.x cwm? If so, I can't figure out how to successfully flash back to the older cwm. I have Cricket by the way. Thanks!

I did it a lil different. I took a nandroid backup n put all the files in a folder n named it stock. Then I put that folder in the CWM/backup/ folder, then just did a restore thru CWM like a normal. Worked for me and thats how we got LuLu back up and running, well almost, LuLu dl'ed the zip file I uploaded and did a install zip from sdcard. This method might be a lil easier for those who cant grasp installing the SDK's or to cheap to buy a usb card reader lol
I like your wiki, a few things on there I wanna check out

should be fairly straightforward.
check it out, let me know if you have any other questions about things!

there are definitely multiple ways to skin that cat.
glad everything is sorted out
quick question for ya pip, Can a ROM be compiled from a vmplayer *nix image?
if you mean running a rom like cm6-ascend or cm7-ascend in a vmplayer or any sort of virtual machine, no. best explaination i could give about why it wouldnt work is because the phones have a different type of processor (think mac (before the intel macs) vs intel). the ascend has an arm6.
now you could compile android to run in a virtual machine, that wouldnt run on the phones tho, only in a virtual environment. android supports MANY processors.
WOW i read that absolutely wrong....
i actually do all my compiling inside a virtual machine. i use VMware server 2.0 (it's free, just have to register)
the big thing to remember when compiling in a virtual machine is you need a bit of ram for the VM. i think google says 1.5Gb at least. otherwise the compile will take way toooo long. i dedicated 3Gb to my VM out of 6Gb. it takes meh 2 hours to compile from complete scratch. on a amd x2 6000 running windows 7

kewl, my laptop is a intel Dual proc. and my desktop is a AMD dual core, both have 4GB of RAM.
Just to make clarify lol, ROMs can be compiled on linux in a vm environment and dont have to be compiled on the phone (I bet that would take forever lol), correct?
I use to mess with compiling kernels on my 2nd box all the time til I got lazy n then it died lol. But I never did any real coding, just uncheck all the stuff I didnt need lol.

correct!
heres my guide to compiling cyanogenmod (7), can be applied to 6 also, this uses debian without a gui. so if your not comfortable working in a linux command line, this guide may not be for you.
theres another guide based on using ubuntu (with a gui) on myascend.org (i've not tried it, but the author is very knowledgeable)

kewl. well I installed gentoo way back when gentoo didnt have a fancy nancy installer aka all by cmdline. I'm not no guru by no means but I get by lol. I love cmdline, just hadnt played in it much last few years.
Yea Ubuntu should be much diff since its based off Debian, tho debian isnt my most fav distro lol

okay so i used the z4root from marketplace. and am using clockworkmod recovery 3.0.0.5. downloaded froyo 2.2 zip, then attempted to install it from sd card while in the volume up +send+power button recovery boot screen.
even though i backed up the current rom, somehow i wiped the cache, entire sd card and pretty sure part of the os data.
now phone when u turn in on regularly boots up to white HUAWEI screen and stays there untill u pull battery. When i choose the find zip file on sd card in recovery screen it says "no files found". I cannot for the life of me figure out how to download these recovery stock files etc. from the computer, because when i link up the usb. it wont let me place any files to the device.
help me please

usb connect to the computer, u have to enable usb storage once the phone is hooked up (it should notify u). Slide the notification screen down n tap on the usb connected notice. Then a screen with the lil android on it should appear with a button to enable usb storage. Then drag n drop your files to the sdcard. Then boot into recovery n start again.
You will prolly need to pull the sdcard out n put in a card reader on your computer. If you dont have one, get one lol like $10 at walmart. There is a way to push files from the PC to the phone via ADB, but I'll let someone else explain that process lol
i am not able to flash my phone back to factory setting nor am i able to do the hard reset even though i have the zipfile downloaded to my sd card, plase help a guy out before he goes insane, it seems i have the same issues as ladya90 had, when i try to do the 3 button method i try both vol up and vol down. on the vol up method it says failed, when i do the vol down it just stays on the huawei screen......
thanks that worked until i got to the location consent page in the set up and it will not alllow me to pass that screen i know it might sound crazy but that is what is happening, i wiped it 3 times i didnt even do anything but root my phone originally i never added another ROM or anything i dont understand why the issues are moutning up
