You will have to start from.square one again-choose your setup from the OP and have it. At least that way everything will be working correctly

Im talking about just starting from the first post in this thread (link is in my post up there ^^^^)-then going step by step to restore your phone.
Just takes a little time and patience but Toke's guide is really easy to follow(even I can do it)

You can actually unzip the gapps and copy/paste the talk.apk into the system/app folder using root explorer.

Or flash the whole package again

Do what tokenpoke said, look up playfuldroidz wiki site, the latest gapps is there. Save it to your computer, unzip it(or just open it up in winzip, and extract that one apk), copy it to your sdcard, and install it.

Oh, and market will work without gtalk, but maybe not gvoice. I uninstalled gtalk so long ago, and maps, downloaded maps again, and it was easy to install it as a user app, same with gmail. Had to do those steps, cause titanium backup has a nasty way of hanging when I changed system apps to user apps, the app was deleted, instead of changed. The backups, were still copys of system apps.

I have been looking for two weeks now for an app of some kind that can root my phone. I am an All Star Googler - No seriously, I am And this is the first time I have found ANYTHING about an app for rooting. Thank you for putting it out there and if there is a way to make this thread easier for people to find, I am all for it!

It depends on your current android version is 2.1 or 2.2.2

2.1 uses z4root, and 2.2.2 uses gingerbreak

z4root Z4 Root - Download

Gingerbreak-v1.20.apk Ginger Break.apk - Download

I am not sure if I am going about asking this the right way, if not I am sorry. I installed CM7 on my metro Ascend and Everything went great. I installed it exactly the same on my wifes ascend and it wont move past the red ascend boot screen. I used all the same files. Any help would be appricated.

Default Phone rom and ram memory!

Hi all!

I feel so dumb for not looking up forums like this sooner since I've had this phone for over a year now. I have been tired of how slow my phone worked with its 600MHz processor. I used a program called Unlock Root and after a little struggle actually getting the program (I had to Google it because the maker's website always had errors for the download link), and getting it to recognize my phone, I have been rooted.
I have been happily deleting away all the bloatware crap by using Root Explorer that would infuriate me with taking up the valuable majority of 167MB of phone storate space thanks to posts from people like Tokenpoke and Jazziette. I love Root Explorer. It likes to crash though when you want it to do extensive big things, and then it's hard to launch again sometimes!

I'm currently sitting at 113MB/167MB of Internal
My RAM is always hovering around 30-40MB free, of 178MB

My issues are those stats!

The Huawei website says these phones are supposed to come with FAR MORE memory capacities! It says 256MB RAM and 512MB Flash Memory for the M860! How did MetroPCS throttle my memory capacities to 178MB and 167MB respectively?

Is it possible to modify a file(s) using Root Explorer to "Unlock" them and get the full capacities back?

Thanks for any help!

Lemme play catch-up and see if I can help.

Cm7 boots non overclocked now right?

If not I believe there may be an issue with your wife's recovery.
(Insert ascend catchphrase) reflash and retry (end catchphrase)

If you have flashed other roms on her phone then recovery shouldn't be the issue.

If cm7 boots overclocked then try the lazy ascend cm7 file.

If the lazy version boots then your her phone is lazy.

I may think of more, may be back.

Edit*
Lol, forgot I default to last unread post.

So how y'all doin over here?

I don't ever recommend moving launchers to sd because a corruption will lock you out if you remove the stock launcher.

If anything move it to system (with a backup launcher in case it force closes and crashes out) and delete stock.

Haven't used my ascend since books was released but maybe you should look into the a2sd script.

hello, this is my first time posting here, and any help will be appreciated. i have a huawei ascend that i rooted, but i deleted canvas not knowing it was a launcher. now i can only get the phone to start up after a factory reset (every single time), and i cant seem to get it to connect to my computer.

anyway when i get it to start, i get a black screen. i still see the top pull-down bar, but i cant do anything. CWM is the blue font and idk how to get CWM with the green font. i have limited options and cant install zips from the menu.

idk why my computer wont read it, i installed the drivers but still no luck.
so i dont know how i can fix this. is there any way to get the different cwm that lets me install zips from SD?

You need a card reader for your card, and a backed up google account(best way to keep your phone settings), put the card into reader, download from computer needed files(your choice of roms, stock, cyanogenmod 7.2, cyanogenmod 6, and gapps, make sure gapps are exactly for whatever version of rom that you use, and have a google account , use cwm 3.0.0.5, the best version for this ascend). You will have to do some digging on the internet for some files, if your old version of cwm still works, unzip updated version of cwm to phone(it will be orange) , format system, data, cache( no sd!). unzip operating system rom, install, go back into cwm, unzip gapps for whatever rom that you installed, restart, run google setup, it should work. Install on. phone, not from computer.

I have a Metro Ascend with 2.2.2 upgrade. I cannot get Gingerbreak or Z4 to work. Z4 just flips back to apps page and GB just stays at the "...rooting.." message and never reboots or anything. I have enable debugging. Am I missing something or is there a better app I can use for this version to root? I am ultimately going to flash CM7 once I get the root access, which I assume is required according to the guide.

Hey csvking and welcome to Android Forums
No worries-I actually deleted everything on my Ascend via computer to the point where it would only boot to the Huawei screen. It now has CM7

I have downloaded gapps, cm7mod, rommanager, a4 and gingerbreak. I installed a4 and tried to root with no success. I d'/l gingerbreak and installed, tried to root with no success. I'm pretty sure i need to root b4 anything else, so that's where i'm stuck. I'll have time this evening (PST) and i have yahoo or skype or telephone, hehe. I have read that android's running 2.2.2 are a bit tricky.

I need some help, please. I'm updated to Icarus 1.1 which seemed to go off without a hitch except for the fact that now that Market is Play Store, when I click Market, I just get a blank, white screen. Please help! Could I manually restore Play Store by copying over Root Explorer??

Default help??

hi
ok- i've been a lurker around here and other areas for about a month now- learning all i can about rooting and flashing... rooting my phone went great- did everything i wanted it too... about 2 days ago i flashed cm7 and then started noticing the problem... it works amazingly anywhere else, but im currently staying in a hotel and as soon as i walk in the door- if i touch the phone for any reason it starts a continuous reboot loop this is really wierd and not good at all- any reason this would happen? it even works great at work so dunno what the problem is but i cant be without my phone for 9hrs every day
help??

Sorry for the short post. I had to put the baby down. I am running Android Version 2.3.4
CM7-Ascend-05212011 Build # GRJ22. I followed your instructions from

http://http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/320265-ultimate-ascend-customization-guide.html

When I enter the "check" command on the SETTING UP A2SD it fails. Im running an 8GB SD card, I formatted 1024 and 0. I went ahead and installed CM7, MMS, etc. I had to fix the wifi problem and so on. It works great, I love it, but the phone only has 167MB of space. It is not automatically saving my apps to partition. So I do not have any space. Every time I install an app, my phone says its running out of space and I have to move and delete stuff. Any leads?

The newer builds of CM7 had the A2SD baked in, you don't have to do anything to set it up besides the card partition. At least that's the way I remember it. It's been awhile.

System ROM 178 MB (79.8 MB free)
Internal 174MB (45.3 MB free)
SD card 6.91 GB (5.52 MB free)

So where is my 1024 partition that my apps are supposed to install to? I'm still having to manually transfer them to my SD card.

2)Install GAPPS (+METROFF for METRO PCS USERS ONLY,if applicable)

That should be it & you'll be on your way to enjoying CYANOGENMOD!Welcome to the neighborhood!

I doubt it if it didn't work....

You could start building it yourself or look for a working root and cwm. That would hep you help a dev port it.
