I would. Just back up your sd card on to your comp and reboot into recovery go to advanced and select partition sd card. do 512mb and 32 swap. Once partitioned put your sd card into the comp move all your files back, put it back in the phone and reboot. If you flash the 3.0.2.8 recovery img when you make a back up it will back up all your apps on your ext also. Its also recommended that you have a class 4 or higher sd card. Partitioning it will take all your apps off the phone and put them on the sd and the swap will be used to free up RAM. You can also move all your dalvik to the sd which will free up even more room adn essentially make it faster.
If i leave in my sd card when i partition it will it format my card. I'm still new to this. Can the partition and swap be a step added when i flash to 912? If so when or after which step should i do it?

Yeah leave it in your phone and reboot into CWR and go to advanced and select partition sd card. The select 512 and 32 for swap.
So back up everything on your sd to your comp, partition it whihc will wipe and format it and partition it. Then either pull the battery out or if you have the 3.0.2.8 cwr go to power off then take out your sd card and put it in the comp move everything back to it, including 0912 and the gapps put it back in the phone wipe and format everything and then flash cm7 and the gapps and reboot.

Thank you so much PlayfulGod, I edited the mac address in the file you said and it worked perfectly!! I also have two guys at work with the same cm7 and we have to fight over the wifi, now I can change the mac addresses and solve all the problems. Again, thank you soooooo much!

Finally convinced the wife to let me play with her Ascend. Kickass ROM PG. Would the same fix for the screen animations for the OM work here. That would be kickass. Anyways TY yet again.

No offense to any. But by the time you release a build of 2.3.7 Gingerbread, Others and I will have a different phone; since the huawei ascend is getting old. I really don't see why you (PlayfulGod) try to make another build for the Ascend, yes it will be good but the builds already out is good as well. You should spend some time working on the LG Esteem up-coming ROMS.

I see where he is coming from. I loved my ascend but the roms slowed down I started getting bored. I love pgs roms though I even donated then a couple days later bought two evos and flashed to metro. I would love the esteem but kid and wife...... basically gotta wait till metro can lower handset prices.

I too am getting bored with the Ascend but I really can't afford a new phone right now and I think the Ascend is really as beefed up (ROM-wise) as its realistically gonna get. I want a new phone but not really feeling the prices of the "good" phones that metro offers right now... I see mteezey has evos that have been flashed to metro and that leads me to my question...
What is the fastest or most powerful phone right now that can be safely flashed to metro? Although almost anything is an upgrade compared to the ascend, if I'm gonna spend money on a new phone I want to move up a bit in the food chain, feel me?

Hey Gingerbread is my stop for ROMs for the Ascend. I already refuse to flash ICS on it if he built it and the src isnt even out. I think due to the hardware limitations on this phone it would ruin the ICS experience But theres other ways to ask or make a request for PG or anyone to build for another phone then "Hey you should ditch building for this phone community and build for this phone because Im upgrading to it"

aww that suxs i wont be changing my ascend till another year or so or not till march im kinda happy with wat the ascend has to offer as an android if anything this little ascend is awesome and is the best even tho u guys think its a shitty phone cause ur ascend lags or something but hey u gotta admit this phone can do things other phones cant but it would shurly suck if their is no more builds but yea if PG refuses to make more roms and continue on 2.3.7 then its ok i guess but it would suck but yea its all up to u guys

lol, the esteem is already on my project list, one is in the mail to me to dev with as I type this thanks to thevistor. I will still do stuff for the ascend, since I still have mine, but the focus may change somewhat for it. As in more customization of what we have for it or maybe my own lil twist on things.

well it would be lame to not continue roms for the ascend if its gonna be the last on then it should be the best of best rooms all the way like tht 2.3.7 can be the last if its able get the ics thing and maxed out on the OC and stuff u know plus tht new lockscreen

2.5.1.8 can be used just fine. Now if one wants to backup n restore sd-ext they need to use 3.0.2.8 isaac did or the 5.x I did.
Only reason icarus has to have 2.5.1.8 is because it uses amend (Old shyt) and edify (new shyt), and the newer CWM just do edify. And since icarus is 2.1 no one cares to convert it
i have a rooted ascend running 2.3.5 cm7(which i like very much) ,i have been browsing and experimenting several root apps and other apps from aptoide, (example:setCPU, ASTRO, UnZip, App Manager and several other apps) to try and enhance my ascend. im currently using v4.5.0.1 ROM Manager. recently my phone has benn randemly rebooting and loop booting, but when i take out my 8 gig sd card its fine but without my apps. it also works fine with a different sd card. how can i find out whats the cause of this mess? PLEASE somebody help
Try going back to stock and then reinstall. That's what I had to do

MMS should be working for Cricket users now (credits for the fix to adefa). It shouldn't be necessary to alter the APN list. CM7-Ascend - Prepaid Android

I see there are some people requesting the bump up to 2.3.7. TBH, there isn't anything special with 2.3.7 other than the number change. Most of the changes to CM7 (migration to 2.3.7) was for the officially supported devices (i.e. not the Ascend).
I think ICS would be hard to get on the Ascend. If you ignore the hardware limitations, the Ascend will have difficultly making the move up because it never saw an official GB release. I had a pretty hard time getting 2.3 on the Ascend. A lot of the stuff from 2.1/2.2 was used for CM7/2.3. That same stuff wouldn't work with ICS. I haven't seen the ICS source, so I can't say definitively.
